The 590 and the Maverick 88 both chamber a 3" mag 12 gauge shell and both can be had with an eight round mag. Also, the 590 is cylinder bore while the 88 has interchangeable choke tubes. I guess my question is where do you get one gun more powerful that the other when they shoot the same damn round with the same barrel length?

The best round for home defense is 00 Buck. Military Grade Winchester 00 Buck is Great for home defense and has a 94 percent 1 shot stopping power. 1 blast is like getting hit with 9 sub machine gun rounds. it has 9 .33 Caliber in 1 shot traveling at about 1300 FPS. Very good for home defense it will stop an intruder in his tracks.
You are correct, it is target/bird shot... and in most cases 00 buck is the best for home defense. However, I don't enjoy wasting buck shot on a paper target. I have plenty of training with larger loads. This was simply a demonstration of the most likely distance in a home invasion situation, and the most likely result, one very dead perp.

what foregrip you have on it? and what brand folding stock? how much altogether if you dont mind me asking. I am looking between the 500 or the 590, I want a shotgun that is something that a guy on a tight budget can afford yet still customize it to make it look badass. I also want something to be able to easily maneuver in tight quarters for home defense
I wouldn't use a shotgun for my house defense. You shoot someone with that, they're dead! I'd use like a 9mm pistol, that wouldn't be lethal, but it would lay them down for sure! ( You don't want to kill someone in the heat of a robbery, the law suits ARE NOT worth it~1)
If you miss with the shotgun you could hurt someone else and if you DO kill someone, their relatives or friends will surely bring it to the attention of the authorities and a lawsuit may soon be made.
Even for home defense purposes, I tend to dislike the pistol grip type of configuration. For my shooting style, nothing beats a full stock on my shoulder and the strong grip that a traditional style shotgun provides. Your mileage may vary, I suppose.

i come back to the topic of shotguns as home defense guns. worst choice to make when choosing a home defense gun. a shotgun is too long for clearing corners because the person can grab the gun when you are coming around a corner before you even see them. it doesnt matter how short the barrel is, you still hit the same problem.a hand gun is the best choice for home defense. the size alone makes it perfect for hallway corners because you can hold it closer to your body when turning corners.

I see no point in having a folding stock, unless you plan on jumping out of a plane to defend your home. And the slide handle is the reason you blasted the guys shoulder off, instead of tearing his chest out.

The 590 and the Maverick 88 both chamber a 3" mag 12 gauge shell and both can be had with an eight round mag. Also, the 590 is cylinder bore while the 88 has interchangeable choke tubes. I guess my question is where do you get one gun more powerful that the other when they shoot the same damn round with the same barrel length?

@tsxws No not the gun safes im thinking about there close to 700 or 800Lbs Cant exactly fit a shotgun in a hotel style safe so i can say i have never heard personally of someone taking a entire Shotgun/rifle Safe not pistol safe and not to say its impossible just Highly unlikely especially when most safes like that are bolted to the floor so they wont tip over so it would have to be some Movie like thieves to pull it off

You can not hold down the trigger while pumping, well you can, but it won't do anything for you :)
Each time you pump the trigger is reset, thus you need to pull it again, you just have to time your pumping with your trigger pulling.

The best round for home defense is 00 Buck. Military Grade Winchester 00 Buck is Great for home defense and has a 94 percent 1 shot stopping power. 1 blast is like getting hit with 9 sub machine gun rounds. it has 9 .33 Caliber in 1 shot traveling at about 1300 FPS. Very good for home defense it will stop an intruder in his tracks.

You are correct, it is target/bird shot... and in most cases 00 buck is the best for home defense. However, I don't enjoy wasting buck shot on a paper target. I have plenty of training with larger loads. This was simply a demonstration of the most likely distance in a home invasion situation, and the most likely result, one very dead perp.

what foregrip you have on it? and what brand folding stock? how much altogether if you dont mind me asking. I am looking between the 500 or the 590, I want a shotgun that is something that a guy on a tight budget can afford yet still customize it to make it look badass. I also want something to be able to easily maneuver in tight quarters for home defense

The shotgun is a Mossberg 590A1 Special Purpose 9 shot w/bayonet lug
I paid right around $300 when I bought it, not sure what retail is now, mine was military/LE discount.

I wouldn't use a shotgun for my house defense. You shoot someone with that, they're dead! I'd use like a 9mm pistol, that wouldn't be lethal, but it would lay them down for sure! ( You don't want to kill someone in the heat of a robbery, the law suits ARE NOT worth it~1)

Even for home defense purposes, I tend to dislike the pistol grip type of configuration. For my shooting style, nothing beats a full stock on my shoulder and the strong grip that a traditional style shotgun provides. Your mileage may vary, I suppose.

i come back to the topic of shotguns as home defense guns. worst choice to make when choosing a home defense gun. a shotgun is too long for clearing corners because the person can grab the gun when you are coming around a corner before you even see them. it doesnt matter how short the barrel is, you still hit the same problem.a hand gun is the best choice for home defense. the size alone makes it perfect for hallway corners because you can hold it closer to your body when turning corners.
