  • I love it. I've heard the song before but not this version. Thank you and thanks to Katie who shared. ♥

  • My Grandmother was a Sunday School and Kindergarten teacher for over 50 Years-

This brings back so many fond memories of her singing this with me and my siblings......

  • Thumbs up if you're here because of A Dirty Shame

  • Not to change the subject, but Julia Ward Howe wrote The Battle Hymn of the Republic and Do Lord. Just thought I would throw that in there too. What a beautiful song. Jesus is waiting for us to open up our hearts. Awesome singing!! Thanks for posting it. Keep singing for the Lord!!

  • Hearing this again brought a tear to my eye.

  • I haven't seen that sleeve in 50 years! I still remember some of the lyrics from the song on the flip side. "Tell them the church is open, they're welcome to drop in" Any chance you can post it?

  • Play this at 33 1/3 and you will find that it is two grown women -- supposedly Stuart's wife and daughter

  • Fascinating. Written by Stuart "This Ole House" Hamblen

  • @Strawberry7Lynn Both of those songs are excellent, talented man.

  • Love this!! So sweet, thank you for posting it!

  • Does anyone have pictures of these girls?

  • It's actually sung slowly by a grown woman and then recorded and speeded up.

  • The song is actually cute.

  • @TheAntiTuber It is kind of a fun one, thanks fo commenting

  • Do you have another song by the Cowboy Church Sunday School called "Those bad bad kids"? My dad always played it when I was growing up. Would love to hear it again.

  • Sorry Don't have it.

  • all i know is the 45 that has the beautiful little blonde girl , wt\ith great big blue eyes. she was dressed in a baby blue coat and hat against a pink backdrop. and she was holding a beautiful white persian kitten. my sister and i played that so much we literally wore it out...and unfortunatly, ruined it. thank you for the memories!

  • No problem, this is a classic record, I'm glad I could post it for you. Thanks for listening :-)

  • Thank you soooo very much for posting this. I have search all of my life for this song. I used to listen to it was I was little and never knew who it was from. You brought a smile not to mention a couple of tears. You really made my day. Thank you!!!

  • @01musicfan thank you! i have listened to that too. i sent the link to my sister, as i think she would get a kick out of it. This is because we used to play the other side of our 45 and laugh, because after her sweet little voice, a great baritone sings on the other side, i'm quite sure it was Jesus love's me this i know.

You must be a bit younger than me, if you first heard it on flinstones. I never even knew it was on there until about 4 yrs ago.

flinstones was new when i was little :)

  • Wow, I didn't think I would be seeing someone like you here too. Awesome!

  • Yes, some of us oldtimers actually use technology..hehe Thanks for commenting.

  • I was talking to metallicarocks123, but okay.

  • OK :-)

  • @01musicfan Yeah, I DID invite you in though. Thanks for the music!

  • You're quite welcome!

  • And thanks for becoming my friend! If the teenagers only knew how good this music is, they would be set.

  • Not quite a sped up tape: in 1955 servo DC motors didn't exist and the only way to varispeed tape was with a variable oscilator. Hamblin had the 45 mastered at 33 1/3 RPM to sound like it was younger kids singing. I'm not sure how he got the 78 to match. Even if the differences in speed were the same, a 78 would be cut on a different lathe with a heavier cut and I'm not sure there'd be a 45 RPM speed on it.

  • Thanks for the clarification, maybe after it was mastered they just recorded the audio from the 45 to make a 78 master? Just a thought.

  • Interesting info. We were wondering about that. Now we know.

  • Stuart Hamblen was the Prohibition Party candidate for President in 1952.

  • I din not know that; thanks for the information. Always learning new stuff here.

  • Daddymccourt: I admit to having bought one of those records back in 1950 something........... A Handful of Sunshine b/w Those Bad Bad Kids, issued in the UK on a Brunswick 78. My grandmother sat on it as I recall.

  • Sorry to hear of the demise of that old 78. Thanks for your comments :-)

  • Actually, this was sung by a little girl named Carol Sue (apparently a member of the church attended by gospel singer Stu Hamblen), who didn't receive any "billing" on the record label but was credited on the sheet music. Carol Sue was supposedly accompanied by some other youngsters who attended the same church.

The song reached No. 8 nationally in the spring of 1955.

  • Still have a copy I bought over 50 years ago - a classic! There are 3 other records by them from the same period

  • Thanks for the reply, gad you liked it, also going to keep an eye out for their other records. :-)
