  • @nymyht yes its my favourite instrumental. Im 60 and my family knows that this is to played at my funeral

  • @critchley3819 That's a beautiful idea.

  • @nymyht Yes I guess it is, but I'm in no hurry to try it,

  • @nymyht Yes I guess it is, but in no hurry to see how it goes.

  • @nymyht Not to be disagreeable, but you must have meant 1959, right? (the song and the movie came out then) - my all-time favorite. I graduated in 1960.

  • @recovering16 Thank you R16! I did mean 1960 which is the year I also graduated! First time I ever made myself 4 years older! 1956 was Freshman year, also a great one...

  • @nymyht Hey, great to meet a fellow 1960 graduate. Where did you "matriculate"? LOL. I was in Wiesbaden, Germany at an American high school there. I saw the movie at the base theater. I saw it as many times as I could, and memorized all the dialogue from the love scenes between Molly and Johnny. (Yes, I was a hopeless romantic, and still am!)

  • @recovering16 Interesting...I've never been to Germany. I graduated from Brick Township HS in NJ. Wow, you were a huge fan of that film. I also plead guilty to being a hopeless romantic now and forever! :) Sometimes it leads to :( But it's all good..

  • I'm slow dancing with a broom. Can't help myself.

  • @poetcomic1 Thanks for the laugh! I was letting myself get kind of teary.

  • @poetcomic1 I like to lead too. : )

  • Gigi !!!!

  • This is a lot better then some of the so called music in the charts these days.

  • My recollections are somewhat different from other peoples' here. I recall this the fist time in the UK on a record entitled Great Instrumental Hits - or something like that which came out around 1976 or perhaps a little later. I recorded it and had the music on a cassette!

  • Reminds me of Sandra Dee

  • Love it..gets the emotions going.

  • don't you just love it .......

  • Mom and Dad's favorite song; played it at my Mom's funeral...miss you both...

  • I was 14 when I heard this song for the first time. I lived in a small town in Brazil. We had only one cinema there. Everytime when they started to show the movie they usually played this song. So I just kept it in my mind since then...

Has escrito muy bien - felicitaciones!

  • lovely, melodious, fantastic

  • this is not the orginal recording ! two thumbs down, after sitting through a lousy add too !

  • Love it what a great song

  • hey! I was born during the nine week run that this was number one also! april 16 1960

  • Thanks for all the cool information! I was born during its long run as #1 on the chart! =)

  • The old version by Percy Faith, top hit in 1960, is a lot better, only violins and piano, the music is so beautiful, you feel as you were sitting alone on the beach to hear the sound of the waves coming . . This version ruins the serenity of the original version by adding some noisy instruments. Hear the original version, you will see the big difference.

  • magical! :)

  • This is not percy faith unless it's a remake. The original can be found on youtube, I just listened to it on another useres channel. You can clearly tell which is the original and which is a remake. Still a beautiful song though.

  • Don't think it's Percy Faith. Sounds tinny and it's way too fast. For comparison listen to the one posted by 'Muirmaiden', which lasts about 20 sec longer. It was my wife's favourite record (groan) so believe me I know how it should sound.

  • Because it was such a beautiful era (to me) back then, the movie had relevance & magic that isn't experienced anymore. You don't need computer graphics & other trickery to produce great movies. "by love Possessed" was on last night it was a good movie (1957) much like others way back when........

  • It's not just a beautiful song - and I mean BEAUTIFUL - it takes me back to a much different, more tranquil, sentimental, simple and less tense time. Both America and the world of music were better. I was very young when the movie was released, but I can remember my Mom listening to a radio station that played it. Oh, if only those days could return...

  • Everytime I hear this song, I think of Mom, and get a bit teary-eyed. thanks.

  • Muito linda a música.Bons e velhos tempos.

  • Lannee I would love to spend my life with you in our summer place.

  • I only know this song because of the simpsons

  • This song takes me back to my high schools days like "Magic". It never grows old and one never tires of listening to it, just great great music. Another time, another place, life was much more simple yet rewarding.

  • Can anybody writ music like this today? No talent today.

  • Beautiful wonderful life music, i love it thank you for [posting].

  • theme...

    from a summer place...

    its the theme...

    from a summer place...

    god bless jasper

  • OMG!!! THATS what this song is. Thank you. I am loving this music!

  • This lovely music reminds me of my childhood, running through corn fields, hot summer days, not a care in the world. thank you.

  • AZUCENA DOMINGUEZ, I think if I'll dance without stopping, all romantic themes that somehow we enjoy play in those wonderful our day, end up exhausted and resting in the clouds

  • Great song for smokin a spliff to

  • This song has been used in many movies... this is a true classic!!

  • ES COMO BAÑARSE EN UNA BALSA DE ACEITE SUAVE y RELAJANTE.

SIEMPRE ES UN PLACER OIRLA y NO ME CANSO DE REPETIRLA

  • Sure sounds a lot like Mancini's arrangement. Did they all record the same chart … and who wrote the arrangement?

  • This is Percy Faith. I Love It!

  • It´s beautiful. Thanks you

  • Reminds me of Sandra Dee

  • this is our theme song for the camp i work at. all of the counselors sit around the bondfire and hold hands while listening to it. brings back great memories.

  • Wow, I've loved this tune since it first came out. I saw the movie when it first showed....really. LOL, My first high school love was with me and we both loved this movie. What memories...thank you for this.

  • Can anyone tell me if that house in Summer Place, the one on the beach is still there and if so what part of america is it in.

  • we'll forever be in a summer place : )

  • This is my mom's favorite; have a CD of this; I played this music during her last moment in the hospital.

