I had two of these birds a few yrs ago, and they're so funny... At the first moment they love each other and in the second they're fighting :) ...But their voice are sometimes annoying :)
Too funny.... Parakeets are cute lil birds. I think they both appear to be female but I dunno. The Ceres above their bills are very light colored, but it was really hard to tell what color was what by the lighting. Hope they are getting along better! They looked like Ozzy n Harriet lol!
Part three: Another few years went by, and I moved out and took the one on the left with me. Sadly, I don't have room for another budgie, and she does'nt seem happy here, so in a few days she is moving out and into a home were a male budgie is waiting for her. It's sad for me, but I think it'll be great for her. :)
Part two: They didn't live in the same cage, but the cages stood next to each other so they could talk, and now and then we let them out together to play. Usually they were out one at a time to not stress them, but sometimes it seem'd(?) they had no problem with playing together. If there were a male budgie there too it might would have become a problem, but they grew into liking each other, and I have some truly precious photage of them togheter.
@aspie4live Part one: THANK YOU! :D Finally! :D And you're absolutely right. Budgies should be sold in pairs with one male and one female. This video is from 2008, so things have changed. The story with these two is that my younger sister got the one on the right, and some years later I was "babysitting" the one on the left, and they didn't want her back, so she stayed with me. That's why they are two girls.
@CarolineLuvsUx Birds can apparently hiss without imitating. I've heard a goose hiss, weirdest thing I've heard coming from a birds beak. I don't know about every bird, but at least geese can.
One seems to have a blue nose, but I think, it's a girl anyway. Some female bugies get blue noses, when they are not in the mood of laying eggs and stuff - you know what I mean ;)
If she was male, the mose would be more dark-blue.
But you know, it's not good to have only females. Even though, it might be kind of risky, you should get at least one male budgie. Two females alone might become very aggressive to each other.
heyy guyss i know no one reallly reads these but i have a cute little bird who does the most unexpected things check out some of my videos just click on my name it would only take you a couple of minutes to watch and if you cant a nice thumbs up would be nice thanx!!!!! <3
Pyxi901 your a nob it a boy for sure did u see the eggs come out i doubt u did also a budgie wont just lay eggs unless the female has been mated they arent chickens
@TheJamesstokes No, we didn't see them come out, but there's no doubt they were there on the x-ray. I have photos of her with brown nose. And you just proved you know nothing about budgies. ;) (Yes, they do lay eggs without beeing mated, just not as frequent as chickens.)
@TheJamesstokes Lol, I suggest you come here and check for yourself. ;) No matter how many YouTubers claim it's a boy; it's still a girl. Boys have bright blue noses, not soft like this one. The only time boys have soft blue noses is when they are babies, and this is not a baby. That's that and the end. :)
Same relationship as my two budgies. Except mine was a male/female. The male was the spaced out kind while the female was smart and hot tempered. She was always bitching at him, then she'd turn around and shower him with affection. Poor boy was so confused. xDDD
@HeatherKS123@HeatherKS123 As I've previously answered others here; her cere changes. She is close to 9 years old, so yes, we do know her gender. She has also recently been having trouble with trying to lay eggs that got stuck, but luckily she's ok now. :) So again, it's not as simple as blue is boy and brown is girl.
thats creepy the blue one looks exactly like mine and he acts just like this. he always kissy kissy with my other budgie but the other one is a female and she is yellowish green....so yea she hates him back xD
@Mary123sarah123 Maybe because its alone, i had 2 budgies, A female and a male but the male budgie was killed by a 4 year old that my sisters was sappose to be responsible of but wasnt watching the boy fully so he stabbed the bored and it dies sadly :'( his name was mikey and now that he is gone missy {female budgie} is quit unless i play one of these videos with them tweeting, so if you get another companion for it maybe it will loosen up a bit because when mines were together they were LOUD!!
my 3 budgies do that but i have a yellow parakeet a female one and a green tailed parakeet a male so they love each other and the third one is a grey parakeet a male
awww so fluffy! I had one of those blue parrotkeets, and a greenish yellowish one. But sadly they both flew away because my dad opened the window for it to fly away ON PURPOSE. Reason: to get rid of them for his "gf" that he was cheating with on my mom...;c I loved them!
Aww. my budgies do the same but one's a male and the other one is a female and I still don't know why the yellow budgie hates my green parakeet but at the same time wants to play with him. ^_^
my cousins make toys 4 there birds out of old baby toys :3 and they look certain things up first so they do give anything bad to the birds :3 there really good pet owners!
Ummm...Is one girl and one boy...Look at the peek... The white one have blue and the other one have pink. So the pink one is a girl and the blue one is a boy.
@RoxasLoverForEver Nope, they are both girls. :) The cere at the mauve one (the darkest) changes now and then and can be very brown, but mostly it's blue-ish. I guess it's because she doesn't have a male budgie by her side, but she seem happy nevertheless. :) When she flirts with either humans or her friend seen in this video, her cere turns more brown. She's turning eight pretty soon; I think we would know her gender by now.. ;)
