  • You expect me to pay guys more an hour than what I make?

  • is that floppy disc slot on that device lol

  • "Mics are important." :O

  • TO make it sound like today? Brickwall limiter as hell, clipping all over. ;o) You just have to run with the loudness war. haha

  • @SaGruenwdt but how do you get it that loud without it distorting?

  • @Burkhardt0121 in fact you can't get it loud without any distorting. ;o) The trick is to optimize both, distorting and volume.

  • Don't Mean to sound like a dick But, most people can't afford 100 bucks an hour, you know?

  • @KeithMMeldrum did you even watch the video?

    :\

  • spelled mics and forums wrong

  • mate i subscribed to your channel amd then realised your not the only one posting with expert village! please could you do your own channel with just your stuff on pleeeease xx

  • my advice? get out of the music buis...get a job...and save all the money you can for reality.

  • ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..........you lost me at HOW TO MAKE......... and after that everthing just went blank to me you know your stuff

  • none of your videos helps

  • Your mic cord matters too. You forgot that often overlooked fact. I use Mogami and Blue only for mics. All other cords (even down to my HDMIs) are all premium Monster. If you are spending under $100 for your XLR cord you shouldn't be recording with it.

  • THATS SOME COO SHIT.

  • Nice Video

New minimal electro Tutorial @ my channel....check it out!!!

  • Screw pro stools!

  • @DJPaggos lol i thumb up...

  • Keep the advice coming. Great !!!

I made this with 1 PC, 1 External sound module, an old Yamaha SY99 as the midi trigger, and blackmailed my daughter's voice :-)

How much of a buzz is making music !!!!!

    youtube.com/user/tonejmaddox?feature=mhum

  • I haven't figured out from this video how to make my music sound like the Pros. "Expert" garbage

  • i love your shirt xD

  • is that a mac screensaver in a old monitor?

  • @12ikea With a mac mini right beside it!

  • This guy has a turntable and an MPC. Instantaneously I like him.

But he also gave some REAL advice. so 15 people are morons.

  • He's gonna cry! :'(

  • @IAmThinkTank cocain is one hell of a drug

  • hes got my decks lool

  • How to make my music sound like the Pros: Dont watch Expert Village.

  • @TheTweeker79 to tell u the truth this is the only vid worth watching XD

  • mikes

  • I think he has an urge to hit the crack pipe.

  • i know this due is serious about what he does because he made a cringe face when he said Guitar Center...i make the same face when i think about talking to one of those idiots..

  • Come on guys, give the guy a break. Appreciate the knowledge he is passing for free.

  • he's on drugs me thinks

  • i liked your video, i took a lot from it, seems like you have a good knowledge of mixing, i am trying to get some feedback on some new stuff i posted if you wouldn't mind checking it out the songs "Cryptic" and "Parallel" by anestheticbeats, I appreciate any feedback

  • good advice..but tell me something i dont know lol..

  • his looks shy and scared its like a gun is behind his head

  • wtf

  • so this guy is basically telling me to spend alot of money on sound engineers and equipment? wow, kinda obvious.

  • @MRxxFREESTYLE no hes saying that in todays world, if you record yourself, it is really cheap. But the fall back is that you need to learn how to do all this stuff but with practice and learning you will get better at it in time.

  • can somebody please master some vocals? professionally......its hip hop/rap vocals. I just need somebody to master the vocals and edit the acapellas as well.

  • listen to good stuff and try to emulate it or figure out how they did it. Who would have thought?? I need tons more advice like this.

  • Why the english subtitles when he's speaking perfectly good english?

  • @djlexxx What's worse is that the captions was making mistakes! It mistook "Even at Guitar Center" for "Even a guitarist", and "digitally" for "dizzily" O_o

  • i want more 4 minutes back... if u want to sound like the pros get advice from the pros....

  • HEY UM DO YOU KNOW IF putting a upc barcode on a cd mean its copyright?

    PLEASE ANSWER

  • this is one of the shitties videos I have seen by them by far.

  • Garbage

  • Comment removed

  • @jkk45 ur moms crap

  • Thanks for the tips! Appreciate it. :)

  • uh, maybe you should get someone that can actually understand what they guy is saying to do the subtitles...eg, at around 1:00 "you're doing it dizzily" should be "you're doing it digitally". and there's more mistakes too.

  • LOL at "grill of recording" some of these captions kill me- it's "guerilla recording".

  • soooooo that was worthless.

  • this guy seams like he's not really into what he's sayin'.....it seams as though some one had to talk him into doin' this u kno'..........theres better ones out there besides this character......

