I love the old Spider-Man books that he did. There's a biography out on Steve Ditko called Strange and Stranger. If you want more information see my review of the book on squidoo by searching under the phrase ''Strange and Stranger.''
That was the Showcase issue 106 that never appeared in print. It did get printed in the B&W Cancelled Comics Cavalcade which only a select few received and lots of money on ebay. It might be printed in the Creeper book coming out this year?
I think Mr. Ditko has moved on from Spider-Man. When I met him, he told me that was something he did 50 years ago and that he's living in the now. Mr. Ditko is a gentleman and a very down to earth person. It was a honor to shake his hand and express my gratitude for the inspiration his work inspires. The art, as always, speaks for him.
Read tales To Astonish a book by Ronin Ro,it's mainly about Jack Kirby, but it says that Stan Lee took credit for creating most everything when in fact he did not.Spiderman was an idea that Simon and Kirby had back in the 50's.Stan took the name and the concept of the orphan kid, but it was Steve who came up with the costume and the idea of webshooters. He left because he got tired of co-plotting issues he never recieved compensation for.
Absolutley. However, if u look at his work, u can see he wrote from his life. You can see it in the facial expressions and the why the character composure is. example, betty bryant looks surprisingly like flow steinberg, the marvel secretary from the 60's. maybe ditko had a thing for her?
Totally agree. I think he did. The book shouldn't be called the Amazing Spider-Man. It should have been called the Amazing Steve Ditko. Its so obvious.
Mr. Ditko is a man of principal. The face that he hasn't made million on spider is a testimont to the fact. His work is intricate and personal. Bravo!
Thanks for the comment. It might be the software that creates the slideshow. While some are a slight affect some as a Mr.A. scan came out a little dark.

Cool! Is Steve Ditko Jewish, anyone? I am merely curious as his name sounds unusual.

Ditko created Spiderman and Stan the Jew as usual stole it.

I always loved Romita Sr.'s version of Spidey but nothing beats the original, Ditko rules!

I don't think Ditko get's the credit he deserves for helping create Spider-man.
He was the artist who created the look of
Spider-man's most famous Villains.

Ditko was comics' first abstract artist. He just stood out.

Who could say? To this day he still might have something for her. She was pretty then. She's somebody's grandmother now.

I really enjoyed this a lot as I covet my old issues of Charlton Comics (my entire collection, for that matter), but why are the photos so blurry?
Still, it was nice to see some of these again!
