  • Wow, that was one of the most pleasant, thoughtful, Rush interviews Ive heard!

Makes you go beyond respect for the band

  • "They want a three minute hit....let's write a 20 minute song..." lol gotta love that line.

  • In the 36 years I have been a Rush fan I have never heard an album I hated. I cannot say that about any other group. Rush has always written the sound track of my life. Thank you Neil, Alex and Geddy!

    Great Interview!

  • "Q" best show on Radio....hands down...

  • Gus de Rush, je vous aimes! Merci!

  • everything about the interview thus far is great and i give props to the interviewer

  • Jian it's a natural in interviewing...

  • Ghomeshi is a first-class interviewer, and Lee and Lifeson are articulate and accessible.

  • This is such an amazing interview. One of the best I've heard with Alex and Geddy.

  • Ron Paul fans like RUSH. hahaha sorry. i like Ron Paul and RUSH.

  • That was a better interview than I thought it would be. Great stuff.

  • I like this my daddy used to play Rush for me in the 2000s and I'm only 76 years old

  • TRUE ARTIST!

  • @wasp2020 I agree if this rock stuff doesn't work out he can do comedy, he's so funny

  • @blackroster757 what the hell don't you mean lil rush

  • at 46 seconds geddy has the look on his face "did we really do all that"

  • CAMPAIGN AGAINST MONETARY CAPTURE: EPIC DRUM RIFFS, TO DRUMMY, WORLD WIDE PHENOMENON, IN ALL DIFFERENT POVERTY ZONES, TOO TIRED, TO THINK ABOUT IT, AS ITS JUST TO MUCH EFFORT, EXHAUSTED, JUST CONSIDERING THE CRAP WE CHURN OUT MAKES US TREMENDOUSLY NAKERED, BRITISH FOR TIRED. • i cried at my first rush concert. they were 15 minutes late. and then just bam. spirit of radio. i cried. it was so amazing

  • Does anybody know when this interview was from?

  • They look so beat during the intro. 'Sigh'

  • He reads a lot of books. "He must know words" LOL

    Love Alex! hahaha

  • Geddy's like DAYUM what an intro

  • "Our music is weird!"

    Haha, I love that!!

  • SUPER GUYS, BEST IN THE WORLD, OR NOT?

  • Alex and Geddy ARE rockn' roll! (If you would have to use that term..) They are both completely free of attitude, polite, relaxed and selfconfident. Love them

  • 1 hour well spent

  • What an excellent interview. Probably the best rush interview I've seen. Cool to see these guys so down to earth as well. Although, I think they are quite a bit older now.

  • thumbs up if you watched the whole thing

  • Great interview...on a side note @ 25:10 put it on pause and have a look at the screen on the lap top, you'll see the producers notes to the host.

  • Ther ARE a PHENOMENA ! Great artists ! TOO UNDERESTIMATED !!!!

  • Neil PERT!! ANN Rand!!!! Very clearly NOT a Rush fan ))):

  • I was great Rush fan for a long time (pre YouTube) while thinking Geddy was pronounced Jeddy. Sorry Gary.

  • We Will Rock You criminal "Bashar al-Assad"

We Will Rock You criminal "Bashar al-Assad"

We Will Rock You criminal "Bashar al-Assad"

We Will Rock You criminal "Bashar al-Assad"

We Will Rock You criminal "Bashar al-Assad"

We Will Rock You criminal "Bashar al-Assad"

  • All those accolades yet he forgets to mention the crime that they have yet to be inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame!

  • @MrNotyag You are correct sir ... and for that I and millions of Rush fans around the world "Thank you America!"

  • I photographed Rush in 75 and 77. To see the shots go to 70srockphotos (.com)

  • lol 2 minutes and i already got bored by the interviewer ._.'

  • THE BEST OF THE HISTORY & WORLDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!

  • great musicianship, and i LOVE Geddy Lee... but i loathe Neil Peart with a passion

  • @PrimericanIdol Why the fuck would you loathe Neil? He's fucking awesome! So what if he gets embarassed when fans come up to him. Let the guy be private if he wants. He's really cool just like Geddy and Alex when he's in a position that he feels comfortable in. He's also the greatest drummer of all time and a fantastic lyricist.

  • @PrimericanIdol I assume you don't even know Neil Peart, therefore you can't make that judgement. Come on, where's the respect? If you can't say anything positive, keep it to yourself, eh? The guy is a fucking legend, and has been through so much.

  • @PrimericanIdol I can only associate you with someone who wants to be like Neil but realize you cant attain that level so you degrade him. To bad for you.

