Abortion is a necessary option sometimes. There are many, many situations where abortion would be best for everyone. Education on sex is of major importance. I personally don't believe a child has individual rights until birth ..and we could use the stem cells from fetuses to cure and treat children and adults that are in the world today.
Why should women be enslaved in nature's way of reproducing human beings? If a girl who was raped should have the choice to make a decision to terminate her pregnancy and go against nature, why can a girls whose contraceptive method failed should not have the same choice? Is it just for women oppression? Women should always have the right to control the nature of their bodies no matter what the circumstances of how they become pregnant.
Atheists....it's funny cause at the end (of your miserable life) they say (family and medical staff - when polled) that 88% of all those who lived as proclaimed Atheistis (and were able to speak) cry out "Oh God!" or "God Help Me!" before death. Loz: Your views and opinions are very similar to my own. Freedom of choice is my only concern because like you stated there are so many variables on this issue. Medical problems, rape, incest, and the list goes on. Each individual and sometimes the family will all have to agree on the best solution. After having a family, I would hate to see any child abused because they were never wanted and the mother couldn't have an abortion because of a law forbidding it. Great topic!!!!!
I agree with the current limit in the US for abortion, though for different reasons then the it was set. The current limit was set based on the viability of the fetus outside the womb (taking into account modern incubation technology). Coincidentally the current limit is also about the time when the brain is developed enough for thought.
Carl Sagan had a good chapter on it in his last book.

Look at the right side of your keyboard.
Depending on the kind you have, there may be
the phrases "num lock" "caps lock" and "scroll lock".
Check if the light under or over "caps lock" is illuminated.
If it is, go to the left side of your keyboard and press the "caps lock"
button which may be located under tab and above shift.

Medical problems, rape, incest, and the list goes on. Each individual and sometimes the family will all have to agree on the best solution. A mother is in midday, the fetus is travelling through dawn from night to day, to life.
It is so difficult to say when really life begin. But on the other hand the mother IS 100% life.
Protecting her, means protect the fetus...
