  • How do you like this engine. I'm thinking of making one.

  • @aaronlittell It's a loud and care free runner with a big flame; a winner!

  • Please check the comment provided with the video for more info!

  • Do you have blueprints you'd be willing to share? Ive been looking for some that are this style.

  • I've just moved so I'm not able to make detailed pictures at the moment, but as soon as I have unpacked I will send them to you. Greetings, Jeroen

  • Very elegant execution and modification of Jan's design. I am fascinated by your quick connect/disconnect mechanism for the connecting rod and valve push rod. Can you provide a more detailed description of how your quick connect/disconnect works?

  • (I forgot the introduction)

Hi! I have a problem. I made exactly the Jan Riders motor (similar that your video except the flywheel) and not work.

  • I have seen that the valve opens before that the piston hit them (in defect, the residual air pushes the valve, but is like bouncing and you can see a groove an instant after the piston back off and not when the piston come and breathe)

I made the cylinder with no magnetic stainless steel.

I enlarge the flywheel to see if it worked, but not.

    know what can happen?

    Thanks for your time!

  • Lol, fap sounds?

Really nice by the way! :o

  • why was this on my reccomended vidoes ? :L

  • The timing is done automatically by the pressure change. Check the website of the designer (Jan Ridders) for an explanation and animation.

  • what is the timing? is it 90 degrees like a car, or different?

  • exelente gracias x explicar

  • truly nice work !

  • Fart engine...

  • check youtube.com/watch?v=IyrWRBoC-2c to see a boxer configuration!

  • How about a twin to get better use of the flame..seems less complex than a conventional stirling engine.

    or even solar????

  • hello, I did the design in a 3D program and there are some parts that do not engage.

For example, the large hole in the connecting rod and crankshaft elbow have different sizes. Is that correct? or did the design wrong?

  • @Neodymio Hello, keep in mind that there is a ballbearing placed inside the large hole in the connecting rod. Perhaps this is overlooked.

  • Love your engine. How do you achieve your perfect fit? On my stirlings, I drill, then bore, then hone with a brake hone. I have also lapped on smaller sizes. If you lap, what kind of lap. Then do you just polish your piston & valve to fit the bore? I understand the need for perfect roundness & cylindricalness.

  • You are right, the fit is important and has about 0.02mm of play.

Check the webpage linked in the video description on the right.

Here you will find all the anwsers of how to achieve the fit, and it may also help you to get your not yet running vacuum engine from 1920 to run!

  • Thanks for the information. I am still having trouble but have a few things to try at least.

  • Could I ask another question? Did you pre-heat the cylinder on the run in the video or does it start like that from cold?

It seems to run faster than Jan's and noticed he's put it on his site too. Very well done.

  • In the video the engine is warm from a previous run, about 30 degrees Celcius. it will run from cold, but only for two minutes or so. After this the sucked-in condensated air is causing to much friction for the engine to keep running. After cleaning, the engine will than run for the capacity of the fuel tank. (approx. 12 minutes)

  • The speed is between 450 and 500 rpm.

  • Thanks for the advice. I think I may need a better fit. Ah, I wondered if it was you blowing it out. Thanks again. Nick

  • Lovely Vacuum Engine. I have just built one to the same design but again with a few modifications here and there. I think everything is made well enough but it won't show any signs of life! A lot of the time when I'm trying to start it, the flame blows out like it did at the end of your video. The flame seems to act the same as it does in yours but the engine won't seem to give a power stroke! Could I ask you how long the stroke is on your valve? Is there much overlap with the port? Many thanks.

  • Make sure the fit of the piston and valve is precise. Without the flame and a cold engine, the closed valve must open immediately after moving the piston towards the valve. Check the "troubleshoot" video on the site of Jan Ridders, using the link on the right. My flame is blown out not by the engine but by me to demonstrate the slowing down and speeding up after re-lighting.
