My dad took me to the Intercontinental Hotel, Nairobi in 1986 when i was 8 years old to see this car. I still remember it. Kankunnen was driving it that year. They had it parked next to a stock 205 from Marshalls Kenya Limited, the local Peugeot dealer at the time.. Jean Todt was there too... before he became famous with Ferrari. lol...
thanks one more thing did the peugeot haved faster acceleration and better grip than audi s1 ? how would be cars handling and acceleration if it would be tunned to 650 bhp ??? WOULD 205 T16 TAKE ON LANCIA DELTA S4 AND FORD RS 200
@kalasnikov121 the quattro S1 E2 was faster in a staight line - due to the extra power, but the 205 T16 with its mid engine design, smaller size & space age frame meant it was far more agile through the stages.
I do know the bodykit on a quattro S1 E2 was designed to keep it on the floor - hope this helps.
@kalasnikov121 Now that is a tricky question the answer. The Peugeot was the better car technology wise, since it was purpose built rally car with mid engine opposed the audi which was based on a producion car. The most power the Audi put out in rally trim was 550bhp while the Peugeot was good for 540bhp at 3.0 bar boost.
The peugeot was also alot light than the audi and easyer to drive. The wings on the peugeot were there to make the car fly level over jumps as the orignal T16 had the tendancy
continued..................to kick its read end up on the air over jumps. While the body kit on the audi was there to combat the sever understeer and to try and get all the power onto the road which the sport quattro failed to do due it its lack of producing much downforce.
So its hard to say which is faster, in a straight line i reckon there would'nt be much between the two around a track though i think the Peugeot would take the Audi.
@Marvdogger My 3rd car was a 86 Audi Coupe quattro (136 bhp) and the understeer could scare anyone sh*tless.I live in Norway,so 4x4 on a "normal" car was equal to leaving all my mates for dead on the tracks they make on rivers, ponds, etc. in winter. But once i mastered leftfoot braking it became absolutely awesome.I should never have sold that car:(
@Marvdogger hmmmm wrong man audi beated peugeots when it comed to its evolution version the S1 walter beated peugeots, lancias, fords evryone AUDI is better but peugeot is lighter thats why it slides to much and by the way most audis s1 haved 550 bhp but some special version with power shift gearbox, dsg tehnology...haved 650 bhp it was a prototype driven by walter rohl ( in that rally wich beated peugeots and evryone )
@Marvdogger yea but audi haved actualy over 600 hp peugeot haved 500 but anyway what about audi s1 replica by prospeed bulgaria ? 880 hp with 870 kg ? with modern tehnology !!! here :/watch?v=sJkxsLY9H38 and ofcourse this one :D :/watch?v=GuGze5L6n_I&feature=related 0-60 mph ( 0-100 kmh) is 1.8 seconds 200 kmh gets in 6-7 seconds
@kalasnikov121 That car is a lot of shit. No matter how much power it has, it's not factory built. Even this little T16 would waste it as it done with every car since it was built. I don't mean this in a bad way, but it's not prepared how these cars would be. Jean Todt even said the T16 was capable of more than 800 if required and I think that was already proved when it was used in rally cross. The Audi is a nice car, but this thing was built to destroy everything
this car is awesome, i have the 205 1.9 GTI my goal is to reach this level of performance and elegance this car is eradiate in the vid. it will toke alot of time on money but it will be worth
Man. And I thought the 205 GTi was cool. This is insane. We're talking a little center-motor 500 hp 4WD 2-seater rallycar in hatchback disguice. I absolutely love it. I gotta have one of those puplic turbo 16's
The myth says that Peugeot only made 100 instead of 200,which was the production limit from FIA.They take a foto of the 100 cars in line and then they doublicate it .So there was 200 cars in he foto for FIA.One of the originals 205 t16 road version is in Greece.
Can u imagine that this was back in 1983-1987 and it is speculated to have had 600-650HP to the wheels. that is balls to the wall fast in modern times so back then they must have thought the car would jump into light speed!
i think the time is right for the ban of group B to be lifted... I miss those 600+hp cars of the eighties.
Still, we have to be gratefull that the sport wasn't banned completely. Only because the manufactors insisted to cut the performance of the cars to a safer level was the sport saved...
I still think that it's the spectators own responsabillity to take care of themself!
The T16 had better handling and made better use of the 4WD system compared to the Quattro Sport. It had a mid-mounted engine and thus was not as front end heavy as the Audi resulting in better tyre economy. But the T16 (or any other Group B car) will never reach the iconic status of the Audi Quattro Sport.
The 205T16 is well above the Audi Quattro. It beated, sorry, it dominated it in every field, and this is the ultimate Rally car. There only 1 point where the Quattro beats the 205: the sound. I think it was about 20 seconds per KP faster than the Audi's. Ari Vatanen did that.
The Audi Quattro felt like a 205 with a dead cow tied on the radiator. So they said in Amerika. See U at Le Mans.
