maybe just being pedantic but the audio samples don't time stretch or correct in any way with the tempo do they?
just the air on the kick seems to pull everything out of time... i mean the synth is great but it sounds like theres a latency problem or something and i think it's just cos of the samples being used...
can u please explain to me, the reason for making your own sequencer>???. what is the goal in mind? i mean, when u can just use any mainstream sequencer why put so much effort into a simple step sequencer???? am i missing somthing?.
i'm not the autor of this video but, in my case i did a synth and a vocoder, the first because i wanted something that did exactly what i need, not more and not less, and the vocoder just because i am a fanatic of it :), studyingt and reproducing audio effects (reverbs, vocos, delays ecc.) in max made me understand much more HOW they work and how to use the commercial ones....
because once you elaborate on it enough, it turns out to be good enough to compare to, or exceed alot of other sequencers. and making/using different things alows you to go about creating music from a different perspective. my drum machine started out similar to that, and now its better than the reason 4's ReDrum.
ur missing the actual work into wot goes into the sequencer, this dude is very creative for making his own!!! i cudnt do it, not yet anyway, im learning, :)...but the main reason is because he can make one! :D
I got a really nice sequencer up and running. The only sad thing with many software development tools out there is the lack of sample accurate timers. You can notice it in this recording too where samples are slightly off beat (I'm talking like 5 -20 ms). I think I've seen some attempts made to use an audio 'click' trigger which is supposed to get around this problem but I don't know how well it works.
Anyway, I'll post up a vid of my own when I get some screen reader software! :) Nice work
try this little chain of objects (just type them in the object and chain them):
dropfile
prepend replace
buffer~ thisbuff
You can drag/drop files from the windows explorer windows onto the patch instead of navigating with "open" or "replace" dialogue boxes... ubumenu is a way of making a drop-down for the dropfile dragged files also...
I think if you use a collection (coll) object and set up a guarded feedback loop with some sliders, you can keep track of all of the lanes of volume for each sample type individually.. I'll try this out.
good job with the vsliders for the sequencer length and display-point in time.
You'll always have some element of latency because where you've got more than one sample being triggered the event system is not sample-accurate (because of the trigger order) but you can get it pretty close (as in this vid) if you get the trigger order right. It will probably just take some rethinking.
Cool patch, I made a step sequencer for a uni project, it's quite different to yours, but looking at yours i've realised i've missed a lot of features out
My aim was not to build an overkill seq, but its not impossible to modify the sample. It was just my first useful patch so no fancy filter and other things was added. Maybe after my exams.

Wouldn't it be more interesting to use Max to make something that doesn't exist yet?

everything has to start from nothing right?

great patch!i tried to make a sequencer with buttons and delay oblect but i have a little prob with latency.Did you ever tried it?
