  • computer components can die from static. and i think i meant to comment on a diffrent vid sorry

  • question have you taken a netowrking class? if not spread the word that you should unplug your consel so you or your machine do not suffer from an electric shock

  • @asasas318s Do you take Primary school? eletric doesnt travle threw plastic

  • do you need a modded ps2?

  • Hello, thank you for the video. I wanted to ask, what are the dimensions of the slide tool, as I plan to make one myself and I would like to know the measurements needed. On the same subject, is it worth the time to make one myself or just buy one somewhere cheaply? Thanks in advance.

  • my ps2 doesn't have a screw on the bottom of the disk drive.

is there a way I can take out the cover without a screwdriver?

  • my game got stuck :(

  • Ive got both but OLD SCHOOL WINS!

  • Ive got the flip top lid but my disc gets all fucked up and stuff im just gonna use the old ps2 good thing i got one instead of the skinny ass one

  • Thank you, this was really helpful :)

  • lol im so gonna play final mix

  • Mine was so old so it came off on its own even though it had a screw lol.

  • I Never needed to Unscrew anything my ps2 Face thingy Was Ripped off By me when i first attempted Swamp Magic

  • where did you buy it

  • This is my first time doing this, but I really want to play KH: final mix that I had got in the mail today.

  • i dont have the screw

  • 2 people must love spending money

  • my ps2 is so old, the cover comes off on its own. how convenient

  • KH II Final Mix here i come!!!

  • thank you kind person.

  • thank you so much

  • This vid was really helpfull! but I do have one problem. After everyting is done, till i have to put my backup disk in (Dark Cloud), the console "auto-reboots" somehow. It suddenly goes to that screen when you can open your memorycard or choose to play the disk inside. This displays for like 2-3 seconds, and then, i get the frame "Insert a Playstation, or a Playstation 2 disc". Does anyone have some kind of solution? I think it's my game itself that is the non-working part. It's an ISO-made game

  • @TheNarutoCake I've had the red background as well. keep in mind that there is a difference between for instance america and europe in terms of playstation formats. america and japan use NTSC (japan even has a seperate format), and europe and asia and the rest use PAL. I used a usa swap magic, but needed a PAL. this is not my cup of tea, but at least i found the problem. try to find out if the discs or software you use are NTSC of PAL, and if it is the right type for your country

  • @skipPeRTh3Reaper Oh, thanks! Turns out that was my problem. Yes, the game is an NTSC, when my Ps2 is a PAL. Thanks a lot!! <3

  • i have the big ps2 silver,is swap magic is ok with this model? i have heard the silver version is a bit problematic

  • this looks el cheapo. in my day you took it down to the asian dude at the market he solders a chip onto it and BAM, you good to go

  • wonderful! just wonder! love it!!! and thanks! and great details!

  • nice vedio man, excellent, you have all my respects.

  • Wooohooo Now I can play Kingdom hearts re: chain of memories :D :D :D :D Well, that is if my parents will buy me a swap magic XD

  • @GamerGirlWithGlasses try a torrent

  • Comment removed

  • @arceus9000 that may be, but if you live in europe it's a bit more complicated

  • I can't get past the unscrewing of the drive cover; I can't find a screwdriver small enough! That, and the screw seems GLUED in to the screw hole!

  • thanks so much! this is the best tutorial i've found and now my japanese games work! XD you're awesome!

  • So if I wanted to play Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix would i use the same disc or would i have to get different ones? Just asking since you said it plays backup copy dvds.

  • My PS2 is extremely old; and so it is damaged and I can easily pull the disc tray out. Do I need to adjust the rod with a slide tool? Or is that just for ease of access?

  • @randomdude581 i had the same problem when I first started. Your actually not soposed to hook it on a rod. After taking apart my ps2 and doing alittle investigation, what you have to do is hook it on this little white bar inside of it. If it will help you at all I will make a video if you just send me a private mesage asking me to.