@rizzzzzel Yes, blue cere means it's a male, but males also (usually) have a bright blue cere. This ones is like i said; blueish, not bright blue. And it can turn brown too, which it doesn't do on males. It's still a girl. ;)
@i3azab Generally males after puberty are easy to spot, while females sometimes can be tricky. (once they are 1-2 years though it's pretty easy, mannerisms will give it away as well). I've yet to see a Male's mere after 6+ months, not be a deep rich blue of some shade. On the other hand, I've seen numerous shades of pink, brown, and even tinges of blue mixed in with brown, on females.
Love budgies, they are very intelligent for such a small creature.
@iTeeT1 You can tell whether it's a girl or a boy by the color of the thing on/above the beak, called cere. If it's blue, it is a boy, and if it's brown, it's a girl. It can change at girls; when they're not in a breeding mood they have blue-ish cere, but when they get stimulated by another budgie (usually of the opposite sex) it turns brown. :)
It's _can_ be a lot more complicated than that, but unless you breed budgies (I don't) that's really all you need to know. :)
OMG this happened with my old bird when we got him a friend hes like GET THIS THING AWAY FROM ME and the other one looked up to him so much it was cute. XD
The bird can still fly with clipped wings for exercise but can't sustain it for long periods. So its really up to the owner. My budgie hasn't been clipped but my last one was. Both happy both fly.
I'm not here for the PETA debate (some folks luckily have never seen an example of an abused animal & clipping wings is FAR from abuse & does NOT make them aggressive *face/palm) but want to commend you for having a wonderful setup with lots of toys & the dual cage setup. Parakeets/budgies are funny little creatures, sort of the clown in the bird world, & while males are the best known talkers, females can be the most affectionate. Thanks for giving the ladies a wonderful home.
Cooking: Lock the bird in its cage when you are cooking to prevent it from getting hurt. Same goes for candlelight. It's really just common sense.
Yes, there is always a chance that they can get lost, but that goes for any other kind of pet out there too, for example dogs, cats, bunnys, reptiles, and so on. But we don't cut theirs legs off or tie up a snake to prevent them from escaping, do we? ;)
That's true, about their cage. Every time I let my parakeets out to fly (And my cat in my room xD) after about fifteen minutes they always fly back to the top of the cage and wait for me to open it. ...Actually, Mo does, and Zetsu just follows him. :D
IMO its dangerous not to clip the birds wings if they're in the house.
Birds will slam into mirrors and closed windows, they can drown in toilets or fly into hot food cooking on the stove, and there's always the chance they'll fly away and get lost, completely unprepared to survive on their own in the outdoors.
Hi! Their wings are not clipped. (I consider that as animal cruelty and hope that people will stop doing it.)
Sometimes they fly around everywhere, and sometimes they just wander around at the cages or other places like the TV or sofa (which is forbidden areas, but they don't care).
To make your birds more calm you might want to try to make the outside of the cage more interesting with ropes (to sit on; check the video) and toys. :)
I know! Even if my chip does not let me handle him I still love him! I think you don't need to force your birds to lose there flight to make them like you...i know he loves me sense every time i talk to him he chaters and chirps happily! He pretty much owns my room so i keep his cage open 24 hours lol. If you wish to see him go to Boogie down chip. You have to very beautiful birds!
I don't recommend clipping wings, thats animal cruelty. What you accomplish by doing that is creating an unhealthy and scared bird because it doesn't get tame by free will, you _force_ it to be tame. A forced tame bird is _not_ a healthy bird.
------------------------------------------------
I thought about deleting billykash9's comment, but I like to make more attention around the subject, so I let the comment stay with a request: Do NOT clip birds wings!
Animal Cruelty is an act towards an animal which negatively affects its health or mental well being.
Yes, it is animal cruelty. Imagine you had an instinct in you to fly. Wouldn't it be frustrating, attempting to, and then not having the mental capacity to understand why it didn't work?
If you get birds you have to offer them a safe, fun and comfortable home, which isn't easy done in 10 minutes. Many can't understand that, so they think it's easier to clip the birds wings, then they don't have to worry anymore.
That really shows how lazy and posessed of beeing in control people can be.
If you think it's to much job to keep a bird and wanna protect your expensive furniture, your nice wallpapers and matching curtains you maybe should get a hamster or something ;)
ps. sry for my bad english, but i think you get my point
If you are clipping birds wings you are doing it for YOUR own good and safety, not for the bird. What good does it for a flying creature when it can't fly?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
i would have to say it is animal cruelty if you clip their wings. not only are you making them flightless it also makes them more aggresive as they know they can't fly
dude thats liek mine i have gray budgie and a blue one but they liek each others but they all ways stay away from each others in teh cage and when oen of them trys to come up next to one of them they get mad the blue one bites him but the gray one graws at her lol

