  • This is one of the absolute best versions of the Jekyll and Hyde story ever made. Goes right up there with the 1931 March version and the Hammer version which came out the same year as this one! Barrault is incredible!

  • Thank you so much for posting this little piece of a jekyll hyde flick, had you not posted it I may had never even known it existed.

This is kind of original.. especially the ending where it seems like the Jekyll persona is trapped inside of Hydes body.. talking so calmly.. unique reveal indeed, the reveal is always the best part of these movies.. Or the growing desperation of Jekyll.. or Hyde being bad-ass... what-ever! this was very enjoyable for me.

  • @MoonPhantom I'm very glad you enjoyed it! Part of the reason I'm doing this is to help share, not only well-known Jekyll and Hyde movies, but also obscure or hard-to-find ones, with people who might not otherwise know about or get to see them. This film is definitely unique, I agree, and I too enjoyed the way the animated and odd movements that Hyde makes contrast with his cool and calm speech. Thanks for leaving me a comment! I'm always happy to hear people's thoughts about these films.

I spend today just watching the movies posted on your blog I have not seen yet. such as "Edge of Sanity." (Jesus oO;)

I to have had a life long obsession and love for Jekyll and Hyde, always trying to track down what-ever I could find. So really, I just thank you so much!

I am doing video reviews for a site called Agonybooth, I am thinking one day just go through all Jekyll and Hyde movies I can get my hands on! I would love to do that!

So again! thank you so much! :D

  • @MoonPhantom Ah yes, Edge of Sanity is one of my favorites. It's creepy, intense & disturbing but incredibly awesome. :} And it's always great to hear from others who obsess over Jekyll and Hyde as much as I do!

I haven't heard of Agonybooth, but I'll check it out! For a while I've longed to do some film reviews on J&H films myself, but I just don't have the resources for it. If you do make reviews of them, let me know!! I'd love to see them, and I'll link to them on my blog. :-)

  • @albernom

Yeah.. I pretty much loved that movie to..

I'll be honest with you.. making internet videos is kind of hard... And.. don't hold your breath for my Jekyll and Hyde videos.. I know I will be doing them, but the list of projects I have is so freaking loooong, and right now I need to keep inside of the mainstream to collect interest.. But I promise, when I do them I'll contact you! maybe next years October, who knows.. maybe even sooner.. I'll keep you updated!

  • @MoonPhantom Yeah, I'm well aware of how difficult it is to make the sort of videos that internet reviewers do - I've done a bit of video editing here & there, and I know it takes lots of work to do even the things which look easy. That's partly why I'm not rushing to make video reviews myself.

And I completely understand - I also have a bunch of projects on my plate. But even if it takes you a year, I'd still love to see it! Do you have an idea which J&H movie(s) you'd want to review first?

  • @albernom

Well, it becomes easier with practise... a lot of practise.

I thought I would do the time-line thing so I'll start with the oldest one first.. I thought perhaps just making the first episode a three-way between the 1915 silent short, the 1921 Barrowman silent and. Doctor pryckle and Mr. Hyde.. I mean, Lol! I kind of love that movie, it needs to get in on the fun. oldest spoof ever.. and dude, Stan Laurel without Hardy.. is actually very funny in his own right! it's brilliant.

  • @MoonPhantom That would be quite the review! ^_^ I thought the 1921 film was rather long and dull when I first watched it, so I loved how Dr Pyckle and Mr Pride poked fun at it. I loved the way Stan Laurel portrayed both characters, but his Hyde was hilarious. The only bits of the 1921 film itself I thought were amusing were the cheesy writing and Gina's "seductive dancing". She had no skill at all - she just spun around and waved her arms about, like she was warding off flies. It made me laugh.

  • @albernom

Well, that's the silent era for you.. you should check out Douglas Fairbanks' sword fighting one day.. he's just randomly waving the sword! it looks hilarious! on the good side he was a brilliant acrobat and well, Jackie Chan seems to owe him a lot.

I don't know, I kind of like the 21 one.. having seen a lot of silent movies it's certainly not the worst one, and it's responsible for putting down a lot of the plot devices later becoming standard in Jekyll and hyde movies.

  • One of my favorite movies. Thanks for uploading this. Barrault was evil incarnate in the role.

  • Jean-Louis Barrault's acting as Opale is brilliant.

    thanks for uploading!
