Does anyone know where I can get archived daily weather info for the early 1900's in Haverhill, MA without having to pay the absurd money some websites are asking for? I can't find anything before the 1940's.
i remember this storm.. i watched it from my back porch with my dad and sis, while it was at its strongest, a bolt of lightning landing right in front of us in our back yard with an extremely loud bang and being a fan of severe weather, i found it very cool as for my sis not so much lol
I don't know if that was a downburst for the whole 3.5min but, for about half a minute I was noticing wind characteristics of one. Seemed more like heavy rain and winds for the majority of the video, could just be that you can't see much detail when your not there yourself though.
lol... yeah, out here in Kansas City... we call this a typical thunderstorm. Our recent microburst took out 6000 trees (not an exaggerated #) in a 1 mile radius, 30"-40" diameter tunks... just, snapped off at the ground. I live just inside the western edge of that radius. Good times.
Im in SE MN and last night state wide we had 36 tornados. Down here in the SE we didnt have many but a powerful downburst wiped some homes and townhomes off the face of the planet.
Wow some of you actually grow up in neighborhoods like this one, huh. Must have been nice not to worry about being shot by the local crack dealer or robbed by the stcik-up kids from the rival town.
thats not rain in new england is it? wow your so lucky to catch rain on tape, its so rare that it rains here......woooooow. I could fart on that fence and it would have blown over
Wow. Those microbursts can be something. I have a video of one of those. How fast were the winds howling in that one? Microbursts it seems are a regular thing around here.
i would love to see a severe storm for real but where i live we dont get severe storms all we get is a little rain and thunder but thats it i live in halifax nova scotia but the worst storm ive ever seen was hurricane juan and there wasnt very much wind the winds only got up to about maybe 120mph thats why id like to go to like southern floirda or new orleans
Hey yo don't listin too them HATERS MAN I live right off summer St and I remember this storm, Was NOT the Mothers day floods BUT STILL SOME SHIT TOO REMEMBER
nice footage! we had something similar to that here in northwest Oregon on May 2
There was a line of severe thunderstorms that produced straight-line winds and some good sized hail. In Milwuakie, there was a 63 mph gust, and rains even caused street flooding. 30,000 people without power and numerous downed trees.
I thought it was a pretty good one there, we had one like that last year, in fact, usually about once or twice a year a real powerful line of storms will come through here in Ohio, again, usually nothing like OK or KS style stuff, but it still can get a bit scary at times.
Trees were down all around me! No, you didn't see any trees falling in front of my garage door, but the wires on the opposite side of my house were brought down by the falling tree, and there was a 3 foot diameter tree downed a few houses away. Definitely a prolonged downburst - I'm a meteorologist so there's no question here about what a downburst is - but the difference is that it's a NEW ENGLAND downburst. That's why there are such varying comments by region here. We pale in comparison.
@mcnoyes We had one of these in Missouri about 5 years ago, or what I believe was a microburst anyway. The odd part is that it lasted for 45 minutes. My grandpa, 80 years old, said he'd never seen anything like that before. I was always under the impression that microburst/downbursts were rather short duration. The winds were definitely straight-line and probably 80-85mph, sustained. Trashed the electrical infrastructure, tore down trees and made a general mess.
Sorry, that was just a thunderstorm. Doubt if any warnings even came out of that one. A downburst often produces damage similar to a tornado. Didn't see anythin remotely close to that. Downburst does not mean rain comes down from the sky. Its rain cooled air rapidly sinking (down) and out, leveling trees, etc. THATS A DOWNBURST!
Since that Vid is 4:06 long I suspect that there is some footage of an actual severe wind event.
I never saw any such event on the vid so I am just gussing that I must have blinked.
Heh..... I grew up in Oklahoma, the storm that you filmed wouldn't have stopped my Golf Game.
Sorry...but that was not much of a storm.
(pretty camera work is about the best I can say for your vid...at least you showed the ability to more or less aim and focus...a skill many people here at YT seem to lack)
New England "Downbursts" are no more than heavy rainfall apparently. I've seen thunderstorms worse than this.

A couple of years ago, a downburst passed over my house. After the storm, I discovered that many fences and trees were knocked down, including mine.

Lived in Haverhill for yrs. Moved away in April 2008. This summer's been an excessively stormy one.
Read about downbursts, seen the aftermaths, but've never seen raw footage like this.
