Thanks for the video, but in my opinion what you're talking about aren't riffs but rather licks. Riff comes from the term rhythmic figure, and part of that is their looping nature (i.e. they hold together when repeated). Licks are musical ideas that are best applied when played through once, which is what you were demonstrating (in my opinion). Anyways, useful video, thanks for posting it.
I just found John here. This guy is perfect for the "rut" I've been in lately. I sit down to record and pffff! I draw a blank. I've played for a long time. Some days I just run out of ideas. He's really got some good points. Yesterday, I couldn't get away from the dang scales to save my life. Great videos for players of all skills and ages. (I'm 41.... playing for most my life, and sometimes ya can't tell it! :)
I totally agree. Having some get on my case would be a big help! =]
Trying to learn on your own is kinda patchy as well, you learn a 'bit of this and a bit of that', but you don't really know what direction you should take, where to start or what you are aiming for.
Although at first you think those things might be quite simple, it doesn't take you long to get lost and a bit confused.
my friend gets lessons, and i find out what he learns every lesson, then kind of hide away for a bit and teach myself that subject, and 9 times out of 10, i've learnt it quicker than him. depends how you learn really.
iv been playing for about a year now and have found your vids really useful, they have made me realise just how much i dont know! i have learn a quite lot from your vids but i realise i need to get to 1 to 1 lesons if i ever want to be able to play well.
Yeah as much as a lot of these instructional vids are nice, there's nothing like having a in person instructor to interact with and get on your case if you haven't been doing your homework.
been playing for 4 years and fortunately for me im a good self learner because there are no qualified guitar players that actually teach where i live =[
i dont get why the numbers are backwards on the tabs

@johnhguitar
You don't have to apologise, nobody knows everything there is to know about guitar playing we're all learning, just thought I'd point it out.
