@lividityfs That's nonsense... I know you're kidding around, but the Tune-Bot cannot setup your drums, change the drum heads, and use a Human Ear and thought process to tune. It's a very good aide in helping you develop your ears, but is simply not a replacement for a dude with a drum key.
I've been emailing back & forth with Overtone Labs about my problem and I will say they do have excellent customer service on this product. They did send me some info and tips which did get me going in the right direction.
Hey guys, I just picked one up yesterday and the tune-bot (or at least my unit) is a bitch to work with. I just spent over an hour trying to tune up just one tom. I tap my drum head in one spot, it gives me a reading, I tap it again in the exact same spot and it gives me a total different reading...???
I'll keep you posted if I have any luck with this thing.
@SgtMcNasty Moongel would probably work. If you don't want to dampen the fundamental with your finger, which is hassle. You can either use the filter mode (press filter after you've gotten a correct lug reading) or place the drum on a stool to dampen the bottom head.
You're right on track regarding the importance of properly tuned drums. Perfect Pitch and Clear Resonance is Everything! DrumTone was also at NAMM 2012 with a new technology that produces a perfectly clear acoustic pitch that is instantly adjustable, even while playing!
Look though our videos. We even change a top head and tune it to perfectly match the bottom head in less than 90 seconds! Perfect match for a Tune-Bot!
Drumming technology is really on the move. It's like drumming gets more technical every year. This product would really help for our drumline, especially for bass drums.
Drummers can finally tune to perfection. See my comment to Eric and check out the videos on DrumTone.com Contact me about making your drums sound fantastic.
A major problem with this. At 6:56 when you begin tuning the rack tom in absolute mode, the first lug you test (to the left of the tune-bot) reads 224.1. Then you go around the drum, without tuning or moving your finger, and when you get back to the lug you first hit, it then reads 222.6. If the same lug changes by that much then how are you supposed to accurately tune the drum. And if you say it is because you hit the drum softer or harder, then that makes the tune-bot simply useless.
i use the drum dial , but this TUNE BOT is the best product that i see for help drummers . i buy it and recomended all my drum friends in LIMA - PERU . good job drummer conection !!!!!
Looks good. I have a couple of questions. I have regular gigs where I set up in a noisy club, then we go straight on and play. Hence it's difficult to tune by ear. I currently use a torque key, and it works ok, but could be better. How would this system be in a situation with lots of background noise?
Also, instead of using one finger to damp the centre of the head, why not drop a bit of moongel on it?
I love to give this a shot for my self. I have a passion for tuning as well. I wonder does it make a matter is you use wooden, nylon tips? What is recommended? Also is there some way to place somethings in the middle of the drum head, instead of your finger, to help focus pitch and maintain accuracy in your tuning? Thanks.
@bsrpdrumstudio If you don't want to use the finger damping technique you can just press filter after picking up a lug measurement. This will tell the tune-bot to only display lug readings and reject readings from the overall tone. Also, you can place the drum on a stool to mute the opposite head (my preferred method).
Eric, this certainly looks to be the tool every drummer has been waiting for. Watching the demo, I do have a question...because the tuner is clipped to the rim and is stationary throughout the process, wouldn't the mic have a tendency to pick up a certain amount of pitch from the head at the point of placement? I wonder if a mic input (on the tuner) with a small "corded" mic than can be positioned at each tension rod as it's tuned might be more accurate. Just a thought. Great video.
@XDrummerSteve You have a point there on that, but the tune-bot was designed to be in the position I was demonstrating. I'm able to back up the readings with what I'm hearing at each lug. The thing works great.
@MrCrush352 Yeah, I was going for a specific sound on the intro recording that you heard. I can tune the drum either way I want, my bottom snare head was lower than the top snare head, so the snare sounded very deep and buzzy.
@dugworm It will still work actually - it'll just give you a fuller sound - the sound of the drum. I've tapped around the head and tuned it, but you might trick yourself to thinking a lug is a different pitch than it actually is.
Amazing product! I will definitely be purchasing one! I have a little off-topic question, how did you get your snare to light up with every hit? Me and a friend tried this with horrible results, if you could let me know how you done this, it would be very much appreciated!
Looks like you're out of a job, bud!

Not a fan of having the reso tighter than the batter, I prefer the batter a bit tighter if anything

Why not put a moongel in the center instead of going back and forth with your hand?

An electric attachment that controls motorized keys for every lug, that can tune all the lugs at the same time.