  • @Dennis242666 i don't play drums. At all. I am judging Neil based on his philosophical pretentiousness, and his musical stiffness. I love Geddy and Alex though. Geddy is a very great influence for me and Alex Lifeson is just awesome.

  • Love the humble attitude.

  • always been a part of my life growing up 30 yrs later still are.

  • WHERES NEIL?!

  • These guys make great music and are fine people as well. It really is about the music, not the groupies, drugs and trashed hotel rooms.

  • Thumbs up if you believe Rush should be in the Rock Hall

  • PEART NOT PERT!

  • i love this band, say no more

  • what an intro ! lol hillarious but yes RUSH are simply EPIC !

  • Good interview. Steve Shutt! WHo would ever have associated Shutt with Rush! Awesome.

  • Yes Geddy, we came to hear Closer to the heart & any other thing you guys blessed us with...especially those 12 minute Xanadu... you guys were beyond the $ machines it was always about the music!

Yay I get to go back - wherever the band takes me ~ tonight :)

  • @bobmarleyisgod1 I see where you're going with this but technically you're wrong. Authoritarianism is the absolute opposite of Libertarianism. Communism is the opposite of facism, and yes, communism easily be under authoritative control. Just saying.

  • Love the "Xanadu" shout out at 32:25.

  • Its pronounced Pirt! not pert

  • 24 People were looking for BIG TIME RUSH. Fags

  • 24 people meant to hi Dis I Like

  • That was great to watch ! Still cool guys and awesome musicians ! Saw them just a couple of weeks ago in Glasgow and was totally blown away ! Neils `kit is a work of art !Cant say enough good things about Rush ! Peace Ye`all !

  • look at geddy's face at 46 seconds in, he's like "We've done that, damn"

  • this guys a great interviewer - awesome vid

  • A real band! Sticking it to the man for 40 yrs. They never forgot the meaning of R&R!

  • Great interview! Insightful, thoughtful and informative. Awesome!

  • 38:40, I think some of Lifeson's best playing comes from the keyboard days.....

  • @siitrom Good point ! Love the Chordal solo in "Afterimage ! Peace Ye`all !!

  • @siitrom Agreed, especially when the synth's become very dominant. I'm surprised he ever found a way of playing around them and making it sound good

  • I like a performer intervew with honest, inteligent and good talk. I have loved Rush from the beginning. I have used some of their techniques and enjoy the freedom on the neck

  • And that 2 minute intro is for all the people in the world who have no idea who this band is, all three of you...

This was fascinating, worth my time.

  • it should be illegal to say anything bad about rush

  • rush is awesome

  • Wow. An interviewer who lets his guest speak for longer than 10 seconds. Impressive.

  • How fitting that some of Canada's best musical exports are down to earth.

  • @PhotonSherades Music is international, Rush has been international from the first.

  • Kings of Music Theory. Won't find that in today's music industry...A big thank you to todays music industry and all it's producers for having raped America of true musical geniuses...It's no longer about music...it's about who can be the biggest freak show...no talent needed.

  • I love RUSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i was behind the school smokin a cig but with my viola case in hand

  • This guy must have shit on his nose after that intro!

  • I love these guys! Awesome musicians and soooooo gracious.

  • great bunch of guys, it was a pleasure to watch them

  • fuck you YOUTUBE and your 30 second commercials before each cool video !!!!

  • thumbs up if youve gotten high to rush

  • Rush are not Trekkies. We're Rush-ians, plain and simple.

  • "Apocalyptic" as a song descriptor? Seriously? Wow......

  • Hi Geddy! I would say that Rush music is Art. There is no denying that .

  • watch?v=6VkGWPlK_A8

  • I adore Rush and Canada but I'm stuck in f.... Bosnia&Herzegovina

    Canada I'm yours!

  • rush is annoying

  • Great Interviewer! And Rush! All I can say is awesome! They are always awesome and always will be!

  • Probably one of the best [honest] interviews I have seen from a band. helps when you have a interviewer who knows what he is talking about and most importantly ... who he is talking to.

  • When a band is around for 20 to 35 years ya know they got the shit, american idol my ass, long live dio,he put in his time and should have got alot more props

  • rush is great. i love geddy lee

  • thats gotta be one of the best intro's ever in the history of man =D

  • Wheres Neil? :(

  • @chessdog13 Neil isn't really a people person. Which is fine.

  • @iamtheburninator yeah.. its cool. He's still awesome ;). I admire him very much

  • @chessdog13 I agree, Alex and Geddy are fantastic musicians and really friendly, inviting people. Neil is a fantastic musician, and although quite hilarious and fascinating, isn't quite as into addressing the fans.

