I really love the fact that JK Rowling made it so that Severus always hated Harry not just because of how Harry's father tormented him, but because Harry reminded him of Lily, which was only revealed until the end of the series.

Sad. Snape's story is one of the saddest of Harry Potter, mostly because here it's Lily who made the mistake of not giving that last chance because, in time, Lily could have grown to care for Snape like that.
