@thefutureofbass haha, no not particularly hating, I thought your comments were obnoxious and that your videos (which I like by the way) didn't have much development, so your comment about the playing not being well thought out was pretty funny
@thefutureofbass no, telling someone that you 'hate hearing people rape tacomas' is hating. Telling you that your videos don't have enough progression is constructive criticism ;p
@thefutureofbass you're sounding a bit desperate buddy. You don't need to have videos up on here to have opinions. This guy has better musical ideas than you, go away and develop them or live with it
Acoustic bass guitars can have more sustain and life than that, and the Tacomas I've been around have. Perhaps it's the strings. . . Like your harmonics and playing though.
Thanks! It's just this particular video that doesn't sound the best though (recorded with a webcam mic). Check out the Part I & II videos to hear a more accurate tone (recorded with a condenser mic).
Not really. I mean, you can plug it into a compression/sustainer pedal, but I wouldn't. Sounds fine the way it is. This video doesn't show off the tone as well as the first 2 though. The audio for this one was recorded with my macbook's webcam, whereas the first 2 were done with a proper condenser mic.
I get the feeling that you're really pushing yourself -- and your instrument -- to the edge here...and it really shows (in a good way). Another great bass solo, sir. Keep them coming!
Wow. That was amazing - Do you play any other instuments? It just seems like maybe you took some of your technique from guitar styles and such - maybe it's just me. Why is the sound hole in that place? Wouldn't that minimize noise?
you would think that it minimizes sound but it doesnt, this is the only acoustic bass i have tried that can compete with more than 1 acoustic guitars without amplification
Thanks. I don't really play any other instruments. Not seriously anyways. But I take my technique from anything. Guitar players, piano players, sax players. Anyone who's an inspiration to me. The position of the soundhole has something to do with the unique bracing system that Tacoma uses. I don't know much about the physics behind it, but Tacoma definitely makes one of the best sounding and loudest acoustic basses on the market :)
Wow. i think you're amazing. I've been playing piano for 11 years seriously (I'm 15 today) and I've never grasped the concept of impovisational playing - i guess i have to dig into my technique a little more... Check out my vids?
your an inspiration to me, i wish you would put out tutorial, because there are no tabs on the stuff you play, for example battery and master of puppets, you play the guitar parts on bass, could you show or tell where/how you learn to play these song?
Thanks. I learn that stuff just by listening to the original song and figuring out how to play it by ear. Takes a lot of work to train your ear, but eventually you can just listen to things and know how to play them without even having an instrument in your hands. Start with something easier and then gradually build up to more difficult songs. It's always a work in progress!
Yeah, it's a little buzzy. Partly from the low-tension strings / setup, and partly from me playing a little harder than usual to get some acoustic volume for the recording.
i soooo want a acoustic bass

Was it made to have less sustain? Or is it a defect?
SuperMetalHead13 2 years ago
Neither. That's just the way acoustic basses are. They don't have too much natural sustain.
GBagley 2 years ago
are there any pedals for acoustic basses to add sustain?

it's a shame this bass has such short sustain, your playing deserves it!
bhuygen 2 years ago
Meh. You can only get so much sustain out of an acoustic bass. I have a Modulus VJ (graphite neck) electric that has some crazy long sustain though!

How much did ur bass cost? I really need a lefty acoustic
imtherooster713 2 years ago
I think this one was around $650 or so, used (with a repaired crack in the back). Don't know if I've ever seen a lefty Tacoma though.
