  • Your vid is popular on Honduras

  • why so many people hate the lynx i think its much better than the gameboy

  • ATARI NEEDS TO MEET APPLE AND MAKE THE BEST GAMING SYSTEM.

  • The Atari Lynx, the only 45 pound portable gaming device.

  • OMG! That could fit in my pocket!

If my pocket were the size of a glove compartment!

Honestly that wouldn't fit in my fanny pack from back then.

How much diesel did the lynx require?

  • These commercials are disturbing.

  • holy crap an ipad

  • Atari Lynx is fun....as long as you have the AC adapter, obviously.

  • @MattTheSaiyan come on the nomad was better

  • @supercrapnstuff11 Well, yes, the Nomad is better. Sega Nomad is one of those things that isn't really useful or practical but is so cool it doesn't matter. Regardless, Lynx did have a fairly decent game library (with less ports than Game Gear) and with an AC adapter is reasonably enjoyable.

  • So many nerds defend this thing because it had great sound. WOW. It was the size of a fucking SUV and had graphics worse than the game gear.

  • @BabyWetsAllNight doesn't matter, it was Atari, which had a huge fan base in the States, and it was out before game gear.

  • the atari lynx was even more powerfull then the genesis and snes,a good example is that polygonal games on those home consoles reqquired a extra chip whereass the lynx can do that without a extra chip,it ran of a 16mhz proccesor .

had 4 8bit dpcm soundchannels,in short it was mega ahead of it,s time,it was like science fiction,a handheld from the 21 century.

  • 16-bit handheld my ass looks more 8 bit then 16 bit the neo geo pocket Color was 16 bit and was better and that ran on a 8 bit processor

  • I think it's likely hand held consoles will remain about the same size as they are now, except they will be more powerful and will have PS3 and X Box 360 graphics.

  • "Atari Lynx, the portable video arcade" my white ass!!!!!

  • Looks like 3DS wasn't the first console to kill someone.

  • It failed to mention 2 things.

1.Its about as portable as a small tank.

2.The screen is so damn bright its impossible to see anything. Its just a blurr.Might as well be black-and-white.

  • it was the size as a brick

  • I understand that this product is more advanced than the Gameboy, but c'mon, people. That thing is huge!

  • WHY was the device bigger than the atari game console but the screen is like 2 inches.

  • @jayjacobson14

If you have to ask then you wouldn't understand.

  • 20 years from now people will be laughing at the psp calling it a fricken huge brick..lol

  • @tom11zz884 Some people already do now, since the PSP GO came out

  • Wow...I don't EVER remember hearing anything about this until I saw it in a video game magazine or like saw it on a Funcoland game prices sheet or something...I never saw a commercial for this OR the Atari Jaguar before...

  • hahahaha

  • I had one of these, and my mom took it away and i never got it back. she still denies that fact. it pisses me off.

  • you still mad at your mom over that...lol

    What a rotten mom

  • Sad I know, but if it wasn't for this we would never have NDS or PSP... My mate had one of these as a kid, it cost a fortune.. and it was the dogs when it was launched, thebest graphics and sound available and when you think TV's weighed half a ton back then, it was quite an innovation! Listen to me, I sound like my dad....

  • what game is that kid playing at 0:16?

  • Electrocop, I'd say.

  • How much was this?

  • I still have two. They work fine.

  • my god and i thought the gameboy original was a large console..

  • lynx was as portable as brick.

  • literally!

  • @JURPO90 and makes a great anti-theft device as well. Just smack somebody upside the head with it.

  • @WebVMan nah, it was made out of plastic which would probably break if you hit someone on the head with it. its as big as a big brick and heavy but not as hard.

  • yeah beacuse every game you play probably should injure you or leave you a snoking skeleton,

  • The second commercial should have had a second kid from off camera walk over and go "hey eric, that's a rad skateboard you got there" and then the kid holding the lynx goes "no way dude this is an ATARI LYNX!" ...and then he successfully uses it as a means to defend himself from a mugger by clubbing him over the head with it

  • that's good, i like that.

  • @RobbyToxic What is your problem?

  • @NGMan62 His problem was he loves the Atari lynx so much

  • My fucking god wtf is this shit!@!

  • remember buying one of these when they first hit the shops .....top notch

  • In what world is Atari Lynx is not far better than the Jaguar?

I remember the first time I saw Jaguar runing, why the heck would they make Jaguar if you could run Double Dragon on Lynx.

Portable video arcade my ass they should kept this in the hand held consoles market and invest on reserches for better ways of saving power.

It was quite promising, was evolging fine, LYNX II was smaller, cartidges were too extensive though.

Atari always had a thing with arcades, I gess is for the A maybe.

  • 0:05 looks like they are playing with their massive penises lol

  • OMG ITS FUCKING HUUUUGE!!! but that's cool.... :)

  • Great footage! Thanks for putting that on.

  • handhelds have come a long way

  • turbo express was just as good

  • Lol, how big is this thing

  • thats bigger than a wii!

it has better graphics though so not bad

  • ROFL.

  • Actually, he's spot on. It wasn't a terrible system, but it was a beast and drained battery life like water squeezed out of a towel.

  • Well this was like 15-20 years ago give it some credit...

