  • shivers...

  • This man will be remembered.

  • Heard Bon Iver today at starbucks... Right between some god awful Jazz and Norah Jones. I don't think I'm happy about this. I want to hate starbucks while I'm there.

BTW... I don't think his first two albums could go mainstream... I just think that a FEW songs would be appealing to mostly everyone, but that's mainly it.

  • @phospholipasec i love loathing starbucks when i'm there:)

  • I'm with you OceanandSilence, the rest should get a f#cking grip, enjoy the music and shut up. I've heard this all before, YOU'RE the one that feels let down when someone gets popular/successful, because they (THE ARTIST) no longer makes you feel cool and special. Get a life.

  • @moongr yes, it's a selfish notion, and something that has seeped into the music industry for a long time. now the notion is inundated, but there are still plenty of great artists out there that can and do rise above all the bullshit.

  • @OceanAndSilence douche

  • @yewwtube you got anything constructive, or you gonna give up?

  • @OceanAndSilence how can a "notion" be "inundated?"

  • @djmooreUSMC there are many mindsets that permeate the music industry, I would think that that question isn't even necessary.

  • its kinda effed up because when commercial music-listenin-ass-people get into bands that were like this and get all exploited and forget about what the music was about they get tuned in from their commercial-ass albums and work their way back into their original real-ass shit and in a way they appreciate the real music more than the fake but bon iver still hasnt gone that route and hope they never will but just thought i'd put in my drunken 2 cents

  • popularity changes the mindset of your music. the reason people love it so much because we can connect with it. Hes on the same level as the common man. Fame in fortune changes that in someone. If you disagree then your an idiot. Theres so many artists that have done that. Kayne West, ludachris, Insane Clown Posse.

  • Its quite important for an artist to create a mystery. Majority of songs people connect to is the same thing, love, loss, anger, reminiscence, etc. The things ALL people have or will experience, which means the song has ''everyone'' as a direct consumer. They're songs strictly made to make money. This is passionate, raw, secretive and most importantly REAL MUSIC dude.

  • i really hope he doesn't go "mainstream". I would hate to have bon iver on some shit like MTV. Some fake ass network that doesn't know the first thing about music. Bon Iver might be one of the best groups i've heard in years. I would never wanna see MTV turn bon iver into some bullshit bandwagon. This is true music

  • listen to justin vernon's latest venture: "volcano choir - unmap". you decide if he's heading towards mainstream music.

  • 123blah you are an idiot, just saying

  • no he's not

  • little screamo boy

  • i bet you girlfiends cardboard my man.

  • Ya to me theses guys are pretty mainstream and good for them. More people should here them.

  • I love Bon iver because he puts so much passion in his songs...that u know it comes straight from his heart and no bs in his lyrics

  • i heard this song on the radio and it instantly (in my mind) drifted me off into a happy slumber..Bon Ivor u r LEGEND...

  • i love the guy in the front's look around 3:31

  • the feeling that this song has given me...will not leave...and I am grateful.

  • Awesome!

  • I would love to see a music video made for this song,

it is so good, and true

  • a music video would ruin this.

this song is supposed to be in a live setting i would think. just because of the passion that puts into it.

  • I totally agree.

BON IVER please never ever go 'mainstream' mainstream. Imagine this song being ruined by being played nationwide alongside the trash that gets played on popular radio.

Or at least have a clear separation between your albums for popular and albums for real tunage!

Sorry If I got this all wrong and he is already mainstream mainstream! lol...and in that case I would be very sad :(

  • Haha, way to put it

  • so fucking arrogant saying he shouldnt go 'mainstream'

  • And you're pretty stupid for being blind to the fact that if he would lose the quality and magic he has about he work. So no my friend, you're the dumbass

  • You're an absolute moron if you think he should go mainstream

  • i dont care what he does i just think its so stupid to be like no i dont want him to earn more money and get radio play! i just want him to struggle as an artist so i myself can feel good about finding and artist that no one else knows, its not like his music would change either jeez

  • but you're forgetting that his music WOULD probably change and therefore not be as good and probably not as heartfelt

  • your right, he'd probably write about how famous he is and all the chicks he fucks, wouldnt he!

  • His music wouldn't change, but the experience of listening to it would.

It's different when you can connect to real fans who found that artist their own way instead of sharing that artist with phony people who just listen to it because it's on the radio, and what is 'hip' according to radio DJ's.

  • does being featured on myspace and having one of those myspace transmission EPs count as mainstream..

  • Hasn't Bon Iver already gotten quite mainstream? I don't know but that's how I always feel about people, maybe I'm wrong.

Bon Iver you are spectacularly awesome. [:

  • have you ever heard him on the radio? Mtv? Vh1....

  • what the fuck is "mainstream mainstream"? how could bon iver's music possibly be ruined by becoming more popular? popularity itself does not equate to the degradation of music. when a musician's reason for creating music is overruled by their desire for money, or the desire to create it only for other people's pleasure the quality will suffer, not the amount of listeners. for any serious artist, more exposure does not infer a lackluster effort.

  • @OceanAndSilence fuck up bud.. first half is well said.. second half is gay

  • @yewwtube what the fuck would you know?

