  • hi there, i admire your rig, how can i get one of those or something similar?

  • @Liline717 All the information is in the video - and the links are in the video description. Use google to search the names of anything else. B&H Photo is a great place to order video gear.

  • I ended up getting the Juicedlink DS214 for my Canon T3i mainly to monitor audio and because the preamps on the Canon stink. Magic Lantern wont let you monitor audio on a T3i yet so it doesn't solve my problem. And the MP3 hack is lame. I have manual audio control on T3i so I crank the audio down to 1 click and then use JL combined with Rode Video Mic Pro or my wireless lavalier system. My audio is now clean. I also have the option to run dual audio and combine my shotgun and lav system!

  • Is that a splitter your using on the 214 to get the g3 & VMP into the JL?

  • @lakestatefishing Yes that puts them in to the left & right channels for complete separation, and easy editing in post.

  • cool : )

  • You should do a review of the ART Tube MP - Its 40$ and claims it does 70db of preamp...or just let me know your opinion on it, I don't want to spend over 100 bucks to get my already 600$ audio set up (Zoom H4n + Rode NTG-2) to work halfway descent!

  • @Cloujus Trust me, ART is not the way to go if you want clean audio for vdeo. You have to budget in a real preamp if you want pro sound. The Sound Devices MixPre-D is the only way to go. But if you want to experiment with the ART, it will only be a loss of 40 bucks! But I won't be buying an ART just to test what I already know.

  • @ChadWork1 sounds good my friend, thank you. Guess I will have to work that in to the budget lol...buy one thing and you need something else to make it work good...sad for someone on a budget

  • So funny. Hope you don't get served a dish of "get away from me" too often! :-)

  • Excellent info.

Gina's great! Love her down to earth attitude.

  • You know what? There is no much diference betwen using one of this or beachtek as using a simple $2 xlr to stero adaptor, the only difference is $180 and I used all three.

In my opinion, a piece of junk, and if u need AGC disable, just use Magic lantern, is free.

  • @hotgypsylips You know what? The Beachtek, and a $2 adapter do not provide any gain. That's why the Beachtek is a "mixer".These provide 16db of gain, which is what you want in order to increase your signal to noise ratio when working with DSLRs.That's why the JuicedLink is a "preamp". So that's the big difference. Your opinion is wrong. If you want something more I would check out the Sound Devices MixPre-D, with 60db of gain, and limiters.

  • Mate, you need to get some flowers and take your missus for dinner.

  • @hotgypsylips You have a point there man... I never cook!

  • thanks for making this chad, i found it helpful and informative

  • @fibbernacci Right on! You must treat your audio well. It's more than half of the story with video.

  • but you can walk freely around with dedicated vid and film cameras. You shoulder them and away you go. Excellent. regardless of accessories for it, as least you place it on your shoulders and shoot in comfort

  • i own a 5d, but really, to set the audio is getting ridiculous. It will never replace a proper vid camera. 5D full frame, great quality vid. Useless without proper audio.

  • @alanbstard4 I know. DSLR's are a joke as far as audio goes, but one can get decent results with some fiddling. Personally I love my EX1, where I just plug a mic in and it sounds astounding. But I've been working with DSLR audio lately to try to help people get the best they can for times they don't want to go 2nd system sound.

  • @ChadWork1 Hi I'm at the stage now where I am doing pro stuff in vid. I love my 5D and the quality of the images, both vid and still, but let's face it, it's always going to be a still camera. I can hire a pro camera cheaply and knock the cost on to a sponsor, and I have built in pro XLR, no problem with audio, and no having to synch it all into the computer.. hand and shoulder held. Too easy

The DSLR on the other hand requires you buy aftermarket stuff. It's crazy

  • @alanbstard4 I agree that DSLRs can be very fiddly, but there is no shortage of after market things to buy for video cameras either. I have 2 Sony EX1s, and for important shoots I still use a mixer and 2nd system sound to get 24bit audio, and the control/limiters a mixer affords, then there is still mics, lights, media (one 32gig SxS costs 1,000.00 now). So really everything one gets for a DSLR, pros still get for their nicer video cameras. But it is nice to have XLR into your camera for sure!

  • DAMN why the hell is she so PISSED? #LOL

  • For the DS214, if you only have one mic plugged in is it awkward to have to adjust the left and the right knobs?

  • @SconesOnTheGo I suppose it would be nice if one knob could be ganged to adjust both channels, but it's not such a big deal really.

  • I like the way this video shows the path in audio changes, from wireless to hypercardioid

  • Nice video, Chad! If this video made your sweetie upset, just use the two most powerful words in the English language: FOOT MASSAGE.

  • Great video, excellent explanation of DSLR audio with Juicedlink products.

But the real star of the show here is Gina!

  • Great flick Chad... although I'd hate to be you if the Mrs see'[s what you've done with her (on YouTube)... Cheers

  • Yikes. Sounds like you were in the doghouse, man.

  • Thanks for posting this video Chad! Very informative !

  • What editing program is that in the background on your fist computer screen? Sony Vegas? After Affects?

  • @pepsiman570 Hi! That's Final Cut Pro. Thanks for watching.

  • @ChadWork1 I asked you this a looooong time ago but was wondering, do you have recommend any camcorders for beginners?

  • @pepsiman570 That depends on your budget! I say look in the 3,000.00 range of Sony Cameras.
