I'm a former Publix employee and I've seen managers carry more than 5 carts. There are times when the foyer is low on carts or completely empty that some employees will carry more than 5 to get the job done faster and risk possible injury and counseling. On days before major holidays when the store is closed(Easter,Thanksgiving and Christmas),carts quickly disappear because of heavy customer traffic and you gotta keep the foyer full. Worse,many customers will not return the cart to its "home".
It would be nice if the cart handles had coin slots where the customer can insert a quarter to remove from a locked chain,then when the customer returns the cart to the chain,he/she can reclaim his/her quarter. This method will end loss and scattering of carts and cart duties. If warehouse-type retail outlets like Sam's Club and CostCo can do this,why can't Publix?
You guys are lucky, i just started at a publix in a very wealthy community and it feels like its run by Hitler him self. Not only would i never be able to get away with doing something like this because theres asshole over paid mangers constantly walking around all over barking out orders and not letting us rest even for s split second, and if i had gotten caught they wouldve fired me in an instant.
the store is in altamonte fl in front of the scc community college. plublix was my first job and i worked at that store for more than 3 yrs. i was the one running on the carts. fun times. i got paid for having slackin hahaha
I did 120 carts, moved it about 12 feet forward because lot was busy, don't know what this guy did, didn't look yet. funny trick too by the other guy.
We could never do this at walmart, always to busy >.>

Its called a chain. At my store #1305 we are not supposed to do them at all but its common place near or after closing.