  • 2011 and i still want to play my ps2, and i bought it when it first came out.very useful and detailed information.I wouldnt try this without your tutorial.

  • My slide tool doesn't hook the rod when i put it in :(

  • Can you put the cover back on whenever you want?

  • Do you have to use the slide tool every time you want to play a Japanese import game?

  • @Brainboi321 Yes, but it gets really easy once you do it a couple times.

  • @searcher5123 No, you can't. If you press eject the ps2 restarts. So yeah, that's why it helps you.

  • i dont get this. how is this suppose to help u, like cant u just press the eject button?

  • same problem here as with FreakinEugene...Cant find the lock with the tool, maybe there are different versions of fat ps2 as my ps2 dosent even have the screw on the buttom of the drive. Can anyone help us out?

  • lol just figured out myself what was the problem. I just pushed the drive back in after I removed the front of the drive so the lock was already open and on the right.

  • MwA Ps3 Is STucK It Wonnt Go iin

  • grasias amigo ya aprendi tus consejos

  • i can't figure out how to use the silde tool! it's pissing me off, i did everything u did, and it seems that my ps2 is bulit differently i can't find the thing to make the thing locked! OMFG!!! SOMEONE HELP!

  • sorry which type of philips head screwdriver did you use

  • what screw driver did you use

  • At first I was a bit scared to buy these discs that require you to demolish your ps2 and poking inside it just to play a game xD

But now, I'm totally comfortable with it :) If I'll be careful, it's no problem ^^

Thank you for explaining so well ^^

  • @BiologiePassie lol sucks for you guys, that u have to do this everytime u put in a game, all i need to do is load mine like a normal game :D

  • wht does slide tool do?

  • i heard you only have to use the slide tool if its a backup DVD or a copied disc ? is this true because im considering buying this since i want to import kingdom hearts RE : chain of memories. which will be a original copy of it, will i have to use the slide tool ?

  • haha, shaft was back in its groove...

  • Great video, this was a big help. Thanks

  • vafanchiule

  • Do you use swap magic to use action replay max cheats on online gaming?

  • GRACIAS!!! Un video tutorial genial!... super bien explicado y muy clarito!....

THANKS! A great video tutorial! ... super well explained very clearly !....

  • wht do you do for slim ps2?

  • Do you need a slide tool for the slim ps2? Cause ik the slim ps2 can have swap magic used in it

  • it is more more more easy to use mod chip

  • @PheseantNetsuke Can you show me a good video link?

  • @PheseantNetsuke I disagree, personally. Mod chips are a hassle and require disassembling your PS2 to solder them. With this, all you have to do is remove the tray cover. Sure, learning to use the slide card may take a bit of practice, but it's not hard by any means.

  • where can iget a slide tool or tell me the dimensions

and of what material could be and from what material couldn't be

  • I downloaded a Ps2 game (2,49 GB) with µTorrent and extracted it. I now have an ISO file. I was able to play it on pcsx2 0.9.7. (Ps2 Emulator - makes it possible to play Ps2 games on your PC) But it runs at 15 fps, so I want to play it on my Ps2. So can I burn my ISO game on a DVD and play it my slim Ps2? And where can I get Swap Magic and how do I use Swap Magic on a slim Ps2? Please help meeeh!!

  • @ExhaustedPenguin

Yes!! Just burn the .iso & .bin images to a dvd! Then you can use swap magic to play it on your Ps2.

For the slim ps2 with a flap top (instead of a sliding tray), you don't need to use the slide tool. Only use the slide tool if you have a sliding tray. Swap magic works for all ps2s.

  • i hate the fat ps2 for only one purpose each single one i hadafter a while it had "disc read error" thing and now i have like 8th console so i got pised off and left the console unscrewed and all the flaps as well so i can adjust the leser lances :D

  • does this work on the 5000 series?

  • So the tray wont pull out if your tool doesnt have a hook?