  • thanx man

  • If youre using cheap converters dont hit them hard, and I would never take advice from somebody at guitar center.

  • I bought this set cheapbeginner set - a Fc1 Mic. for recording vocals and guitars, and a Tube Mb - i gotten some OK recordings from it ( I'm working in Reaper- From Cockos).

the big challenge for me is how to make the vocals sound like their in front, but loud so they kill the other instruments, if you understand what i mean ?

  • this is really a great information...thanks.

  • im sic of engineers. what do they know ?? to all musicians... learn to do it your self. it will take a while but its not to difficult and you will have a better sound and be more happy for it at the end of the day. dont pay an engineer that much!!!

  • I am a musician. Engineers are really important. Because music is for people, not for other musicians.

  • @drhandstand I don't even know why all those idiots gave you a thumbs down on this. I completely agree with you. I'm a producer as well as an artist and I totally believe in doing it yourself. Because as I always say, the more you know how to do, the less money comes out of your pocket to pay someone ELSE to do it.

  • that is so far away from the truth its unreal

  • wow cool, the first 5/5 expert village video i've seen in a long time..

by the way, it'll cost you WAY more than just a few hundred dollars to use a professional studio and hire a pro engineer and producer

  • One more thing. In agreement with the man on the video. You do have to develop an ear for getting good recordings. You must develop and ear to hear distortion, to hear flat notes, to hear muddy sound, and to hear many other problems. It takes study and time.

  • For home recording, the best advice is Directional Microphones. Directional mics cut down on bad acoustical reflections and unwanted outside sound. This advice from a pro.

  • Do you recommend a preamp for vocals on the studio mic? Also, I'm not impressed with reverb in cubase. Do you recommend an external reverb device or vocal effects unit?

  • is that a "Germs" shirt?

  • well, the vid almost is a 'win'...but the captions are sooooo off. Good content, though.

  • 0:38 No Shit

  • $150/hr. at the Record Plant or Ocean Way or anything the level you are talking about - will get you a runner to go and grab you food. It will not get you studio time.

If you want to sound like a pro, you're talking several hundred per hour for the studio time. That gets you the studio and the assistant engineer that comes with the studio.

On top of that, you have to pay the engineer fees, which is going to be as much if not more than the studio fee. Know your facts before you mislead.

  • the best expert village video ive see!!!. and currently ive already seen over 20000 videos!!

  • Thx bruh

  • RODE, BLUE, Are excellent mics to use for home recording.

  • Cool :) thnx

  • wow, im amazed its an Expert Village video that i actualy find worth watching.

  • lol

  • @angie4josh HA ha ha a ha ha ha!!!!!!!!!! yeah sometimes they DONT live up to the name.

  • @angie4josh

I know, right? expert village tutorials usually aren't so great.

  • @facebkfun The majority of EV vids are crap

  • there is no real rules for mics and peaking and stuff it's about getting the right sound and using your tools properly to edting and mix ur tracks together you don't need to get the hottest signal.

  • Noone said there were rules :L

  • this dude is way smarter than that other drunk expert village guy. and regards to mcturk17, mics are important, but mixing is made easier by great recording.

it's a big mistake to say, "oh we'll just fix that in the mixing stage." you are better off shifting the mic placement and trying to get a better take than spending hours, gating, EQing and effecting your track to make it sound halfway decent. it's more about the recording than the mixing, unless you have no talent.

  • True. This guy is WAY better than that guy from "How To Make A Techno Beat" or something. Haha!

  • true lilpac down there is wrong you need good/great mics cause you and only edit the sound that is captured so if you capture shit you are only polishing shit. Ya gotta capture gold to refine it.

  • This is true! Who is this man anyway!

  • idk who the fuck it is lol

people that do the shit for them got all the equipment but they dont kno a fuckin thing bout what theyre talkin about

  • amen

i respect this guy he does make some points but it is all in the mixing

i can take vocals on a not a great mic and mix them so they sound as if i recorded them ona really good mic

  • He knows what he is talking about

  • Great advice! Thanks a lot!

I really appreciate simple down to earth advice that revolves around governing principles rather than tips & 'secrets'. It's usually the best advice there is. Thanks again

  • He seems really nervous or shy.

  • @SK8ERBoixxxx Don't mistake intelligence for nervousness. His mind more than likely thought of 10,000 words for every one he said.

  • @SK8ERBoixxxx Socially awkward.

  • yea i know i was thinking that..what is used for a peak, -2 Db on the board is what I learned in school but I dont know if thats what you really want?

  • Great idea about references.
