  • some of us come and leave in hate.

  • This nastrojowośćCoena honey is at the heart

  • I thank God for Leonard Cohen... he makes my day every time!!!

  • And O my love, I still recall

    The pleasures that we knew;

    The rivers and the waterfall,

    Wherein I bathed with you.

    Bewildered by your beauty there,

I’d kneel to dry your feet.

    By such instructions you prepare

    A man for Boogie Street.

  • jeez...I heard this for the first time when i was in England, in some shop of 'magic' stuff....still remember the impression I was under due to this song..

  • geweldig!!!!!

  • I hope I can live as long as mr Cohen and learn to see and understand life like he does.

  • I can't get enough of this stuff.

  • He is one of the best..............

  • Oh man, Cohen said it all andleft nothing to be said...He's a LEGEND!!!

    Magnifique chanson.

    Et merci pour ces images...parfaites.

    Un univers;

    Daniel

  • @danielv62 Je suis heureux que vous ayez appre'cie'. Paix

  • @jhigdon21 I am from a place where we learned to spell in school along with grammar and where we don't flaunt our collection of off color language. And what third world hell hole did your parents crawl out of?

  • great pictures

  • @aristotle1900 i am great i go to sleep my radio is on if where all is songs i hear him all night in my sleep too not really lol i love all music and i think he have great music

  • Nothing Leonard has written with or without Sharon can be appreciated on just one level....those of us who are truly touched and lifted by his poetry and songs, listen and listen again as we grapple with the layers of meaning....and the melodies become part of our souls...

  • oogie Street represents for me Leonard Cohen's return to the very nebulous business of making music. He has always been completely ambivalent about the Business and its conflict with his spiritual concerns, namely finding some means of feeling part of rather than apart from. He talks about this concern in most of his Interviews.

  • who is the woman singing in that song ? i can't find a live version, is it really sharon robinson ? please help me :)

  • @Ninnykuh Yes it is Sharon Robinson

  • What a true artist , one in a million! We are privileged to be around at the same time as he is!

  • What a true artist , one in a million!

  • In short: you can't discuss filosophy with an empty stomach.

  • While the presentation is very entertaining, my opinion is that this song is not about the love between a man and a woman.

"oh Crown of Light" -> Jesus, Good, Light side of the Force, whatever you want to call it

"oh Darkened One" -> The Devil, Evil, Bad, etc..

This song is about that fight inside each one of us, and how, in the end, there's something called routine, or "Boogie Street", which is something that you need, but doesn't quite fit into a normal value scale.

  • amazing... saw him last night in florence (italy)... no words to describe it..

  • Look what you started Louis! :0 Saw LC in San Jose last Nov. This may be the best that Sharon Robinson and Leonard Cohen have done...to date, I hope.

  • Incredible!!! 10***************

  • It is great video. i cry.

"..You kiss my lips, and then you're gone:

    I’m back on Boogie Street..."

  • Леонард Коен е един от най-божествените изпълнители на времето, в което живеем! Обичам всичко, което е изпял!

  • "So come, my friends, be not afraid.

    We are so lightly here.

    It is in love that we are made;

    In love we disappear.

Tho all the maps of blood and flesh

    Are posted on the door,

Theres no one who has told us yet

    What Boogie Street is for."

  • nu raz tvoemu ziatiu tak nravitsia ...vot eshjo odna v stile thousand kisses deep---prekrasnaja ...o ulice v Novom Orleane ..red district --krasnyj rajon ...

  • Wonderful.

  • Why is there 30 seconds of silence at the end of this?

  • @shivanet, i've listened to this song countless times, many 30 seconds of silence to feel what i've just heard, and search for what it means. Listen for references to Boogie Street in A Thousand Kisses Deep

  • @shivanet : So you can meditate on the revelations sung here.

  • A very good graphic presentation.

  • czech698 blows

  • I just love Leonard Cohen, if only I could get to a concert. I remember spotting someone in the crowd in his "Live in London" DVD, holding a sign saying "Len I'm yours!", and I told my BF I wouldn't mind doing that, to which he replied, we should try it, so he could hold another one up saying "Len, she's kidding, we're both yours!" :p

  • why did you put this video up as a response to edith piaf?

  • 1A yes

  • where can i find instrumental???????

  • See his concert if you can. It will fill your heart and soul.

  • Looks like an out take version of The Book of Longing--great etchings/woodblocks. Very much in period, like my very early memories of San Francisco.

  • Did you mean to send this comment to me? I am confused.... smilin

  • It's on sort of the same topic, but I'm nodding off. I thought someone asked where they could get the instrumental--same answer. Cohen/Glass The Book of Longing.