@RVDfanNumber1 What doesn't make sense? :)

But we don't cut theirs legs off or tie up a snake to prevent them from escaping, do we? ;)

If that is serious arguments to clip the wings of a bird, you should not have birds.
A bird needs it cage; it is a safety-sone and a place to relax. Unless you want poop everywere you don't have it living loose around the house.
Windows and mirrors: Stick a few post-its' on them to distract the bird from slamming into them.
Toilet: If you have a pet you don't leave the toilet open.
To be continued..
Pyxi901 2 years ago
That's true, about their cage. Every time I let my parakeets out to fly (And my cat in my room xD) after about fifteen minutes they always fly back to the top of the cage and wait for me to open it. ...Actually, Mo does, and Zetsu just follows him. :D
RisaToranaga 2 years ago
IMO its dangerous not to clip the birds wings if they're in the house.
Birds will slam into mirrors and closed windows, they can drown in toilets or fly into hot food cooking on the stove, and there's always the chance they'll fly away and get lost, completely unprepared to survive on their own in the outdoors.
Clipped feathers grow back quickly anyway.

i like the cage. Are their wings clipped? if not, how did u get them to be so still? my birds would fly around everywhere like crazy
rheadhar 2 years ago

You have to very beautiful birds!
mabgamer6407 2 years ago
start by clipping thare wings to start.
after a while thay get to know the top of the cage is a safe zone. thats what I had to do.
good luck XD

I don't recommend clipping wings, thats animal cruelty. What you accomplish by doing that is creating an unhealthy and scared bird because it doesn't get tame by free will, you _force_ it to be tame. A forced tame bird is _not_ a healthy bird.
------------------------------------------------
I thought about deleting billykash9's comment, but I like to make more attention around the subject, so I let the comment stay with a request: Do NOT clip birds wings!
Pyxi901 2 years ago
Its not animal cruelty but i don't do it. Nor would i recommend it. But it is definitely NOT animal cruelty.
rcman123 2 years ago
Animal Cruelty is an act towards an animal which negatively affects its health or mental well being.
Yes, it is animal cruelty. Imagine you had an instinct in you to fly. Wouldn't it be frustrating, attempting to, and then not having the mental capacity to understand why it didn't work?
Wraith606 2 years ago
shut up you fucking hippy.
"animal cruelty"? really? its for their own good and safety you fucking mongoloid.
CowieMooCowxo87 2 years ago
@CowieMooCowxo87
Pyxi901 is right.

@CowieMooCowxo87
If you are clipping birds wings you are doing it for YOUR own good and safety, not for the bird. What good does it for a flying creature when it can't fly?
Pyxi901 1 year ago
no, actually its also good for the bird. wen u dont clip there wings they have a chance of running into the wall or a window. =)

i would have to say it is animal cruelty if you clip their wings. not only are you making them flightless it also makes them more aggresive as they know they can't fly

@KiwiAng31,if your smart you will know that they can grow back their wings, smart one.
