  • Hold the hook like a pencil the most important thing?? Guess I've been doing it wrong the past 20 years.

It is correct to hold your hook any way that is comfortable to you.

  • Everyone !!! The most important thing in crocheting is to hold crochet needle as a PENCIL in your hand!!!

  • @Amandaz2011

The most important thing is to understand that WHAT WORKS FOR YOU MIGHT NOT WORK FOR ME !!! I am a beginner so I am not qualified to give advice , but I can tell you that Ive tried a few different ways and settled on the one that I am most comfortable with .

  • I wanted to see how a pro holds the yarn for correct tension. BUT You wrapped your hand so fast that even when I pause I can't get it. I've been told that I'm holding my yarn wrong for years so I guess I will just keep doing it that way

  • I got it the first time through!!! You rock!

  • Does anyone know what yarn she is using?

  • Lies!Lies! some (many) procest can start with a circle without the chain 1st!

it was weird for me to see a woman with big nails and still crocheting i had nails(long)and i broke them when i was crocheting

  • @MyCrochetingSchool Maybe your nails were weak,it's good to paint them :P

  • Great video, very good instruction:).

  • @abbey111able Umm do we caree!

  • @abbey111able Well, there are people in the world that never learned how to do it. Live with it, little one. :)

  • @abbey111able good for you, no one cares

  • @abbey111able I can crochet without looking, and I am a penguin.... this makes me twice as awesome.

  • @abbey111able why are you looking up beginer videos for crocheting videos if you already know how?

  • this is great!i did it---!!!!thanx a lot!

  • I saw this video a while back and saved it. I now have what I need to learn. My question is why do you roll the yarn into a ball before using it. And thank you so much for the how to videos

  • People, please ~ if you are looking for TRUE BEGINNER crochet instructions, step by step, PLEASE look at the videos of Aunt Esther on YouTube. Filmed by her neice, they are easy to follow and will get you up and running with single and double crochet stitches in no time. After numerous attempts, found Aunt Esther and was able 2 hours later to follow Aunt Esther's advice and then to even advance to Tunisian/Afghan stitch. Amazing difference from all other videos I tried...happy crocheting! = )

  • Uh, to much text

  • how is this not helpful?? its so easy

  • Dont worry NumberOneSas. In the beginning pulling through the loop is a tough one.Just remember not to hold the string to tight.

  • Uhh...The captions cover the whole screen! How is anyone supposed to see??

  • i cant see because of the captions real helpful! :(

  • I can't do it :c

  • i know how to crochet without the needle thing

  • not helpful at all

  • This video is really helpful, which is really surprising for 'expert village' cause normally their videos are not very helpful at all!

Hoping all it takes is some practice to get right cause I've just recently started to try and teach myself and I'm rubbish!!! Will keep at it though! It will NOT beat me!!!

  • u r one confusing lady!

  • super!

  • ya i must be doing something wrong because i started thinking i was doing this correctly until i looked at the giant knot i had made out of my yarn stuff :(

  • She didn't explain the slip knot very well but the rest she did!!

  • i cannot get this! my mom said she taught herself when she was my age, but i cant even ge tthe slop knot right! i really want to learn and it looks so easy but i cant get it! i'll keep trying but it doesn't look so good :/

  • @4340cupcake hey, i just started learning to crochet too and i'm 15. the first week when i was crocheting, i didnt get it at all, i kept doing it wrong and it pissed me off. but after about a week of practice, i started getting it right. you just need a little patience and practice :)

i know how you feel, i felt the exact same way because my mum learnt it herself too.

    now i'm trying to knit...

    :)

    x

  • This was very easy to follow.Wayyyyyyyyyyyy better than the books like many people have said!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this helped me alot! way better then any book

  • cool

  • THIS IS WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY TO FAST

  • @xxsockocrazyxx try pausing it and studying it :)

  • Thank you! I couldnt get the slip-knot thing but you made it easy to understand!