  • Just saw him at Madison Square. Freakin' incredible. Just incredible.

  • So nice. Love this and all his songs..

  • very tasteful sound and lyrics

  • And Sharon Robinson was like silk next to him.

  • @beacode Like smoke above his shoulder.

  • He was beyond belief. Such a charisma, intelligence, you just wanna be in the same room with him.He is deep and just being a 100 % MAN now matter how old he is.

  • This was absolutely stunning last night at Mr. Cohen's Budapest's Concert:.... He is magic ... this melody diggs a hole in my soul , ) , )

  • pure spirituality..........

    amazing lyrics........

I am 62 years old and have been a follower since first hearing probably 'suzanne' some where in the sixties....what guideposts on my own merry-go- round.............

  • "So come, my friends, be not afraid.

    In love we disappear.

Tho all the maps of blood and flesh

  • I love the complete and utter sadness this song seems to radiate... magnificent.

  • We are so privilege to live at the same time with L.C

  • The problem would have been to live in a time where L.C. wasn't born..... but let's say those weren't good times on their own.... though I totally agree with you.

  • Thank you for your replay. We live in a difficult times and L.C is a little light to help us pass them

  • I discovered this song just a week ago and i really think it is one of the greatest f'n songs i have ever heard.

    I'M back on boogie street

  • god bless sharon robinson - a most under-rated singer songwriter.

  • Just about the time I think I know the LC songs I come up on something I haven't heard before. Somehow I thought this was from A Thousand Kisses Deep. Confused. God I love Leonard Cohen.

just one of my past lives impeeding on present day experience

  • thanks Alegrastar. It seems to me that the people who fall deeply into Leonard Cohen's music are usually highly creative and intellegent.

  • 90mph across Arizona at 2:00am....this album up loud..the stars ...the darkness..time slows down...Leonards voice becomes your inner voice

  • Hmmmmmmmmm...so agree with you...even though I am from Germany. But I have been there and done that and its honestly the greatest feeling. It makes me wanna go again....wanna come? :D

  • Wow! Your comment hit my soul!

  • Quite impressive and oppressive.

Thanks for posting Cronogeo, and thanks for sending LEWOOF.

  • How in the world George Michael can cover this song? He has nothing in his brain, only up his a..

  • I love this one! Thank you...joanie

  • Very nice.

  • "O Crown of Light, O Darkened One", who is "darkened one"?

Mesmorizing song, but magic starts when LC starts singing. You can't listen to his songs without reading the words along, because if you don't, then you lose the meaning.

    "It is in love that we are made;

In love we disappear." that's a truth and pure beauty in poetry.

  • like most of Cohen's songs this one is both about love and religion. In "Leonard Cohen: I'm your man" the suggestion was that this song was inspired by his time in a buddhist monastery. Especially the "back on boogie street" seems to refer to that: coming back into the mundane. The darkened one is a gnostic way of refering to god. The song is about a brief glimpse or hint of another world. Also note by the way that "crown of light, o darkened one" could be a description of a solar eclipse.

  • There also seem to be some references to Jesus, which makes sense considering 'Suzanne'.

"you kiss my lips and then you're gone"

"I'd kneel to dry your feet"

oddly enough it seems to be written from Jesus' perspective.

Anyway, it is hard to mistake the meaning of the last lines "there's no one who has told us yet what boogie street is for": the meaning of life is as of yet unclear.

I focused on the religious elements as they are less obvious, but the romantic are just as essential.

  • Cohens songs are not metaphorical: they are similies. Two concepts are compared, one as central and valid as the other.

  • Exacltly what I thought when I heard this song for the first time... It seams he is refering to the "modern" life that he is got back to after his time in the buddhist monastery... It was harder for me to "guess" what he meant by drakened one. But I think you are right by thinking he is refering to God.

  • This is inspired by Hindu Literature. the "darkened" one is Krishna, who is not Dark, But like the sky and the oceans, which are clear but will appear dark to us when we are far away or when light is scarce. If the invisible man were in a dark room, well, you get it and I'm running on.

It is such a privilege to hear his voice and words. Thank you, Leonard

  • You are 100% right. One have to listen to the lyrics very carefully in L Cohen's songs. He is a great poet. I just LOVE the part that you have written "It is in love.."

I think a lot in this song is refering to the "modern" life that he is got back to after his time in a buddhist monastery...

It is harder to "guess/understand" what he means by drakened one! But I think "captainirrelevant" must be close that it is refering to God!

Any way... Leonard Cohen is just great!

  • Unreal...definately one of my faves!!

  • Love it - thank you...

  • Superb.

  • Great video...

  • thank you , like your work as well

  • Interesting pictures. What is that type of art called?
