This performance of the Donizetti overture is much more exciting and more animated than the more familiar 1952 commercial recording Toscanini made in Carnegie Hall for RCA Victor. It is apparently taken at a somewhat faster tempo, but there is considerable give and take in the interpretation. It benefits from RCA's experiments in high fidelity recording, using the famous NBC microphones seen in many photos to Toscanini and the NBC Symphony.
