  • Awesome game...

  • @1shoryuken definitely. epic game, epic tracks. this and shining force (I) so often get neglected in discussions of amazing 16-bit soundtracks. i don't get it. i still get tunes from both games stuck in my head randomly without having played either in many years.

  • quiet possibly one of the most overlooked RPG soundtracks of all time.

  • 9:18 - can someone tell me where i can find it or the name?

  • @capostatus937

This game is very tough with minimal grinding (I've known people who tried the end w/o Rune's Efess, and Posibolt is really hard to get so low) :O But yeah there aren't many treacherous labyrinths.

And Glumglufs, that would be Field Motavia.

  • What's the second track called?

  • I think I love this game more than girls

  • Always loved all the battle themes in this one, especially Laughter.

  • this game is awesome, a great sequel to PS2 (forget PS3). although i am firmly of the opinion that tokuhiko uwabo (sometimes credited as just "bo") should have written the music for PS4 (he was the composer for PS1 and PS2).

  • There is a reason this game retailed and sold out during release for $100 each. for a Gensiss game. simple the best game of its time, and one of the best rpgs ever made.

  • Where can I get a rom of this game?

  • @Lrdvltr

    sent you a message.

    anyway this needs more views!

  • whos played Phantasy Star 2 lol

i gave up on that game when finding the nei items lol

i'm pretty sure I had 1 or 2 items to go, I didn't know if i was waisting time finding Nei items in the wrong cave..........sooo painful I gave up and just got pisst ever since,

thank God for YouTube I just watched the ending scene xD

  • @cHeeZzAe

Aw that's sad. You were so close to getting to hear Under (the music for Noah...best in the game IMO) and then the last couple of music Ustvestia will never get to play which is great as well.

I know it can be tough, but now you know why it came with a hint book and maps.

I think it gets better the more you play, as the green dam was such a headache, and then my 2nd time I did myself in one sitting.

  • This game was one of the first fine examples of CUTSCENES! And they were nice too. FOR ME, this is probably the RPG that set the standard of hop from village to village expecting better gear from merchants and being badass for just long enough after upgrading everything and being broke again.... Yes I had played NES RPGs before but was way too young to simply understand the pattern.

  • Honestly, why do they not make Phantasy Star games like this anymore? The new games are not as good as the old ones, but not even really in the same spirit. Did no one who made these games ever want to make another? They are pretty epic and fantastical for a bunch of like...8 or 16 bit RPGs, and I'd love to see what could be done with the universe and the storyline on today's machines.

  • I played this game on the Sega Channel, anyone remember that, it was the first real RPG I ever played and I loved it. If it wasn't for this I probably would have passed on most of the RPG games I love now.

  • Rune's Theme "Thray" was always my favourite...

  • @officialalbdamned Me too! Both times you find him in the game I'd just listen to it over and over again.

  • @SusannahMi0 Ha ha me too :)

  • The music in this game matches the rest of the game. DAMNED EPIC. I love many other rpg's with a passion, but this is one that I'll remember when I'm an old man.

  • this music is really great. Endboss from PS 1 is also perfect. I wonder that no Bands copy this musik. So it get lost and only a few remember it.

  • <3 the fantasy zone shout out at the hunter's guild!

  • I loooooooove this game ^^

  • it is funny phantasy star(1-4) has great game music and cut scenes but the sound fx for the game sucked balls but i still think they were all great games

  • A notable thing about this game's music is that it is the last one (?) Izuho Takeuchi (IPPO) and the only one Masaki Nakagaki (Gaki-Chan) worked on... A bit sad if you ask me, after giving us such masterful music here (and IPPO on earlier games).

That first PS Dungeon Arrangement (Ladea, Air Castle), I didn't care about the original version, but the other one I did (while for the arrangements, it is vise versa).

  • The afterburners of the ship @ 4:40 remind me of the Moldy Crow (Dark Forces).

  • Omg. The game I played as youth, and I'm playing still on my SG emulator.

That storyline, the setting (honestly, post-apo sci-fi with magic? MOAR!), and the music!

Truly, if not the Nintendo and Final Fantasies, this game would be worshipped worldwide. What a stroke of bad luck, though...

  • The Biolab (where you meet Rika) had great music. Also the Ladea Tower/Air Castle music was epic.

  • My 3rd Fave RPG ever

  • Man, this brings back memories. Especially for me, because this was last console game I played. Then I got hooked on Red Alert and Civilization 2.

  • Rune tis the best. ^_^ I loves him.

  • this game is so awsum

  • Raja ftw!

  • The music at 5:19 = AWESOME. I haven't heard that in over 10 years and do not have this game or even knew where it came from. I'm glad I checked these Music of Video Game links.