  • @OceanAndSilence funniest opening line to a comment iv ever read in my life - im laughing so much right now hahaha

  • @OceanAndSilence that's right. if anything, we should be happy when people like good music.

  • I LOVE this SONG!!!!!

  • dear gott in himmel, i am in love. this song gives me chills. everytime.

  • thanks for sharing

  • You are a jackass.

  • You're right, this performance is the shit!

  • He is incredible - the voice is just one part of what is basically perfect music. I can't believe I missed this show. shiz

  • You see this guy is deeply moving because his voice can cut it. So melodic and heartfelt. Superficial so called hyped bands like The Fleet Foxes, or what ever they are called just dont have the talent nor the powerful voice to carry an audience threw...

  • bon iver and fleet foxes are my two greatest musical influences, dont diss fleet foxes when you dont even properly know what they're called. Fleet Foxes put on the best live performance i have ever seen in 2008, so moving, similar to this very song.

  • I agree, they are both amazing and quite similar musically, although lyrically they are much different. Love them both

  • Who here isn't a hipster?

  • atleast they believe in something. It's easy to judge and not stand

  • I love this song so much. Great video, thanks for sharing.

  • this guy is fucking incredible. beautiful beautiful song.

  • this is wonderful. thank you.

  • this is the best live version I've seen of this song. great musician at a great venue.

  • you should check out the Blogotheque Take-Away Show version, then. About as good, but more intimate

  • word. + not a hipster.

  • inCREDible

  • I really love this song a lot...

  • His Voice Just Drips With Emotion. Its Utterly Disarming. Im Into More Rock Based Music But His Music Just Has A Beauty To It. And Lenny Kravitz Go Fucking Shoot Yourself

  • Lol Capitalize Every Word Lol

  • i don't know if BON actually sees these or not, but if you do: (just in case), a made a video for this song, i love it! maybe we can make a real one one day? who knows? oh well, traviesoa is my youtube username, and i named my skinnylove video: tape 1.- CHEERS, Alfredo i hope you don't sue me or nothing, i just have a broken heart

  • Sounds nothing like Paul Simon (like someone said)... His falsetto is like nothing I have ever heard before and his deeper voice actually sounds like Lenny Kravitz on the album version of this song (I know I'm taking a risk with that cheesy comparison since I just dissed the Paul Simon guy :)). Anyway, he sounds great. That's what I'm trying to say.

  • he is, in fact, Lenny Kravitz

Did you not get the memo

  • Never heard anything like his voice? Take a listen to TV On The Radio - he sounds just like Tunde.

  • oh my god yes! you are all right, you've figured it out!

  • On this song, not necessarily on other songs though.

  • I totally agree. TV on the Radio all the way. That's the first thing I thought of when I heard him.

  • the first time i heard this song i thought of tvotr too. that's so funny cause i thought i was the only one.

  • i thought of tvotr too.

  • The voice is so similar to TVOTR, how can you not think of TVOTR

  • I should kill you for saying he sounds anything like lenny kravitz... even if you were right... which you arent... yes he does sound great... his voice is one of a kind...

  • ....also sounds a little like old David Bowie too when he sings intensely on this song

  • LENNY KRAVITZ!!!!???? Are you out of your mind?

There is only one punishment for that comparison, I'm revoking your ears and you can only have them back when you've shown you can use them responsibly.

  • It's the doubling of the vox that conjures familiarity with Kravitz - and Adrian Belew.

    What a song!

  • You gotta admit the falsetto to real voice (& dynamics)are similar to Kravitz - I hate being a critique as this dude/band is a one in a million stand alone brilliant talent

  • I dont have to admit that at all cos he doesnt but at least your being constructive and havent insulted my parentage or ethnicity for daring to disagree like most responders do. You know who he does sound very much like, Richard Manuel from the Band. I'd bet pounds to pennies that his copies of Music From Big Pink and The Band are worn down to the turntable.

  • The Band are freaking amazing!! And you are talking about the bass player from The Band right?? cause if you are I totally agree!

  • Rick Danko is the bassist but he sang as well. Richard Manuel played the piano and sang in a falsetto voice that sounds a lot like your man above. They are freaking amazing though.

  • tuned a half step down and then take the first string and tune all the way down to a C. that way it will sound the same as the second string, first fret, which is what you hold throughout many of the chords (C and Am). gives it a steel guitar sound with a ringing in the higher tones.

  • does anyone know how this is tuned?

  • GCCGCC

  • his voice reminds me of paul simon's.

    love it.

  • He has such a great voice, I love this song.

  • Been listening to him for a while, and eveyone who ive told about him just absolutely loves it! Great New Artist!

  • i heard him in concert there 2 days ago, it was awsome

he sang w/black mountain but he was way bettterrr

    <33333

  • album re released on jagjaguwar today bad ass album it's gonna be hard to follow up

  • love this song.

  • the tabs are on his myspace along with the lyrics

  • amazing. love that song. feel it with my heart

  • seems to me like Am And C

  • I need the tab too

  • Amazing: any album that can proffer the line: ''your love would have been safe with me'' deserves to be carried in the chests, heads and pockets of all that hear it.

  • Unbelieveable

  • Thanks for posting these. Bon Iver is incredible. I recently sent him live footage I recorded in Philadelphia. Hopefully he will give me the ok to post em. Check my page in the future!
