I hate it that Janick Gers gets Adrians solos. I love Janick as a guitar player and as a full bandmember, being the same time within the band as Adrian, but Adrians solos are based on a musical thought he wanted to realize. And Janick improvises, it doesnt fit well together trading those positions.

I think the thing people doesnt think of is how Janick always tries to play something unique, apart from Adrian and Dave who usually goes with the safe option. I play guitar myself and to try make up something new almost each time you play the song is near to impossible! But Janick pulls it of 99% of the times!Up the irons!
@SmiffySE Cool, yeah I play guitar, bass, and piano as well. I totally agree with what you said about Janick pulling off something new 99% of the time. Dave, Adrian, and Janick are all great in different ways. Dave does great at improvising always and plays fast solos. Adrian accually composes his solos, but likes to change them up a bit every time and they're very clean and smooth; plus he sings really well. And of course Janicks solos are more advanced and difficult which is awsome.

If there is someone who should have credit for that it's Steve although each and every single member who has been in Maiden, from 1975 to now, has contributed to the sound we hear today.

@DaveyMurray1 I guess u got a point. The way I see it, Adrian likes to change up the solos he composed a little bit, but its still awesome what he's doing. When it comes to leads & solos. Dave's lead fills r very melodic and clean and his solos r fast and very melodic as well. Adrian's solos r moderately fast and very melodic and clean, plus he's creative with his tapping. And Janick's solos r very technical, wild and insanely fast. All 3 guitarists r great. People need to stop hating on Janick
@ben6killer I think you need some sort of hearing aid and understand what live mixing is, you do actually turn down the sound of a guitar or two to bring the sound of another up a bit more under certain parts of the songs. Obviously this on a whole another competence level then you are on, so i don't expect you to understand and for the record, his name is Janick. I agree with Phili666, i play guitar myself and the tapping is ridiculously easy even if you're a beginner, took my a few weeks to figure it out but after that it was very easy.
To lucianopanizza, what the hell is this "use the whole arm = untechnical?", ofcourse you use your whole arm when playing unless you play a very plain and simple solo that doesn't require you to move your hand at all. It's pretty clear to me that you don't play guitar yourself, or atleast haven't done it for very long.
@jia200x But basicly what you're saying is, if you don't use your wrist you're not a good guitarist? You see, Dave, Adrian and Janick, have 3 different and unique ways of playing and that's what makes them good. A really good guitarist (or any other musician/singer for that matter) develops his own play style and thats the way you recognize them. Imagine yourself if Maiden would play after the "book", they would just be another main stream band that would be forgotten in a year or two.

Janick is indeed the faster one and plays alot more advanced stuff then both Davey and Adrian, that doesn't mean that he always play better. What most people don't seem to understand is that the "dirty" sound is not because he plays sloppy or bad, it's a big part of the Maiden sound and it's a result of his insane speed. Janick is also experimenting alot on stage, which can sometimes result in a messed up solo, but for the most part it sounds awesome! UP THE IRONS!

@INFLAMES750 I agree with almost everything, which was well said. But Janick is actually a better guitar player in many ways, all 3 just have a very different way of playing! I think the thing people doesnt think of is how Janick always tries to play something unique, apart from Adrian and Dave who usually goes with the safe option. I play guitar myself and to try make up something new almost each time you play the song is near to impossible! But Janick pulls it of 99% of the times!Up the irons!

@SmiffySE Cool, yeah I play guitar, bass, and piano as well. I totally agree with what you said about Janick pulling off something new 99% of the time. Dave, Adrian, and Janick are all great in different ways. Dave does great at improvising always and plays fast solos. Adrian accually composes his solos, but likes to change them up a bit every time and they're very clean and smooth; plus he sings really well. And of course Janicks solos are more advanced and difficult which is awsome.

@crunkalac Stop being a fanboy, there is no "owning" in Iron Maiden, only very very hard work and lots of dedication from all of the members and no, Dave is not the reason Maiden sounds this way, he is a part of it. If there is someone who should have credit for that it's Steve although each and every single member who has been in Maiden, from 1975 to now, has contributed to the sound we hear today.

@DaveyMurray1 I guess u got a point. The way I see it, Adrian likes to change up the solos he composed a little bit, but its still awesome what he's doing. When it comes to leads & solos. Dave's lead fills r very melodic and clean and his solos r fast and very melodic as well. Adrian's solos r moderately fast and very melodic and clean, plus he's creative with his tapping. And Janick's solos r very technical, wild and insanely fast. All 3 guitarists r great. People need to stop hating on Janick

@ben6killer I think you need some sort of hearing aid and understand what live mixing is, you do actually turn down the sound of a guitar or two to bring the sound of another up a bit more under certain parts of the songs. Obviously this on a whole another competence level then you are on, so i don't expect you to understand and for the record, his name is Janick. Amazing how you can get a name so terribly wrong, but you probably did it on purpose since you are a hater. Have a nice day!

@FrozenSparky I know right. He wrote lots of fantastic songs. I knew he wrote the legacy. Its amazing. I have every cd by Iron Maiden all the way from 1980 to 2010. And yes 3 guitars is killer! And everybody has a turn to express themselves.

Gers is extremley great guitar genius like Dave and Adrian and they play together as one .... it just wich style of playin do you like more... I like Dave Murrays solos and his way of playing because he has this smooth agression.

I agree with Phili666, i play guitar myself and the tapping is ridiculously easy even if you're a beginner, took my a few weeks to figure it out but after that it was very easy.
To lucianopanizza, what the hell is this "use the whole arm = untechnical?", ofcourse you use your whole arm when playing unless you play a very plain and simple solo that doesn't require you to move your hand at all. It's pretty clear to me that you don't play guitar yourself, or atleast haven't done it for very long.

@SmiffySE Compare Petrucci and Rusty Cooley. You'll see that Petrucci's picking is from the wrist, and Rusty Cooley's from the elbow.
It's obvious you can't fix your arm in the guitar and only move the wrist...

@jia200x But basicly what you're saying is, if you don't use your wrist you're not a good guitarist? You see, Dave, Adrian and Janick, have 3 different and unique ways of playing and that's what makes them good. A really good guitarist (or any other musician/singer for that matter) develops his own play style and thats the way you recognize them. Imagine yourself if Maiden would play after the "book", they would just be another main stream band that would be forgotten in a year or two.

Janick is indeed the faster one and plays alot more advanced stuff then both Davey and Adrian, that doesn't mean that he always play better. What most people don't seem to understand is that the "dirty" sound is not because he plays sloppy or bad, it's a big part of the Maiden sound and it's a result of his insane speed. Janick is also experimenting alot on stage, which can sometimes result in a messed up solo, but for the most part it sounds awesome! UP THE IRONS!
