I love Maverick! I recently brought Nandays into my home and I think they are wonderful and intelligent birds. I don't think they're as loud as people like to complain about. :)
my nanday just passed squally i had her for 15 years was the funniest bird it would allways crack me up this brings bac good memories i am currently looking for another one
Did you know that the USA tried to pass a law to euthanize all Nanday's last February in the USA? Claiming they were a threat to human health, and our survival? Without a Grandfather clause even. To confiscate any Nanday pet upon discovery.
Thank GOD for people like AFA - American Federation of Aviculture for fighting this law while I was unaware.
That's awful! We heard about the ones in Pennsylvania that they tried to pass to ban the nandays, but it didn't pass. Apparently the bill passed in Tennessee.
I can't believe our lawmakers are so ignorant to think our pets would get loose and pose a threat, and even if they did get loose, they wouldn't survive! They'd either starve to death, freeze, or get eaten by something.
Maverick is a huge blessing to us and we're so thankful for the AFA. :)
We really didn't teach him to talk. he just starting talking on his own, and mimicing us. Conures aren't typically the best talkers, and if you do try teach a bird to talk it can take a very long time. Sometimes years. My sun conure doesn't talk at all. and Maverick (the nanday) talks all the time.
You can actually potty train a bird. Both of ours are potty trained. Maverick (the one in the video) actually says MAVERICK! Go potty!! Just get into the habit of rewarding them with a treat when they go potty in their cage, and they will catch on very quickly. Also, waiting until they potty until you take them out works too. In the beginning, that takes a lot of patience, but it pays off. The birds caught on within a few weeks. They rarely have accidents outside of the cage anymore.
Depending on where you get the bird from, cost can vary. Check around with different breeders. He's a lot bigger than a love bird. He's about 14 inches from head to tail.
i have a nanday too! her name is Radar.

Such a sweat Nanday. I cant rate 5 stars again LOL. I can't believe that in 11,000+ views this bird only has 16 ratings? It should have 1,600. :-)

I noticed its easier to let them teach other.
Play some of the You Tube talking bird videos of your birds species for your bird and see how your little guy responds. I bet he/she gets excited.
That should triger some ideas for you.
Good luck

Whoa, he is sweet. How much did he cost? Is he about the size of a lovebird?
