Sweden is not a "socialist" country. It is a market oriented economy with high levels of taxation to support a welfare state, providing for its citizens minimum standards for a tolerable life. This seems to work well, as evidenced by human development indices and quality of life. So what if the cost of living is higher in Scandinavia than the USA, the price they pay with their freedoms makes up for it. I have some good friends in Sweden, i've visited and i'm very familiar with the place. They have to pay half of their income in taxes, jump through loops to get drivers licenses, can't own guns (or carry knives even), and don't get me started on the employment fiasco.
Actually, a quick Google search seems to indicate that it IS legal to own a gun in Sweden, although it appears to be considerably harder to get a license for one than in the States.
As for the taxes, I don't see how they aren't a fair-trade for the standard-of-living the country affords.

Given the effects of this demographic shift, it had to rescue its economy in the 1990s, and cut back on its social expenditures. Sweden is not a "socialist" country. It is a market oriented economy with high levels of taxation to support a welfare state, providing for its citizens minimum standards for a tolerable life. This seems to work well, as evidenced by human development indices and quality of life. Sweden can thank its historically intelligent, capable and homogeneous proto-Germanic ethnic supermajority for its capacity to do this given its high mean IQ.

So what if the cost of living is higher in Scandinavia than the USA, the price they pay with their freedoms makes up for it. I have some good friends in Sweden, i've visited and i'm very familiar with the place. They have to pay half of their income in taxes, jump through loops to get drivers licenses, can't own guns (or carry knives even), and don't get me started on the employment fiasco.

It's "standard of living", not "cost of living".
Actually, a quick Google search seems to indicate that it IS legal to own a gun in Sweden, although it appears to be considerably harder to get a license for one than in the States.
As for the taxes, I don't see how they aren't a fair-trade for the standard-of-living the country affords.
If somebody can't drive well, they shouldn't get a driver's license. While the Swedes seem to be a tad bit extreme, I understand the reasoning.

No, Norway is not part of the EU, but neither is the United States. Any many of the political and economic policies of Norway parallel those of the EU. Oil does contribute to the wealth of Norway, but Russia has much more oil, and it brings little comfort to the poorer classes. And The US is not lacking in natural resources. Oil is a finite resource, and the Norwegians have shaped a fairer society expected to outlive their oil reserves.

Before the late 1930s, US courts allowed industries to abuse workers in almost any manner they desired. Some, like Beck, would restore the rights of industry to physically, sexually, and economical abuse workers. Thankfully, such people are uncommon

There are no enforcement mechanisms to the healthcare "mandates." If you decline to take part in any healthcare system, the cost of your heathcare will fall on other taxpayers just as it does now. Nothing in the healthcare bill places any restrictions on what you can or can not eat. You can find the healthcare bill yourself online at congress(dot)org.
