  • after dylan wrote this woody guthrie sent him a letter saying "i aint dead yet..."

  • @BobDylansDream3 no. he went to visit woody guthrie and guthrie handed him the card.

  • @TheTroyBreslow why would he hand him a card instead of telling him right there? deffenatly sent a letter...

  • The greatest composer of music since Mozart.

  • 180 people know what the hell is up as young genius sprouts and 0 people want to disagree. Nice for a change.

  • Not to be a troll, but this needs one thumb down. Perfection is not the human condition. It's the striving to reach it that brings out greatness. Thank you, Bobby, for trying so damn hard.

  • It looks like it's dying but it's hardly been born!...Amazing song!

  • This song uses the melody of Guthrie's "1913 Massacre".

  • isn't this called "Woody Guthrie's Blues"?

  • I just love the sound of this song, bob's voice is amazing on this one.

  • love, love, love this song. best tribute song ever. fills me up with love....

  • @laziogoalie6 traveling with bob dylan

  • Marry me.

  • For being one of Dylan's first songs, this showed the brilliance of his songwriting, and hinted at what he would bring in the future. This song really encapsulates Guthrie's spirit, so much that you can imagine yourself in the room with Dylan as he sang it to Woody.

  • This is my favourite Bob song also; and one of my favourite love songs. I was just listening to the radio and the announcer said "leadbelly" and I had to hear the way bob sings his name hear..kinda 'leadbellycho"...aaahh...thanks for the fix....

  • my cast and I are using song to woody in our personalized adaptation of bobrauschenbergamerica by charles mee.

I must say it is the perfect song for our show and I nearly cry every time becker plays it on his guitar.

tonight is our last show and I am going to miss it so much. at least I know this song will always be here to remind me of good times.

  • hurry and listen to this before it gets deleted.

  • I love him so much

good his lyrics are so real

  • One of my biggest regrets is not having lived through the sixties.

  • @risquebicycle i've thought that all my 16 years of life... peace and love

  • @risquebicycle you are def not alone there I wish I also lived in the 60s, such moving music

  • wow youtube hasn't deleted this yet. they better not, sonsabitches

  • @IveGot--I played this over and over--always wished I could've met woody but I was on the other side of the country-- and a teenager. I wore a black armband to school the day after he died. The song brings back so many memories. That was a time, wasn't it? It is so great that these memories can come flooding back through technology. @tgrsmuggs thanks for putting this up. The vinyl is gone but the memories remain.

  • Just heard this track on an episode of Mad Men, seasonn 3. It was the closing song. Incredible !! I'm loving this old folk music.

Listen to 1913 Massacre. Woody Guthrie.

  • R.I.P WOODY

  • This song announces the sheer brilliance that is to come.

  • "theres not many men done the things that you've done" ..aint it right..

  • this song's been stuck in my head all day... when i was in highschool we had a dylan day every year and when i was a senior my english class and i sang this for the whole student body...

  • Thanks for uploading this. can you upload more from his first album?

  • @farynlovesyourface listen to the witmark demos

  • This is so incredible. My dad, who died two years ago from cancer, traveled with Dylan before he really made it big. They took a road trip to visit Guthrie in the hospital when he was dying and Dylan played this song. I love how technology enables me to hear it and be reminded of my dad and the amazing life he led

  • @IveGotaTheory I love woody guthrie and arlo, as well. bob dylan is amazing

  • @IveGotaTheory thats an amazing story. hold onto that

  • @IveGotaTheory may your dad rest well! and that is anazingto be with dylan on that trip to the hospital! peace to you and yours....

  • @IveGotaTheory I seriously doubt the authenticity of your story.

  • @MikeSkiera And I'd care why?

  • @IveGotaTheory Because Dylan traveled alone to visit Guthrie.

  • @MikeSkiera Google Mark Eastman (my dad) and Bob Dylan. the first thing that comes up should say "Political folk music in America from its origins to Bob Dylan". Word of advice for the future: don't accuse someone's dead father of lying

  • @MikeSkiera That's what I was thinking too.

  • @IveGotaTheory that's awesome man

  • @IveGotaTheory thumbs up x 1,000,000

  • @IveGotaTheory My english teacher likes and gave handouts on Woody Guthrie. I'm thinking of doing a essay on Woody. It looks as if you may be Wood's daughter acording to what you said. Woody seems like a wonderful writer to me, and down to earth and heavenly treasures.

  • that is an amazing story. Dylans the only reason i learned how to play music. the first time i heard the song knockin on heavens door i was hooked and had to learn all of dylans songs i hope you check out my profile maybe i can remind you of yer dad alittle more. take care friend i know what its like to lose a father who is perfect

  • @IveGotaTheory i doubt that even happened...

  • @IveGotaTheory I think I know who your dad is. I've seen it in countless documentaries about when Dylan and a friend went to visit him. What an amazing chance to be with one of the greatest individuals to walk the world. Be proud.

  • @IveGotaTheory
