Tough to say it does or doesn't exist. Although the marianas trench is clearly uninhabitable for such a creature. The temperature, the pressure, the lack of large prey, it just doesn't add up. I do like to think it's out there though.
The lochness lake had a world war 2 fighter plane pulled out of it recently and they put it to a battery and majority of the electronics worked, so they tested the water and found a high concerntration of a certain mineral that seemed to preserve things, fish in there are still partly jurassic so what if this certain mineral was also in that trench and ha kept this megalodon alive?
I think it's possible but the chances seem to be getting slimmer as there haven't been any reported sitings of a shark of this size. Then again, a shark this big could easily eat a boat without thinking twice....
Although it's not easy to tell what really lives down at the Mariana Trench, I think it's quite unlikely that a shark of this size, a predator and carnivore would survive merely on other organism that eat the waste and corpses of other fish. It may have evolved to not be dependent on oxygen anymore (remember this is waaay beyond the point of photosynthesis), but modern sharks don't go below 10,000 ft.
@smaakaker modern sharks don't go under 10,000 that we know of. remember there are a lot of things about sharks we don't know about, but i do agree with you about the food source in the trench.
@MrVestido It's possible, there isn't that much information on them and they have found sharks that are used to immense pressure, so its not to be ruled out.
Nobody knows what monstrous creatures live underwater, because humans have only explored maybe about 2% of all sea and lakes. Maybe someday we will find them. Be hopeful :D
dude, no shark is gonna be living down in the mariana trench. Unless it is drastically different from "common" sharks, which it really isn't aside from it's size, there's no way a shark could handle the water pressure. I'm not saying Megalodons are completely extinct, the ocean is vast, Megalodons could easily be chilling somewhere in the Gulf of Mexico and nobody may have noticed.
If megalodon still existed whales would have been found with scars from them and in some cases have broken teeth imbedded in there skins. This has never been observed reducing the likelyhood of megalodon existing to just about nil. It is as likely as coming across a T-Rex.
I really don't think it is alive right now,but I do think it died about 120 years ago. By the way Jaws doesn't have anything to do with this.Jaws was just a shark abuse that had an animated shark that was inspired by scary shark attacks.
I think if this creature was still alive it would be found in regular waters, not in a trench and it would be feeding on the gigantic whales we have in the ocean. I'm starting to think that JAWS isn't such a far off concept for a movie anymore.
Hmmm... Well maybe they should make a movie of the megalodon. Maybe it'll be Jaws IX far in the future. It should be titled "the beggining" because it could be one of Jaws's ancestors.
@RollProductions well, the film version of the book Meg is in pre-production, if they can get a script together that both the writer and producers like
@Freaksho9oh Lol, trust me it's way bigger then a great white. The hole idea behind the shark in Jaws is to be a ridiculously big shark, a great white is big but compared to a person the Jaws poster says it all. My friend has a framed theater poster of Jaws and its pretty much the size of a Sea King (a giant monster).
Jaws was a mako shark (also known as a great white) I believe. I recommend the movie. Is not that scary for modern audiences, but it's still a relevant suspense flick ^_^.
XD Everyone says that! Since I was a teenager, folks have said things like, "You talk like my mom!" etc. I'm 25. I suspect my speech does deviate from the norm...maybe because I like to experiment with language.
Speaking of which, if you want to know what I really sound like (or have any interest in learning Japanese), you should check out my channel. English isn't the only language that's fun to play with ^_^.
Yeah. I made this so that if you didn't know what a megalodon was, you'll know before you see the actual ride. For example, if one guy watched the ride before the slideshow, he could possibly comment like this.."That was fun, I especially liked that you named it after a turtle"... We don't want that now do we?
Tough to say it does or doesn't exist. Although the marianas trench is clearly uninhabitable for such a creature. The temperature, the pressure, the lack of large prey, it just doesn't add up. I do like to think it's out there though.