  • @iamtheburninator i understand. Everybody has there space ;) he the reserved type haha and its one of my dreams to actually meet Neil.. :)

  • If you like Rush you sould listen and get immersed into the progressive world, "Yes" is your next step boys.

  • Pay close attention to the statement made by Geddy Lee at 27:57. If you want to know why rock music today is terrible that's the best explimation why rock and roll today is lacking.

  • seeing these gods july 2nd, fuck yea

  • They changed my life. I listen to Hemispheres, 2112, and Caress of Steel every day.

  • @Ryu12543 what about Farewell To Kings?!? :OP

  • @shawnsemchuk Just my top three, that's up there though. Every song they wrote in the '70s is astonishing.

  • did they really do all that stuff? yes. to break it down where it shoud be, they wrote and played some of the greastest rock and roll music. ever.

  • I remember the way the ass-hole English music press used to

tear into them. NME etc A truly unprincipled and elitist bunch of

psuedo-intelletual idiots.Today the Libyan revolution and

the Japan earthquake were on my mind, and listening to

Grace Under Pressure the spirit of the music just ripped

thru and bought tears to my eyes. " All that we can do is

just survive ...."" from Red sector A. Very moving. NME

    can get stuffed.

  • 14 years old. Parents going through rough divorce. Headphones. Signals.Subdivisions.

Rush's music formed my emotions as a young teenager, it's lyrics gave me my sense of morality and worth. With no one else to turn to, no one to help me become a man....Rush was there. I love and admire them. I became a musician myself because of Rush. They gave me bench mark to aspire to as I taught myself to play keys, bass, guitar, singing and other instruments as well as writing, producing and to jam.

  • @hopethisisthelast

That is terrific that RUSH helped you through so much...I understand and I know where you're coming from. Bravo to you for surviving all that and coming out so talented and with such a sense of self worth. :)

  • Thumbs up if you are a huge Rush fan but you hate the term "Rock Gods."

  • One of the best interviewers on the planet interviewing an amazing band = Great stuff!

  • WHERE'S NEIL PEARTS????

  • two good albums of music a year is great. but, if you tour 10 months a year, thats impossible. i don't wanna bring up VH, but they did it (one album per year and touring 8 or 9 months). so many great musicians out there. "burned out", i know that feeling. "get his chops back", neil peart. rush's music is not weird, it is direct. a tour is not important to me, music is.

  • us old farts know who the great bands are, no need for "hall of fame".

  • this video is fucking long... but great

  • They are favourite Jimmy Page band! But I love these guys anyway.

  • Rush so what Cheap Trick lol Cheap Trick rools aint that right ...so where is Neil ill figure.. so fast no doubt... but Trick Rulles and u know .. welcome to America Boys...

  • An excellent interview. I feel very fortunate to have discovered Rush when I was 15, working at my first job ever part-time after school for 2.04 an hour and singing "Working Man" with my buddies ... and then came 2112, Hemispheres, Moving Pictures, Permanent Waves as the soundtrack to my High School and college years, and through the 80's and 90's they were there, and even now 35 years on Rush are still great to me. They are real people, not a phony "industry" creation. A unique group.

  • I don't want Rush to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame because they are too good for that joke of an institution. Induct the Partridge Family and the Monkees. Rush shouldn't be lumped in with that garbage.

  • I think Geddy and Alex are holding back tears of pride during Jian's introduction.

  • The more I see interviews of them the more I think these guys are one of the greatest musicians on earth. The way they think and they are - and certainly the way they make music - make me proud of being a fan.

The greatest power trio EVER and one of the greatest band in the history of modern music.

  • Geddy and Alex are impressive human beings.

  • Great interview! Thank you for posting! RJ

  • this dumbass at the beginning needs to shut the fuck up

  • you make me think to much.

  • When the dj is talking about all the records they've sold, Geddy's like yeah we know

  • @MrBrown743 Honestly though, to be sat there whilst someone explains how awesome you are, i would get such a fuzzy feeling inside

  • Like him or not, the dj, Ghomeshi directed poignant and interesting questions at a level in which both rockers would feel comfortable responding to naturally. Much better than the routine, dull-headed questions.

  • IMO one of their best songs is The Necromancer. So underrated, the way it moves from drama to chaos to peace, amazing.

  • @Skinky123

Yes there are some very inspirational moments in The Necromancer.

  • 1:55 in and still not a sound from Neil and Alex - shut up already!

  • I like Geddy's looks in the beggining when the host rambles about their sales success and platinum records etc.

He knows they're good and selling shitloads.

  • @frysmaktoff I think both guys were feeling a tad embarrassed by Jian 's gushing and fact sharing...

  • An hour of Rush on YouTube..... never thought that was possible. BUT I LOVE IT!!!!
