@azjc04 Shut up with your taxes. Paying your taxes will not help you or the government when the whole economic system is rigged. Clearly you don't understand shit but you insist on spreading misinformation, abusive conclusions. Go inform yourself about public debt and check the 123 article of the Lisbon Treaty. You stupid fuck

@azjc04 And yet you still don't get it. Faster pace, maybe. But that is what Greece needs. To exit the eurozone, go back to the drachma, being left alone to build a strong industry and exploit the oil in the mediterranean sea. But you don't understand that in this case, paying your income tax won't change ANYTHING because Greece is PROGRAMMED to default. There is NO way out with the current system.
*Repeat* I don't care (again) what you think is right or wrong with the system over there. I'm simply stating (as I have 5-6 times, already) that tax evasion is part of the problem and is magnified by government overspending. That is a simple statement that you're spinning into something I am not even referring to.
Greece loses out on 20.5 BILLION a year because of people not paying their taxes. If you don't think that affects debt, then you're intentionally being ignorant.
So, AGAIN.. Tax evasion is a big part of the problem, because that's one reason why the country ran out of money in the first place. THAT was my original and only point.
Throw in government overspending and problems arise.
Keep in mind that debt is actually good for DEVELOPED countries. Developed countries can borrow money for cheap if it is shown that it can be paid back. Greece can't pay back anything now, and losing 20.5 billion a year tax evasion is one reason for that.
@azjc04 1) It MIGHT have been 20,2 billion in 2011 (some say it's about 13 billion...). It wasn't like that before. So you got it backwards, because the economical crisis that created this mess made SOME people stop paying their taxes. Again, even if there was real tax evasion, it would be the last cause for this mess
2) In 2010 Greek tax revenue was 39.5% of GDP (it is enormous). In the UK, for example, it was 25% "only". Tax evasion in Greece is just like everywhere else: only for rich people
It's an estimate, but one that is still in the BILLIONS. My bullet-points only had 4 actual events:
Spending more than taking in
Tax evasion
Loans
Debt sold to other countries
Tax evasion actually permeates any Greece economy timeline. Remember when the European Union initially refused to let Greece join in on the euro, because their debts and inflation were so high? Evasion was part of that, too.
There is a reason why media calls it a "national pastime" in Greece.
@azjc04 3) Of course you have to speak about the system that is rigged to get the whole picture of this "crisis", you dumb retard. It is not about right or wrong, it is cause/consequence. 4) A "layman version"? Get out of here. "Retarded oversimplified and not even on point version" would be better. Why? Because you forget the people who INTENTIONALLY made the wrong decisions, you forget the people who prevent the Greeks to have a solid economy. And I don't see what you are trying to prove here
Nothing is rigged about paying taxes. You either do, or you don't. Many in Greece don't. If you want to argue that the rate is too high; go for it. I haven't offered any opinion on what is or isn't fair in Greece with regard to rates.
What I have stated (8 times now?) is that tax evasion adds to the problem in a big way, ESPECIALLY WHEN GOVERNMENT OVERSPENDING IS AN ISSUE.
I don't care what you think is FAIR. I refer to the ORIGINAL, simple statement I made above.
@azjc04 Anyway you will soon understand what I say when your own country will be a mess. Mass media try to make Greece look like the Trojan Horse of Europe and make greeks look like lazy bastards when it is proven that the average greek works more than any other european. Greece will get back on feet because Greece has 15 000 year old roots. This is nothing, as soon as we exit the eurozone and WW3 is over, we will be standing. If you shut up we will forgive you for your stupidity LOL
I could link 100+ articles that show tax evasion is PART of the problem. Also, I think you should read that article again... The title is a bit misleading to the actual content. He is opposing the article that says tax evasion is the BIGGEST problem. He is not saying that tax evasion isn't a problem at all.
Mitchell is also a libertarian, so it's no surprise he sympathizes with people who say rates are too high.
Paying taxes (or not) is NOT part of the problem, except for rich people that seem to always have the law on their side (but in any case, this is clearly not a greek exception). Because this money doesn't even go to the government's pockets, it goes straightforward to the private bankers! You don't seem to understand AT ALL!
@azjc04 Wow. I am stunned to see such stupidity and misinformation. Go read how Goldman Sachs and all those fucking banksters robbed Greece. Go read about the 81 billions of $ that Germany owes to Greece from compensation from WWII (Greece is the only European country which didn't receive any compensation, whereas Greece fought and suffered more than France and England altogether). People KNOW from 1987 that there is oil in Greece, but USA and the globalists never allowed Greece to extract it.
@azjc04 There are millions of other examples that could show you how Greece was sodomized by so-called Europe, how greek people were governed by pure bastards (who are mere puppets of the global elite). Inform yourself before exposing your stupidity on the internet, this world is falling into pieces RIGHT NOW, the New World Order is about to come, you don't seem to understand what is going on these days in our world.
@azjc04 Inform yourself about 9/11 (I DARE you to watch conspirationnist videos and still conclude that the official version is the truth), inform yourself about the NWO, about Monsanto, Haarp, etc. It is crucial, for this is your last chance to be prepared for the upcoming hard days. When you'll see communism being brought up as the solution to this chaos, you will know I was right. Don't follow them. Peace
@azjc04 i saw some other comments you wrote and the conclusion is that you think that this problem was caused mostly by people who didn't pay their taxes! open your eyes and try to see the whole picture. the dept is HUGE, and if tax invasion was the main reason that would mean that all greeks were millioners! come on man, be serious. and if i am right, you come frome the US. so, seriously, you got the nerve to judge other countries' governments and citizens? SERIOUSLY???
Tax evasion costs Greece $20 billion per year. Many of your wealthy people under-report their income. And, if you actually read my replies, you would have seen this:
"Couple that with GOVERNMENT OVERSPENDING, and it's a recipe for disaster."
@azjc04 but even if you are a european, this video is about people who fight for their believes and rights and you should at least respect that. we put our heads on the lines during these protests, and trust me, being beat up by cops is the least that can happen. if you want to do an economical analysis you should better do it on the corresponding video. peace and solidarity