  • thats the most violent videogame add i´ve ever seen.

  • Can't wait 'til they come out with the Atari Lynx Slim.

  • yeah, this improved system will only weigh 8 kg!

  • yea but what about the battery life ?

  • You could kill people with that thing!

  • lynx is a sorry motherfucker. The batteries would only last an hour was i had it.

  • i used hav this and a game boy and a game gear but they all broke

  • It was made by Atari,in those days Atari was like SEGA when Saturn was released

And GameBoy had Tetris and marketing. GameGear had Sonic at least

  • I love this handheld!!! I play mine to death!

  • good graphics

  • I have a gameboy and gamegear but I neeed that!! Graphics were 16 bit!

  • Strange that this system didn't take over, must be because of Mario. I can't think of another reason. Saying it's too big is a cop-out. Saying Sega Game gear had better games, doesn't explain why Gameboy still dominated. It has to be Mario. Even though Nomad came out much later, it is the best. You can plug it staight into a TV. YEAH!

  • cause the games were better on gameboy. (I hate to say) They had mario, metroid, castelvania, tetris, any of the mario knock offs (kirby) dk and more...game gear had sonic, atari had...well I remember some booger game where the charater explored a snot world and a blob game where you fed the blob jellybeans...atari had awesome games!!

  • I can argue that Sega had the better games, but I cannot argue that Sega has better games in plenty than Nintendo. Nintendo has quite an arsenal of characters however, before Kirby or Zelda or Metroid, Nintendo was just the "Game and watch" and Mario people with a history of designing Card games. Sega has the design history of Many video game Creatures and game designs they never took for the long hall like Nintendo. I like nintendo better now because they are like the SEGA I once knew.

  • Look at the size of it...

    Hand held???

    For King Kong maybe..

  • rofl

  • was the intro really worth it? the little pink background crap..

    1/5.

  • oh damn its been so long my dad use to work for atari and he gave me and my siblings one.the game i remember was paper boy and slime

  • LONG LIVE THE EIGHTIES!!!!!!!!!

  • HOLY CARP BATMAN THT THING IS HUGE!!!

  • wow huge thing! was there a special bag for it? lol

  • ROBOTRON!!!!... great game, and great memories!! :(

  • Cheese! look the Lynx is Bigges WTF? i am prefert the game boy.

  • Was that the psp?

    lol

  • Lynx was awesome for car trips!

  • This was an advanced system for it's time, the graphics and sound were miles ahead of anything on the Game Gear and original Gameboy.

  • and gameboy color. The Lynx was an awesome design in those days and i still love to play a game on it now and then.

  • that's massive! i've seen the redesigned version at a pawn dealer before, and even that one was huge!

  • O_o Its huge! never saw the actual sixe of an atari Lynx util i saw this video.

  • PSP is the new Lynx and Gamegear. Damn the Lynx is fucking HUGEEEE. Bigger than Gamegear. I thought the PSP was fucking big compared to the Gameboy Micro, but this? This is a fucking table. Surprisingly though, it can still fit in your pocket.

  • Wow... um... yes, very realistic sound quality. Those are some great bleeps and bloops. Also, I'm pretty sure there's some subliminal advertising during 00:04-00:06 by the way those boys are holding their "portables".

  • you should have heard the game Klaxx for the Lynx then you would know the Lynx was capable of doing realistic sounds.

  • dammed ,ve missing out that great day of gaming, but if i looking back for what i was missing all the time of videogames , than ,m understand why everybody talking about that great day of gaming etc,, in the late 70,s begin 80,s my first experience with videogames starts in 1991 with the nes and in 1992/94 i was playing on the sega md and the snes by my cousing,s and i dit also wanted a 16bit but my parrends were striking me in that day.

  • Man, that thing is huge. I owned both versions, the first model & the re-release which was smaller & in stereo (sold my original to my friend... sucker!). I got my years usage out of it. Never caught on like Gameboy did... but the variety of games varied from horrible to awesome to arcade-perfect.

The color-limit was probably the biggest downfall.

  • portable, my ass...i have this and the game gear...they both sucked to take with the batteries died in no time

  • good luck putting that in your pocket

  • Hi it is about 20 years old and was filmed in london. could you please let me know where you found this commercial, many thanks

  • lol it's gigantic compared to the handhelds today. The good old days

  • I heard it would chew 6 AA batteries in an hour, damn!!!

And with a size that big, how can you fit that in your pocket?!!!

  • hahaha

  • It was sold as portable, not pocket. And it didn't chew 6 aa's in an hour, but it was a thirsty beast though.

  • shit..that looks bigger than the mini ps2

  • Atari Lynx. Great system that never got a fair shake.

  • I love my Atari Lynx :) ... Thanks for uploading this...

  • Shut up with your gp2x

  • Shut up with your non-sense, most of the consoles and handhelds emulated on GP2X play much better than they were on the original system.

    GP2X for life!

  • NINTENDO DS AND PSP FOR LIFE

  • You make it sound like a sentence, are they that bad?;)

  • No emulator is better than the real hardware. Emulators are cool though and the GP2X is an excellent piece of hardware.

  • Atari Lynx emulated on another handheld system (gp2x) so it reamins portable!