  • My second favorite Genesis game after Shining Force 2. Amazing soundtrack.

  • @Camwi

I totally agree with you. It really touched me to see someone remembering also SF2.

Landstalker was also a good one, but in another style.

  • SF2 rocked!

  • This game is amazing. And the soundtrack was so awesome too.

  • This fricking game FUCKING ROCKS! I've finished it maybe 10 times in my entire life time

  • I finish it every damn year. If it get the rights, I want to publish a comic to tell the story with chaz further T^T

  • I really need to get around to playing the original Phantasy Star series. I only ever played PSO.

  • Thanks!!! I will cry...

  • I love this game.

  • 10/10

    100%

The best game around the world

  • One of my all-time favorite games across all systems. Hands down. I could have bought the game thirty times over with how many times I rented it from the local video store.

  • I remember renting this from blockbuster over and over--probably my favorite rpg from the 16-bit generation.

  • Field Motavia=best song to listen to while walking around on a hot summer day.

  • heh, i kept the old genesis just for this game =]

this is an amazing 16-bit game!

  • Oh, if I could get a copy of the really phenomenal remix cd of original PS I II III IV tracks Sega put out.. a million years ago. I'd be a happy boy.

This makes me happy too, though.

  • For a ridiculous price of around $120 shipped you can.

  • this game has the best sound track of any game

Or at least of any genesis game

But then again there are shining forces too :S

Well at least this is pretty damn good

  • I'm 12 again : D heh

  • This game inspired me to get into writing music for games.

  • Do you work for a company? Or for recreation? I'm really interested in that career. Any tips?

  • @Talansekaro which games have your wrote the music for?

  • Hands down, bar none, one of the Greatest Games of All Time.

    Forget that online Universe crap.

THIS is the true Phantasy Star universe. THESE were the worlds of Algo we grew up with.

THESE are the races of Algo.

And THIS is the game that brought it all together in one perfect package. If you've not played through this.....you truly owe it to yourself.

  • you're right. Just... flat out right.

  • You are so completely right.

The new stuff...It lacks the heart, the drama.

  • You're absolutely, 100% correct! Personally, I don't think the newer games hold a candle to the first four games.

  • @jdtwk123 totally agree. ps4 was the pinnacle of the series. they went off the deep-end with this whole PSO nonsense though :(

who knows. maybe we'll see a return to algo on the 360 or ps3. it would sell!

  • @jdtwk123 you are so right about this game

  • @jdtwk123 omg u took the words right out of my mouth... these r the true phantasy star games

  • @nicegirl333 You're welcome :)

  • @jdtwk123 Of all of them, I liked the 4th best. It was like you were watching your past, working to finally kill that damn thing in the end.

A really touching scene at the abrupt end of the first zio fight.

  • o, and the best parts of this soundtrack were the remixes of ps1 tracks!

  • did anyone else find the cheat of pressing something like "abc" at the "start"/"continue" dialog box to get full access to the soundtrack? it was fun, and i recorded my favorites on tape so i could listen to the music when i wanted to :3

  • lol at back in the day when we had to hold our tape recorders up to the tv speakers to capture audio. Things sure have changed.

  • LOL... guilty as charged!

  • haha, I did the exact same thing

  • OMG dude i love this game....bring back child hood memories. i remember when i was told to sleep, id wake up in the middle of the night just to play this game... best rpg and game ever played in my life. love the music too!! so much adrenaline rush

  • best game evar ^_^

  • ive played this and it has indeed some of th best genesis music really good and melodical tunes.

  • I agree this was some of the best music on the Genesis, right next to Gunstar Heroes in my opinion.

  • I love this game. All the characters were awesome.

  • I loved this game too.

  • Thank you very much for this video ^^!

  • This game came out in 1993 in Japan and 1994 in North America.

  • Yeah, for some reason I put the EU date in this one. Guess I looked too quickly, anyway, thanks for the heads up.

  • @garudoh I really wanna play this game but I don't know if I should play PSII first to get more outta this one. What should I do?

  • @capostatus937

Well PSII, it's less complicated and PSIV might just spoil you. (And if you do, I advise against using Hugh and Shir, maybe even Amy and Anna.)

  • @Timsonourside i always heard that PSII was the harder one as far as dungeons

  • @capostatus937 it was actually. in one dungeon, there were 30 different stairs.

  • @capostatus937 play ps2 with the hint book/walkthrough it helps in dungeons. i play it this way so that the dungeons didnt deteriorate my actual enjoyment of the game.

  • Wrong, it was early 1995 in America. The copyright date is 1994 but it came out in 95.

  • I love it, 'specially the music at 5:19.