obviously the minority start the trouble? their union leaders behind this terrorism...like cowards...no brainers just joined them...this pension scheme, union benefits...just dont match up their country income...lazy yet greedy!!!!
@salvodistefano yes they are supposed to be CIVIL CERVANTS that is why this is so crazy. They need to default. Every Greek knows its going to be really tough for atleast 5 years to come. But you need to pull together and help each other..not kill the people and rob them from the last dignity they have
The fact is that if our government hadn't lead Greece to this situation, choices like these would never been taken..Now we choose around the options of "nothing" or "something above nothing"...
I dont understand... if given the power to make the choice: austerity measures or NOT, would the rioters chose differently or what???? THe government don't like doing this, its the least shit choice they can make...
@benwebb93 Austerity is the worst option..it looks like its good..but the conditions are the same as you lending even more money to pay off other loans..how is that better? atleast when they default, they will still have to impose severe cuts etc, but now they can clear house, rethink their spending, tax system everything, they will not get loans, so they have to be creative..all of this hardship will create a better and sound economy..and in a few years they say FU to Europe
Capitalism is growing bigger and bigger in this world.Greece is a poor country and the only chance to survive is the well-known economical help..We dont diserve it,but we will appreciate it.Democracy was found in ancient Greece and that's a fact we are proud of.!But now Democracy is dead in this country. The most important thing is to bring it "back to life".That's our only way out the crisis..
Well, things in my country were going wrong all over the time since many years ago.Political scandals, many social problems and of course, the Greek mind-set.I am 18 yo and i see no future in this country. But i have the RIGHT to dream,to hope,to live..I am paying now other people's faults. Why I have to pay them?"WE" as a country, need a good lesson so to dont make the same mistakes again.I bestow my hopes now to Merkel's economic help.Dont blame all Greeks for that situation.A part
Sorry guys, but the greek patient needs now strong medicine, and strong medicine tastes sometimes bitter. Why should the rest of the Euro zone pay the bill for your country ?
Police brutallity is the weapon of german capitalist cowards !! Burn Germany! You Nazis Barbarian are the creators of 2 World Wars and responsable for 6 million dead jews! *** People of Greece you've showed the World you are heroes! We all must resist and fight! Regards from PORTUGAL!
@Lavalambtron i'd call you stupid for your comment but i aknowledge that your media confuses you every day,so it's not your fault. You see, there was never a debt.People were never overpaid, not even paid enough to fulfill the normal dreams in life. It's those poolititians that stole so fucking much from everything and they want the people to pay!I mean,ok steal but no,they just had to go to a casino and bet the national fund.
&instead of paying they continue to make fortunes even now!
@pomakos21 Ok so the politicians that asked for huge loans to please their electorate to help them stay in power should pay the debt somehow, and also the banks which provided unlimited quasi free money should be held accountable too.
@Lavalambtron no i think that it's not that simple..You see Greece is a place of great natural resourses.Greece is also a place that polititians can literally sell everything,at a the right price. These "agreements" with the E.U are completely illegal, but most of the polititians are geting paid to say yes when there is a voting about turning us into Thailand or something and the few that say no,are blackmailed.So..what did you expect?Everybody could get
@Lavalambtron a piece!Merquel,the banks,all E.U polititians,other nations..The level of traitory here is so high,that i could write an essay about it!It's just sad..I mean..Can you live with 500$ per month?Just to rent a shity house costs 300$
@pomakos21 i feel your pain. Last decade or so in Portugal, they took our agriculture, fishing, and now look to ruin industry in general. A small apartment is 350 and minimum wage is still at about 500.
Same shit goes on in Ireland, they are to pay billions to defunct banks, just to feed the ECB: /watch?v=HAf7J4a_T1g
And then they expect ya not to believe in the NWO shit. We are all being pushed to a breaking point where everyone will have to resort to them and their new currency.