  • This is waaay to fast for a beginner. She keeps saying simple and easy, but is not explaining the steps in detail.

  • @lindy4fishing You must be new to YouTube. There is a little button with 2 lines going UP and DOWN. When you click on that, the video stops! Magic! And you keep pressing this button when ever you need to! It makes it SLOW!

  • @SuperMac18ROX33 I have of course been pressing pause. I am still not getting it. I'm completely clueless to this...maybe I need a beginner's beginner course....haha!!

  • @lindy4fishing Lol dont worry, I was the same way. You just gotta practice! :) Well...Once you find a video that works for you. OH and there is one video. I cant remember her name but its like Crochet Witch or something... Lol sorry! But she tells you how to make the chain, and then puts it in slow motion. Hope this helps! :)

  • @SuperMac18ROX33 That is very helpful! Thanks so much! :) I will see if I can't find it! I know once I learn it, I"ll be like "duh!" haha...but until then....

    Thanks again :)

  • @lindy4fishing Haha! Sorry that I cant remember... and I would look but my computer is being very slow. Lol it took long enough to get back to reply! Good luck! :)

  • Best explanation i got so far. Thanks

  • same here!! =/ guess i need a bigger hook!! X) lol

  • this is so hard

  • I cant get it im so fustrated

  • @lvrgirl72 I am soo with you! LOL

    Anna! :)<3

  • nice and easy shown video, thank you

  • This explains your other vid, thanks (:

  • i think this is the best and easier to understand.......

  • Wow thanks so much! I couldnt get how i was supposed to get it through from the book I was using this helped me MAJORLY:0)

  • Crocheting for me has been soo easy, and I started crocheting chains since I was 9yrs old. Now I love it soooooo much!!

  • When you finish with the chain and you are ready for that second row, how do you go down to the second row?

  • actually you do single crochet or combine the stitches in each end to do a circle. there are tutorials of how to make a circle. :)

  • i......cant.......do..............it....:(

  • you can do it! believe yourself that you can do it. You will do it.

  • thanks bunches

  • thanks so much! i actually got it

  • me too it sucks!

  • How Rude!

  • How to you start a project that says

    2ch?

  • It took me 2 hours last night to figure out how to do this from a book. (30 mins just to figure out a slip knot. yikes!) Thank you for making it look SO easy. Especially showing an 'alternative' way to wrap the yarn around your hand. Much less complicated than how I was shown in the book. THANK YOU! :) p.s. I am impressed you can crochet with nails!

  • I love ur nails lol :p

  • Thank you so much. Book is worthless. Took me like 20 watches to get it. But you're great!

  • wow!

that is just like finger knitting!!!

  • my mom has been trying to teach me but she goes too fast thanks for putting this on here you have been a great help :) your very pleasent to watch :) have a great day and God bless!!

  • Oh my gosh, thank you so much for posting this, I am new at this and this helped me so much.

  • Tried the books and diagrams but just couldn't get it. I watched your video and it made MUCH more sense. Thank you for taking the time!

  • Thank you! Your video was the key to my mastering of the chain stitch.

  • Very well done. Thanks

  • Comment removed

  • thank you! This helped so much! <3

  • wow! I just bought yarn today caus im gonna make a scarf for my older sis... anyways, I've never crocheted before, nor have i ever seen anyone crochet.. but this vid helped a lot! thank you!

  • not to be rude but she is reallyhard to follow....esspecially for beginers. shes good at explaining but it is so far away from the camera and she is using a lighter color which blends in with the ground.

i reccomend teresa's crochet tutorials or search "How to crochet part 1"

  • I'm a brand spankin' new beginner and purchased light colored yarn to begin with. I was clueless as to why I couldn't see where I was going until I read a few of these comments. Its impossible to do a second row or stitches without being able to see them, at least when you're a newbie!

  • That was a great tip, thank you!