I like the female choral version too. I could not find that in the music store.

He escuchado cientos de versiones. ¡¡¡GENIAL!!!!

  • Needs Jasper from the simpsons

  • sshbm- Great news about the female version recorded in'69 ! Now please tell me where I can get a 33 RPM Vinyl or CD of this vocal version. I've never heard it or seen it offered anywhere.

  • J'étais jeune

  • What a romantic beautiful sexy song!

  • lol this was so out of place on stephen kings rose red

  • inspired song, the ventures version is the best

  • This IS the original Percy version. I listened to this song at least 10,000 times back in the 60's and contrary to what some people indicates, it does fade out. I still love this song,. ~sigh~

  • @snafukirley..of course it's Percy's version, but done expertly by the City of Prague Philharmonic...

  • @snafukirley LOL! I guess listening to the song 10,000 times isn't enough for you to positively identify it. I'd post a link here to the original 1960 hit version by Percy Faith and His orchestra, but youtube doesn't allow posting of links. Anyway, search 'theme from a summer place' here and listen to the version posted by Dungaudigy2. Then, compare it to this version here, and you will plainly hear the differences. Enjoy.

  • This piece is sooooo awsome. love love love it!!!!!!

  • Wonderful, such happy memories.

  • While others will argue about who played this version, I Think my daughter would laugh ( and perhaps you will) when I say that I like all the versions, several by Percy and one by Mancini (god I love this song!)....as a novice bass player though, I think the bass at the beginning of this piece starts a little late.....and prefer the drums on Mancini's version, however, it's a slower tempo, almost like he said "how slow can I do this piece"? Too much detail? Hahaha :)

  • RELAXOVISION

  • I don't get it. Your title description says "Percy Faith version', while in your description, you list the artist as The City Of Prague Philharmonic. Many posts here then mistake this version for Faith's. While it is a fairly good rendering of the song, it pales in comparison to Faith's. What's up?

  • @dbeatlefreak Don't get confuse, It's Percy Faith Version.

  • Comment removed

  • @sshbm I'm sorry, my friend, but you are incorrect. The version you have posted is NOT by Percy Faith. I have tried to post links to other youtube videos where Faith's original version from 1960 was used, but apparently youtube does not allow the posting of links to other videos on the site. Try listening to the version posted by kotetu1011, or boswell69, or malpen04 to hear the difference in your posted version and the original. Most obvious is the clean end in yours versus the original fade.

  • @dbeatlefreak I agree. There is no double bass in this version unlike Percy Faith's take on it.

  • @sshbm It's Percy Faith's version played by the Philharmonic, but not actually Percy's original.

  • @sshbm I was about 5 when this came out, but yes this is the Percy Faith version. The movie used to be on afternoon movies about once a year when I was about 12, still like the music

  • @sshbm Sorry, but it is NOT the original 1960 version of Percy Faith's wonderful song. The tempo on this is too fast, and the instrumentation is very different. Still, it's a very good rendition of the song. I do remember this song well, it's been a favorite of mine since it came out on 1960 when I was 10 years old.

  • @sshbm If it's not performed by the Percy Faith Orchestra, it's NOT their "version." It's an interpretation or attempted duplication of the original, & does NOT sound the same.

  • There will now be a medium-sized intermission.

  • FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO SEE SOMETHING SPECIAL ABOUT SANDRA DEE. Her last interview, on italian television, partially spoken in english. Fantastic document.

Paolo Limiti intervista Sandra Dee - 4 parts

  • No comments, one of the best pieces of music of the XXth century.

How could Max Steiner create such a perfection?.

    Anyone knows the answer?

I have a deep emotional experience whenever I listen to it.

    Only "Imagine" can match it.

Thank you Mr. Steiner, thank you Mr Faith, thank you Sandra Dee, thanks to all of you....

  • Perfect! way to go Percy!

  • cold.classic freeze. thanks percy.

  • I was about 17 when the movie came out...This song "Summer Place" was on the radio for many weeks....it takes me back many years..every thing was SOOOO different back then , but wonderful !

  • @ftjax : you are soooo right and I just have the same feeling... i wish that we could go back to this wonderful time...

  • @ftjax Too bad the movie was nowhere as good as its theme music. The theme is probably the only reason anyone today, outside of genuine cinema trivia addicts, even know there was a movie.

  • @ftjax I was 12 when it was on the Hitparade.... Wonderful!

  • Ah perfect... For everyone who has that special summer place

  • I love Sandra Dee!

  • The musical arrangement is just sublime. This music has the ability to take you to another time and place, and touch your emotions.

  • @gabbydeb it really does

  • @gabbydeb It's those horn riffs near the end that really close the sale.

  • The original and the best. The best french horns on any piece of work.

  • The original and the best.

  • I will NEVER get tired of this song!! :) Thanks for posting.

  • SENCILLAMENTE BELLÍSIMA!!!!!!!!!

  • THKS BPpic!!! Jeez, when this hit the charts - I loved the music - of course, the movie studios were in the process of trying to force Troy Donohue/Sandra Dee down our teen throats as the "new" American sweetheart couple (Debbie & Eddie were "old" to us). Sandra Dee was a cutie ("...daddy, do I bounce...?); the music has lasted, neither Sandra nor I have.

  • Try the Duane Eddy version of this song. Even more Lovely.

    Mike

  • I danced to this song with my favorite teacher (algebra) at West Tech High School in Cleveland, Ohio on April 22, 1960 at a dance in the school's gym. A lovely memory, and a lovely song. ♫♥♫

  • @TopazDupree

    Nice one. Grand memories eh?
