Other elephants that have been moved from their surrounding at an elderly age have gotten depressed, are scared, and die lonely. there is comfort in familiarity for animals. By the way, if you hang around the zoo long enough you can find other things that appear depressing when matched with the absolutely depressing music that you play in this video. Once I saw a monkey that looked depressed - I should have filmed that and made up some stories about a depressed monkey at a zoo.

Oh and the breathing issue is not just stress its a dental issue (the tooth has fell out now and the vet's beleive her nasal airway should see an improvement). the lady that runs the sactuary has an elephant that used to rollerskate an dhse used to be in teh circus !!! and they poor animals do nto have any freeedom her elephant socilizes with the dog because it cantget alogn with teh other sher has an elephant with a chain on its ankle bc she cant get it off and i just spent the last couple days and ight and i got to vistit lucy in her cage and shes perfectly happy and shes soo attches to her zoo keepers it woukd be crule to move her

Having lived in Alberta I know that the winter weather in Edmonton isn't fit for humans let alone elephants who are from the warmth of Africa and India.
I hope that the Zoo will take its commitment to the animals seriously and finally do the right thing.

She is not you dumb ass. Samantha was getting restless for breeding and was actually causing Lucy more pain and annoyances but always beating on her. She is more spoiled by getting walks. She is a solitary Elephant who enjoys the company of humans more so then other elephants. The valley zoo just stepped up to take care of this animal when it couldn't be reintroduced to the wild and it was humanized by someone else.
Samantha was behaving the way she was, ie: biting Lucy because she was frightened.
At the sanctuary in Tennessee Lucy will have room to roam as far as she wants on her own timetable. You need to do your research because the walks that Lucy goes on don't meet her needs.
You must be a zookeeper because only they would believe that Lucy prefers people to other elephants. The bottom line is how much money the zoo can make from Lucy, period.
It is so sad that Lucy is kept against her will, and to have her whole life in what is basically a jail cell compared to animal sanctuaries with acres & acres of land for her to roam and be with friends is just a shame.
I hope the people of Edmonton realize that it just isn't worth it just to see her in her captivity.

She was taken away from her natural habitat very young as her parents were killed in a cull. Would it of been better to let her die as a baby or give her a chance of any kind. Not all animals get along with their own kind. Seeing as Lucy didn't have other elephant contact when she was young (as her parents were murdered) she is less accustomed to be comfortable with other Elephants. The keepers she has are her herd. She is very loved and loves her life.

Just to be clear, all of my information has come from reliable organizations and sources, and I'm just stating her current status. Fact is that she is still alone and neglected of her social needs.

Samantha wasn't sent to Tennessee, she was sent to another zoo in North Carolina for breeding.
Lucy is now banging her head against the bars in her cage.
