Just wondering, how dangerous would people who study other martial arts consider systema? Would you go against a systema fighter? How much of a challenge would it be?

interesting... i have a friend who enjoys systema, and he was actually the one who referred me to this. It seems pretty good, but i still think ninjutsu is better (that's the one i study)
interesting... i have a friend who enjoys systema, and he was actually the one who referred me to this. It seems pretty good, by i still think ninjutsu is better (that's the one i study)
I haven't studied Systema but I am planning to give it a go. But I see nothing fake, stupid or bad from this vid. We do escape drills all the time in JuJitsu class and I have always found that being relaxed and flowing helps a tonne.
Give me a break, please! Every Muay Thai fighter would rip them apart in split second. Relaxation in fight, my ass. This guy, Frank Arias was almost choked while sparring with an MMA practitioner. Systema principles didn't help him a lot. Even Aikido is better than this shit.
AIKIDO? Really . Only reason i don't like muay thai, is because if u just know muay thai alone for the most part, a good wrestlerwill take u down, because ur trained to followed through wth every punch and kick, that's the reason in UFC alot of the muay thai guys do a 180 if they miss a kick. But i never thought much of aikido... The'se moves on this systema stuff look like they'd do well against and average joe, but not a trained fighter

I had the opportunity to to train with Sonny Puzikas. He said that when he was in Spetsnaz that he did learn Systema. But not all Spetsnaz groups learn it. But then Sonny got sent to a Russian military base that didn't exist, met people who didn't exist and learned Systema that didn't exist. Basically there is the Systema that they teach to some people, and then there is the super scary stuff that no one will ever see on Youtube or learn even in Vladimir's school. It's still very secretive.
special units in russia train combat sambo, Systema is advertised as spetnatz training , but in reality special units in the russian army train combat sambo, and different self defence techniques. systema is good as i trained myself to keep ur body lose but it's not enough , systema is inspired from aikido , ninjutsu , sambo and other martial arts, and oneswho created it matched techniques and created systema.
you said false and you repeated what I have said. Most of the special units train combat sambo and special hand to hand combat techniques, I haven't said that no unit train systema, but the most common technique remains combat sambo and special hand to hand combats, why ur sorry if i haven't mentioned who is my teacher or if i liked it or not, I only said i do not only rely on one self defence style since i practice other combat techniques , and other martial arts.
That's a good point. I have met Vladimir and was very impressed with his skill. Keeping in mind that his level of training was above and beyond one can reproduce in your local strip mall gym/dojo. But some systema teachers (or self proclaimed teachers) are not that good at all. If you're goign to train in Systema, it's well worth the money to train with Vlad V. as much as possible.
it depends I follow classes with Kevin secours in montreal and he is a senior instructor under Vladimir Vasiliev. He's not a former spetsnaz but he' s the best martial art teacher I ever had
i study under a senior student of vlads who is also a former spetsnaz and i would agree if he is not approved by Vladimir Vasiliev or Mikhail Ryabko then he is questionable
I know not all spetsnaz units are or were trained in systema i am just pointing out that it is very hard for me to believe that u have friends who are ex-spetsnaz mainly because most people would lie to make there argument more valid.
There is NO spetsnaz system. I have friends who were in Spetsnaz and now reside in the United States. Some moved to Israel. All have fought in Afghanistan and one in Chechniya. ALL have had different martial arts background and only ONE has heard of Systema. Most have had boxing, grappling, combat sambo and Kyokunshinkay karate training. Not all Spetsnaz soldiers studied Systema.
I'm not sure how I can prove that to you. Without mentioning names, what proof can I give you. I think if you ask Vladimir Vasiliev himself, he would agree that NOT all Spetsnaz millitary studied systema. In fact, the majority have not. Many haven't even heard of Systema until fairly recently when VHS tapes, and marketing for Systema as self defense for the public started to spread in mid 1990s.
Dude what are you talking about? Do you know which Spetsnaz units Vasiliev, Raybko, or anyone claiming to be Spetsnaz (there are a bunch of them) are from? I can throw the question back to you. They were part of special forces. Some are men in their 50s, others are younger guys in late 30s. Do you in fact know that Stalin's body guards kept these secrets? When it comes to special forces, especially anything having to do with the Former Soviet Union NO ONE KNOWS ANYTHING FOR SURE.
I know about these units. BUt if you were to ask guys from OMON or GRU, or MVD etc. they would talk about combat sambo, some boxing, some karate, etc. Most never heard of Systema. Which branch train in these secret Stalin body guard tactics? I really don't know. There are many secrets. In one of M. Raybko seminars it was said that he just got home from "a war." What war? Where? Why?
Good point ,many spec.op forces are involved in very brief actions 24-48-72 h and these events "never" happened :) M.Ryabko is a real thing many guys from sp.op. are looking like ordinary people the only thing that separates them from the crowd is hart, training and motivation :)
Krav Maga only fully works in theory, really. You can't practice breaking someones neck while sparring. And as far as I know, Krav Maga is more like a 'hard' martial art rather than a soft one, like Systema. Correct me if I am wrong.
It would probably depend on the artist too. Krav Maga really incorporates a lot of different techniques from various martial arts much like Jeet Kune Do. Systema reminds me of Aikido or a combative version of it. I think it would take a longer time to master Systema as opposed to Krav Maga, but I could be wrong.
True. It's quite hard to apply in the beginning. Been doing it for a month now, so I wouldn't compare by my experience yet. Though, one of our older students (And somehow co-instructor) has excellent movement. Full contact didn't work - atleast I couldn't bring him down ;-)
It does. Systema is based on relaxation. Krav Maga, for instance, is way more brutal. It's steady, tense, and power. Systema in theory is about taking advantage of the situation. The special forces has never used Systema, rather they use a Kung Fu-influented system.
As long as it works. Systema does, however, not work for me. I like the principles for groundfighting, though.
I doubt Spetsnaz train Systema. Besides, everyone says something different. One says Spetsnaz GRU Hand To Hand, another says Systema, most says (Combat) Sambo.
I am sorry i think u just said that systema was rarely effective are u fucking crazy Joseph Stalins body guards were trained in systema and he was obsessed that people were going to kill him.
This is totally different this is more hand to hand and about stance form and breathing.... The Disarming of weapons and such are almost the same but Spetnaz is way more brutal and more controlling... Hope that helps
.systema is very effective under all combative conditions....It works because It goes back to natural body movement and flow. therefore it can adapt and over come any situation! ...Just to correct the above...... Frank arias is teaching systema and MMA (MMA based on the fundamental of systema)at York University in Toronto.
Demetry is our resident member of the Canadian Armed Forces and is currently intensely training as an Officer in Artillery. He tends to call things the way he sees them and sometimes with laser sighted precision. We tend to agree with him, considering his support system. That said, everyone there is an instructor, demonstrator and living in the moment of what needs to be said and done. LOL! It's a Systema thing....CHEERS!

I bet this guy had martial arts training WAY before he studied Systema. That includes grappling.

And the fact that all those examples you came up with are from Systema Instructors, I doubt it's the most reliable. What about the "normal" GRUs?