  • dude, i...am...NEVER.....trying this EVER again....not only because it broke my first ps2 trying to fit that stupid swap card in, but i tried it again on my new ps2 and it almost fucking broke! it started making clicking noises when i turned the system on, and when i use the swap card, the disc tray wouldn't come out at first.....i'm just lucky it's okay now.....guess i on't be playingmy kh2 final mix :(

  • @badboyazza2009 some people don't know how to solder, or aren't good at it, or just don't want to pay someone 80 bucks to install one. personally, I don't have a steady hand, and I like saving money, so I chose the slide tool :P to each his own

  • kudos for a great tutorial! I just bought the magic swap W/ slide tool, and it came with no instructions! all the other youtube vids were blurry and only showed me how to operate the slide tool (plus they find a need to show off so they operate the slide tool really really fast). but you went nice and slow, and even explained how it worked, so thanks!. and nobody cares to explain how to properly remove the tray cover thingy either.

  • pause at 5:36 and look at his right hand

  • the front of the cd drive just slipped off of mine

  • soooo i lost my slide tool card.. anyone know where to get one in new zealand or australia? without buying the whole pack again..

  • @xBabyDassWassup make your own with an old credit card or something, thats what i done and it works perfect!

  • where do you get a screw driver that small?

  • is the disc u have dvd-RW or some else?

  • kann man auch gebrannte ps1 spiele dann spielen

  • what if im in NA and i get a JAP game.....which do i use

  • can i use a dvd+r to copy my games

  • I never had that screw on my fat PS2 disk cover, it was only clipped to it. Luckily I was able to get it off (Y)

  • @oOjeffoOo how did you do that? I cant' find a way to unclip mine... (is the SCPH-5004 PAL model)

  • @matteolima There are 2 clips on the side, as you may have noticed. It took me a while to find out, but they are on the side corners of the drive. If you manage to GENTLY bend them, the cover can be removed without breaking the clips. I've also read that heating the clips (Also gently, of course) can help in making the clips bend more easily without it breaking.

Just make sure to be gentle.

  • @oOjeffoOo i found them, damn if they're little :) i do not have aa screwdriver that small, is it possible to use a toothpick?

  • @matteolima Well, if the toothpick doesn't break when you're trying to bend the clips, then why not? Maybe a needle would be better.

  • Great guide, helped alot, I do have one question though,

I have a PAL PS2 and plan on using this method to play some NTSC games with it, but will I be able to save the games onto my PAL memory card?

  • is it the same with Version 3.6 ?

  • Hey man i was wondering if the swap magic can play ps1 games

  • which one do i get? i got usa fat ps2 and i want to play japan games... do i get magic swap usa or magic swap japan?

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • Nice i'm going to buy a ps2 but i search on internet but i can't find a cheap swap magic 3 cd where did you got those cd's?

  • what site can i buy the swap magic and slide tool from? and will the site be safe?

  • what dose it do

  • This is so much easier on a Slim model, considering it has a flip cover, you could just jam something in the lid switch.

  • very good tutorial ;) cheers mate ;)

  • naaah its too much for me.. i will just buy a frigin MCBoot card and it will spare me this "fun"

  • Does it have to be a game copy or the actual game?

  • THX <3 you I WIS I CUT FUCK YOU

  • Swap Magic not Swamp xD *

  • Dude, I LOVE YOU!!! That's FANTASTIC!!! Just 1 question: Are there a swamp magic PAL and a NTSC or is just Swamp magic that work for the two tipes? tanks!

  • Perfect guide, explained every bit with great detail.

    5/5

  • Thank you very much sir. Very helpful, unlike other youtube videos on the subject.

  • Thanks :P I wouldn't have got it working without this ^^

  • does swap magic 3 work with ps2 slim as well?

  • yes but u need a diferent method either a fliptop modshell or block the 3 lid sensors with tape and tissue

  • OMG thank you! I was doing this while I was watching... kinda hard first time but i did it ^_^

  • nice video dude thankkxx

  • Question time!

