@maddymud I apologize for sounding mean, but dubstep is in 3/4 time, and in my opinion, sounds quite a bit different to this. This is more post-punk or new wave.
@DJCoaltzilla -- no worries. but not all dubstep is 3/4. Also -- there's heavy electronica in this DEVO song, plus it's slightly distorted and blarring. One of the hallmarks of dubstep. Not really new wave at all (when you think of it's marching cadence vs. true new wave like Blondie, Talking Heads, etc.).
@maddymud What makes you think theres some kind of "template" or "standard" for a term as abstract as New Wave.
And what in the name of fuck makes you think such a thing is represented by American band(s)? As long as Devo is not "true New Wave", definitely stop looking in US and start looking in UK or Germany (anything but US really) :P
However IMHO Devo is as new-wave as it gets, theres not quite anything that interferes with its new-waveness

And then you get the interview with the bands where they say "we're not that at all!" New Wave is not so abstract that it defies classification. It's a music genre just like many others. Get over your New Wavey-gravy and understand that among many things that tip things Nuevo Wave or Un-wave are things like cadence, etc.
@westgoten Yeah, I'm afraid to say I did laugh when I saw them in their Energy Domes & jumpsuits - so cool back then but just don't work with bald heads & pot bellies! Just like I can't get away with leggings & tunics, DMs or short spiky hair! (Are we not (wo)men? Yeah, old ones....)