@pomakos21 You are the craddle of western civilization, so deep down everyone admires you and is watching you. What puzzles me is how a country of great thinkers now resorts to breaking stuff to try and solve its problems.
@Lavalambtron this country of great thinkers collapsed many years before..even before ww1,at every generation polititians managed to get the rich richer & the poor poorer. So they succeded to transform us to closed minded dum farmers. It seems simple to you to ellect new ones cause in America polititians get punished for what they do.Here the laws are protecting the polititians in every way.For example it's prohibited by law to go to jail..they should just leave.Who needs them anyway
This will be the streets of America, the UK, Canada, Japan, Australia and everyone else soon enough.
I hope you fucking sheep know how to make a Molotov, know how to protect yourself from Tear Gas and know how to fight and survive, because you are all in for the wake-up call of a fucking life time when your government inevitably decides that it will not pay you a pension, not honor your savings, will reduce your standard of living to fucking Africa & will make you economic slaves to the bankers
If any African nation was part of the European Union (which couldn't happen 'cause it would be an African nation) and was in the situation that Greece is in now, the world would be saying and blaming that African country for Europe's economic meltdown.
these MAT(like swat in america) THEY THROWED A TEAR GAS AT MY DADS FACE!! AND HE IS AT HOSPITAL NOW... HE ALSO BEEN HIT BY THEM... I DONT KNOW IF HE IS GONNA GET OUT OF THE HOSPITAL YET...
The greeks have been living like kings off EU money for the last 10 years, fucking go to greece and tell me about their third world lives, wait, they aren't in the third world, they are fucking ritch. All of greece's neighboors know that by now, the greeks are ritch as shit but won't pay taxes, that's why their goverment is poor as fuck, now when the EU wants their money back they just start flinging shit and going "ITS THE GOVERMENT"S FAULT YOU GUYSE" bullshit, pay your taxes you cunts.
Was does someone bold enough with a sniper rifle pick a few police off, at the least wound them so that they get the hell out of the way of the people who should have all the power .
I don't understand how anybody is explaining this as an anti-capitalist movement when the riots are a result of a very, very anti-capitalist economic model gone wrong (Which is the direction many similar nations are taking, and if left unchanged, this will happen all over Europe).
In any event, my heart goes out to those in Greece, regardless of the cause, this is a pretty terrible turn of events, and I hope people in the US/rest of the EU start to take a similar stance to you all.
I can't believe the comments I'm seeing. Here's how it really is, for the idiots that are just writing made up shit. Previous greek governments have made crazy promises just to win elections. Like for example free student's books. In the rest of the balkans we couldn't even dream of the lives greek people we're living before the protests. Of course with policies like this one money runs out. Nobody stole money from you for fucks sake. Get used to living shitty lives like the rest of us :)
We are in debt trying to pay all the money our politicians stole from us. How do politicians and bankers own 300,000 euros of yachts and have villas in the islands while we try to live with a 800 euro salary. ASSHOLES and on top of that we have Europe trying to ridicule us and call us bankrupt.. but its ok we'll get through it as long as God is with us
@MELITIx05 The other funny thing is that some say that Greeks are lazy...yet the average Greek works 40.6 hours per week while the average other Europeans work 36 hours per week....what the hell is going on here?????!!!!!
Don't be fooled by market economics. keep living your life with dignity and the way you WANT to live your life.
Greece is a great country - and don't let the greedy and money obsessed spoil your existence. how could greece be "bankrupt" in a country full of priceless treasures?
these shareholders and market traders know the price of everything and the value of nothing - but as we will shortly see - their shallow and toxic paradigm will fade away into dust.
@zamycast unfortunately this kind of police is very well paid, their only job is to beat up people and usually their ejucation stops at 17 years old. They just train them afterwards. They learn that they have total power of everything and to obey to the superior and follow orders without thinking if it's right or wrong.I'm talking about most of them ofcourse. There are always 1-2 that try to help people when they can.And that's why these 1-2 are called policemen and not cops.