I am thinking about buying swapmagic too. But there are different kinds (ntsc and pal) do I buy a disc that matches my playstation or the game? I have a pal ps2, do I need a pal disc, or do I need a ntsc one since the game I want to play is ntsc?

    Please help me ^^"

  • Everytime I latch onto the rod with the slide tool it doesn't move to the right. What could I be doing wrong?

  • wait im confused. When you say back-up disk is that different than using the imported game you bought or is it like a different copy?

  • this is great.

  • Whoo! Thanks now I can play kingdom hearts 2 final mix! :D

  • @shadowsofshadow which one do i get? i got usa fat ps2 and i want to play japan games... do i get magic swap usa or magic swap japan?

  • thank you christ!!!!! Next stop, Kingdom Hearts2 Final mix!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @shadowsofshadow ha ha yeah only if my fat ps2 work i already bought the game

  • @shadowsofshadow dude, i bet like everybody came here for that, including me!

  • @justnotthatwhite33 lol yea i have it, but while the menus are in english, and the voices are too, the text inside the yellow bubbles when they talk and whne there's no audio is in japanese, i can't really progress in the game without knowing japanese :(

  • @shadowsofshadow dude thats totally what i bought swap magic for! XD haha KH FTW!

  • FINALLY!!! now i'll know how to do this when i import Naruto shippuden: Ultimate ninja 5!!! :D

  • That's just what I was going to do :D

  • Thank you so much for a well done and clear guide!

  • Thank you...finally.

  • ive tried this on the blue fat ps2 and i do everything you say and when i insert a copied game it says insert a playstation format cd

  • hey, nice video and very good guide.

Can you tell me the size of the (specific)screwdriver you used?I've one of the older fat ps2 like you and I've recieved my swapmagic but I couldnt figure out how to take the screw out yet. Will really appreciate it.

  • thanks dude, this video REALLY helped me out with the slide tool ^^ ty ty ty ty ty ty ty this tutorial rocks ;)

  • does the magic swap 3 play the ps1 games?

  • @soulfucker616 Thats what I'd like to know but no one answered your question so ill repost it

Can you play ps1 games with this? And i know you can use a normal ps1 game and swap, but if you dont have a ps1 game. And can you burn ps1 games on a dvd? (dvd's are cheaper than cd's

  • if you have an original ps1 game or ps2 game, cant you just put them in the tray instead of the "swap magic"?

  • You can leave the pin 'unlocked'. I got a ps2 from a friend along with swap magic. The drive wouldn't eject unless I tilted the ps2 forward. It wasn't until I tried the swap tool that I realised the pin was already in the 'unlock' position.

  • Very clear and helpful guide. Thank you =)

  • woow..great..this is a good tuturial...

  • hey dude i bought a swap magic 3 and bleach blade battlers 2 so do i do this stuff to get it to work?

  • With a plastic tool and 12Volts ?

  • it sizzled and electrocuted him via cable

  • so my buddy is getting me these for a gift, but i'm curious:

what if my game is an ACTUAL DVD game? will it work for the real games too? (i'm assuming the term backup copy to apply to burned self made pirate games...)

  • ummm... if it is an original disc then you don't use the Swap Magic, just boot it normally.

  • in the case its an import, that doesnt work without a mod of sorts sadly ^^'

hence where my question was being more directed toward...

me having NA system, and a JPN game in most cases (i've not had something imported from PAL yet....minus for ds or psp)

so yeah...region locking is the key here, does it surpass that? :)

  • @vampirebatlord4ever UNLESS you want to use cheats (CODER version)

  • One question, when asked to boot in Video Mode, do you choose it based on your PS2/TV region or based on the games region?

Lets say i'm doing this with PAL PS2 and I want to play KHFM (JP game), which video mode would I choose?

  • does your ps2 need a mod chip for swap magic?

