can you use the heat from the sun to help keep the air in the balloon hot?

Sorry, that would be nice, but it is not possible - not for the moment
as the balloon needs about 90° Celsius as "working temperature"

You can't fly it just by the sun but it helps. A guy I know just bought a balloon with a black top half. The ex-owner he brought it off had to put so much less gas in when he was flying it in the summer, because the blackmaterial absorbed the heat.
