  • 7:20.....trumpet solo....he was tired.....

  • straordinario!

  • Einfach wunderbar!

  • Thanks for sharing this recording with us. I am sure that it is a really rare stuff, and also: sounds well!

  • our school orchestra is gonna perform it next tue, and I can tell that our conductor is really frustrated of our rehearsals lately.. I understand how much presures he must have, but I really wish he can relax a little bit, and I wish everyone can practice a little bit before the concert, at least I should..

  • @Rollinavonsh Not so sure a school doing this is really the best idea..

  • are their multiple trumpets playing the solo at :32 ....?

  • @FCO0710 Yea there are. I just noticed that on my first listen. Interesting......

  • @FCO0710 Sounds like it.

  • @FCO0710 Yes ! Karajan just can't stop himself ' improving' Mahler's orchestration !

  • @FCO0710 Yes. If you listen closely, their unison note at the start at the phrase right at :32 isn't together.

  • @FCO0710 yes, unfortunately. Unnecessary

  • Tremendous recording. von Karajan is one of my favorites and no matter what (Beethoven, Mahler, Tchaikovsky, etc.) he brings artistry, class and a true air of genius to the interpretation!

  • Meh.. I guess Mahler wasn't one of Karajan's strong points, was it.

  • is it me or does the trumpet crack at 7:20 I know there's a big chance of me being wrong I was just wondering?

  • Yes, he cracks..but listen, for an entire Mahler 2, 3, 5 or 6th symphony..I would say your chances of 100% accuracy are pretty slim

  • cool

  • das soll auf meiner beerdigung laufen...

  • bravo berliner philharmoniker!

    karajan ist auch ganz ok...

  • Interesting, at 2:12 the trumpet line is above the entire orchestra. Every other recording I've heard mixes the melody/harmony at an equal volume, how unique.

  • brilliant!!

  • @Bochoff1 You are so right in defending Karajan's extremely wide and almost limitless musical range. To pigeonhole him - perhaps the greatest conductor of the 20th century - painting him in smaller box, simply does NOT speak to facts/reality.

  • Thanks for posting this video. Karajan interpretations/recordings need to be preserved and treasured as a model of greatness!

  • @TheLeonardoSaez Disculpa...hay una segunda parte?

  • Eres increible.