  • your video doesnt help. i used to be able to do this and now i cant seem to anymore. your video just made it more confusing for me because none of it made sense.

  • slow down

  • This was great for helping me remember how to crochet. I used to love making scarves, and now I can get back into it ^o^ The brand of yarn that I really like is "Lions brand," It's really nice, soft and pretty easy to work with...

  • ok, i just bought the stuff to do this, I got a little needle and some yarn, but when I try to take the knot off the needle, to make the chain stitch thing, it comes off the needle completely. If that makes since, lol. Any advice? thanks.

  • I had the same problem, it took me a mont to get this right. Try useing a different way to hold the needle or make the knot slowly or bigger. It's tough, but you'll get it.

  • I'm assuming that you mean you have a hook. She's just making a slip knot, and using the hook to pull the knot tight (while holding on to both ends of the yarn) instead of just pulling it with her finger and putting it on the hook after (that's the way I do it, I find it easier). Then you just yo and pull through till you have the length you want and there's your foundation chain.

  • Thank you so much! It helps greatly!

  • best one so far!!

  • thankyou it was a good video :) <3

  • wow -.- , this is my first time and you were going waaaay too fast , this doesnt help at all

  • reallly? lol this is the best video i've freakin seen u r slow.

  • This video was great! It really helped me a lot! For those of you who think it was too fast........ IT'S CALLED PAUSE BUTTON!!!! I used it a few times to study the way she held the yarn and to see which way the yarn was being pulled... worked great for me!

  • @tristaburd and how are u suppose to puase while trying to do it and watch??? just saying... :D

  • @tristaburd what you said " use the PAUSE BUTTON" help me out

  • i keep trying but i cant crochet at all i have watched lots vidshow to crochet but i cant seem to crochet your vid was way too fastat you could see the picture that good it also wouldnt load

  • i LOVE this video thank you thank you THANK YOU

  • wow look at those nails!!!

  • i have got to be the biggest idiot.. i can't do this for the life of me

  • imma 10 year old girl and i already learned thx

  • This video is great! Very easy to understand. Thanks so much!

  • You have got to be really dumb for this to be too fast for you

  • Thanks - I was able to easily follow these instruction

  • Why are those crochet hooks diffrent from mine?.. they are so big

  • What size is it?

  • huh?!

  • im glad to see someone else is just as confused, thought it was just me

  • there is another way to start off crocheting. The chainless single crochet. DUH

  • this video was awesome. Thanks!

  • i'm am so confused on how to do this left handed, i can do the chain with out the hook, but i want to to do other things

  • this video sucks. no help at all. i tried to do it at the same time. no repeats and it's too quick for real beginners

  • this video does suck, it was way too fast

  • what type of yarn is it i like it and i want it

  • Far too fast for an actual beginner like me... I had to keep pausing and I'm still utterly lost.

  • I have never crcheted before this was very helpful. I am crocheting sleeping mats for third world countries and this really helped me get started! Thanks!

  • umm.. yes i know.

you're right.. i DONT know how to crochet.

    so what's your point?

the title says how to crochet for beginners. therefore it's supposed to teach me or at least help me, and it did neither.

  • How do you make A slit knot?

  • i am having DIFFICULTIES. the way you hold it is alot easier for me. this helped me het to about halfway through the third line and then everything went to hell i dunno why. im scared to start my forth line. my problem = holding it a stable way + my yarn coming apart so instead of a solid i have 4 strings that are all over the place. so frustrating!

  • Thanks so much! This is what I needed to get started again! I kinda forgot how to crochet!! Your vid helped alot!!

  • You know you always talk about yarn

  • I just started crocheting and your tutorials has been extremely helpful.

  • way to fast

  • shut up ihate you

  • Make me she is going way to fast

  • Lmao! :D

  • who do you hate cause i know u don't hat e anyone by the name thejohncena2113

  • Thank you . I never understood (RS) or (WS) now I get it.