Here is a layman version of the issue listed in order of events:
- Greece spent more money than it took in
- After switching to the euro, wages rose to unsustainable levels
- Retirement age is low and benefits generous
- Widespread tax evasion limits revenue
- Money ran out, so Greece went to European banks for loans worth billions and billions
- Those debts were restructured as commodities and sold to other countries in order to make money off of Greece debt.
- Greece in trouble

azjc04 11 hours ago

There is a reason why media calls it a "national pastime" in Greece.
azjc04 10 hours ago
@azjc04 3) Of course you have to speak about the system that is rigged to get the whole picture of this "crisis", you dumb retard. It is not about right or wrong, it is cause/consequence. 4) A "layman version"? Get out of here. "Retarded oversimplified and not even on point version" would be better. Why? Because you forget the people who INTENTIONALLY made the wrong decisions, you forget the people who prevent the Greeks to have a solid economy. And I don't see what you are trying to prove here
guitarvass7 10 hours ago

@guitarvass7
I refer to the ORIGINAL, simple statement I made above.
azjc04 9 hours ago

Mitchell is also a libertarian, so it's no surprise he sympathizes with people who say rates are too high.
azjc04 9 hours ago
@azjc04
Go watch "Money as Debt II" from Paul Grignon
guitarvass7 11 hours ago
@azjc04 Wow. I am stunned to see such stupidity and misinformation. Go read how Goldman Sachs and all those fucking banksters robbed Greece. Go read about the 81 billions of $ that Germany owes to Greece from compensation from WWII (Greece is the only European country which didn't receive any compensation, whereas Greece fought and suffered more than France and England altogether). People KNOW from 1987 that there is oil in Greece, but USA and the globalists never allowed Greece to extract it.

"Couple that with GOVERNMENT OVERSPENDING, and it's a recipe for disaster."
