Anyone else immediately think that the "young elf lord" is a reference to Legolas? I really hope that I am wrong, but then again the fact that Itaril is a character at all is completely against the book so you never know what other major changes they'll make.

@Lotrgecko That's what I'm afraid too. I hope PJ wouldn't commit such a crime. If they want to add made up characters and storyline into The Hobbit too bad. But at least they should leave Legolas character as he is.

@tylerfh2012 Exactly! I don't get why Rebekah can't just come out and mention that most fans are upset about this. Is this torn jumping on the bandwagon of "yes for more twilight romance"? Why can't they put their foot down and mention what the viewers feel?

@darthclide maybe there has yet to be a substantial fan uprising because the info. just hasn't been out that much. To change that, I've made a facebook page: "Hobbit Fans Against Itaril." Maybe if we get enough people to join it, we can get the attention of some people in charge.

Just curious, are we a minority who think that this female elf warrior is a horrible decision on pj's part? I mean, I am sure he will work magic to make it fit in the film, but where on earth is this warrior mentioned in the hobbit? And where on earth was there a love story in the Hobbit? Sounds like a bunch of Hollywood romance crap yet again.... Does Rebekah or any other big name forum users mention this problem on the board discussions? I cannot see how anyone is eager for this cast decision

@darthclide No,we are not in minority.There is a poll on The Hobbit Movie com if Itaril should be in the movie or not and 67% people voted "no".There is "Don't put Itaril Into the Hobbit" group on Facebook.Fans tell their objections and disagreements every time an articles,speculations,rumors..­.about this character or S.Ronan appear on the internet.Many fans have issue with this character.

We had a great time celebrating Tolkien Reading Day at The Marion E. Wade Center in Wheaton, IL. About 70 people showed up for readings, music, food, and a Tolkien trivia contest. It was lots of fun, and we're starting up a Tolkien Society as well!

I've actually just started reading The Two towers again for about a half a month ago because last time i read the first and 2nd book was like 3-4 years ago now and i'm slowly hyping up to The Hobbit movie :) I've read The Hobbit as well when i was 12-13 years old which is 8-9 years ago and i'm defintely gonna read it ago so i'm prepared for the movie !! :)

Could someone with access to Peter Jackson please tell him that he'd better not screw this classic, beloved story up with a cheesy, manufactured romance? Please don't ruin it for all of us true fans.

Are they adding the Itaril romance so that women will go see the movie? Tell me, do they stick random action/adventure scenes into romantic comedies so that more guys will go? NO! Guys will go because 1) their girlfriend takes them, or 2) they like that kind of thing o_O

Girls will see The Hobbit for the same reasons: they want to go already because they love the story, or their boyfriend takes them. And this type of movie is more universally appealing anyway; it doesn't need the love story.

If Itaril is a minor role that shows up a little, that's OK within artistic license, but if they're going to invent a whole new character's story to follow as in-depth as Bilbo's, it will really drag the story down. There's plenty of extra material going on with the back-story of the Dwarves, and the White Council, and Sauron in Dol-Guldur to make it interesting without inventing characters no one cares about. When the audience doesn't care about the characters, there's no point.
