I always thought it was a reference to the young/little, Catholic Davey. Hense, David. Christians believe they are servants to "God". Plus, it makes sense with the organ at the end. And before anyone asks, this wasn't hopeful thinking-I'm antitheist/atheist, though I did grow up Catholic until the end of Catholic grade school. So perhaps I connected to that possible meaning. And, from what I know-he writes from only his own emotions. He avoids outside influence, at least he did for this album.

This is my favorite song of AFI's. I consider it my theme song... It fits me to too well of an extent. "For a change, I'll refrain from hiding all of me from you." it holds a much deeper meaning to me than it does to most people. Some get it though, which is refreshing... the ending is my favorite part though. "Come down, come down, cold resides in me. I'll flee to decemberunderground, as you exhale. i breathe in, and sink into, the waterunderground, and ill grow pale without you."

Sometimes I wonder if this song isn't referring to the character of David Talbot from Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles? Doesn't David seek an Interview with Lestat? I can't remember....but Lestat turns David--so there is another "Master and Servant" reference...also Lestat tries to kill himself in the Gobi Desert and I think he even buries himself under the sand.....it's been awhile since I read those books....now, I'm gonna have to go back and reread them......