  • can i just put in kh2 and swap it sonic speed with kh2fm+

  • No. You need to use the Slide Tool/ Swap Magic. Here's why. . . your PS2 reads Swap Magic, then the disc stops spinning. Now you can swap it for KH2FM+. That's why it works the way it does. It is humanly impossible to swap a disc fast enough to trick your PS2 without Swap Magic. And because Swap Magic stops spinning is the only reason we can use the Slide Tool to open it. I tried to put the Slide Tool in while a disc was spinning and. . . uggh! I don't want to talk about it!

  • dude if i get kh2 fm+ (already got for like 4 mounts) and do this will i ever be abel to play kh1 2 and com because i havent even beated com yet

    |:(

  • Absolutely! It doesn't affect normal American gameplay. Think of Swap Magic as a cheat device. The only difference is that your PS2 tray face is off (well, you could put it back on. I can't because I STUPIDLY broke mine!!). Just put in American disc as normal. Swap Magic doesn't affect that at all.

  • could i just use a regular DVD instead of a swap magic????

  • Did you figure out the answer to your question? Im wondering the same thing. ^^

  • yeah u cant ti doesnt work the same u need the swap magic lol

  • Damn. Well thanks for telling me. ^^

  • lol no problem

  • Also, there seems to be a 20% failure rate for games to boot, even if all the procedures are followed perfectly. This includes even if I use my Sony DVD -R's. Sometimes the PS2 is smart enough to realize it's not a valid PS2 disc, giving me the "red cloud screen." Other times, the game locks up on a black screen.

The only thing you can do is just keep trying until it works. Usually it works the first time, so no big deal.

I've noticed no differences between "normal boot" and "special boot."

  • I also wanted to say it seems some DVD's work better than others. I found Sony DVD -R's work best. Apparently, the Office Depot DVD's labeled as 8x don't seem as effective. The games work on them, but they load VEEERY slowly.

I know this because I tested a game on various DVD's and only the Sony DVD worked w/ optimal speed, so when you're choosing a DVD, don't go poor quality.

I was hoping someone could comment on this either by saying I'm right or wrong, so I know whether it's just me or not.

  • Very useful! The video I watched before was very unclear on how to use the tool. Great vid :] 5/5

  • Oh that's interesting. Because the slim PS2 already has a flip top, is Swap Magic the only thing necessary or do you need to make a hardware modification to it?

I'm also curious what you do with your PS2 CD front disc cover. I'm concerned about dust entering my PS2. Should I cover it with something, put the cover back on when I'm not playing, or what?

Thanks for all your help. I received my Swap Magic and slide tool recently and everything worked great.

  • The Slim PS2 has a flip top, yes, but when you press the button, it is the same as pressing the eject button on the fat one. It resets the laser. The flip-top that you buy for the Slim opens it without reseting the laser.

Oh, don't worry about covering you tray. I royally messed up mine and my mom and I had to open it up to fix the problem. I have NEVER seen so much dust in my LIFE. That was before I took the face off. So don't worry. It gets the same amount of dust either way.

  • You don't need to use a slide tool on the slim PS2 as it doesn't have a tray; it has a flip top.

  • One question I do have: Does the slide card method work on both the PS2 slim and fat PS2?

  • Thanks. I recieved so many emails asking how to use the slide tool. So i took my time and made a good quality video.

I am doing it very slow in the video; with practice you will be very quick at it and it will only take you about 10seconds to open/close the tray.

  • This is probably the best quality version I've seen demonstrating the Swap Magic... still camera, good view, clear voice, and you take us through step by step.

Thank you for this. I'll use this video when I do it myself.

  • I think I may have messed up my disk tray. It won't open when I press the button.... Is there any way to fix this?

  • Yes. Use the slide tool to open it. Mine does that alot. About every fifth time or so, it will do that. Just use the slide tool as normal to open and close it. That should fix the problem.

  • Thanks a ton dude, it helped me a ton :D

PS I love your accent ;-)
