SIEMPRE ME HAN GUSTADO ESTOS MODELOS DE AVIONES X LO ESPACIOSO QUE SON, LO BELLO QUE ES Y EL SONIDO DE LAS TURBINAS... ME ENCANTA Y ME HACE RECORDAR CUANDO LA AEROLINEA AVENSA EMPEZÓ A PRESTAR SUS SERVICIOS EN CUMANÁ CON ESTE BOEIGN 727 EN LA CIUDAD DE CUMANÁ VENEZUELA PARA EL AÑO 1980 AUN SIENDO NIÑO.
Lovely old planes, and not quite dinosaurs yet: Delta used theirs as late as 03, and 500 were still in revenue service as late as 08 per Wikipedia. They can operate on grass and gravel airstrips because their high-mounted, low-bypass engines don't suck in FOD like the low-slung engines a similar-sized A320 or B737 would.
I went to an aviation school next to laguardia airport and everytime a 727 or a 737-200 took off from RWY 4 some of the florescent lights would fall off the ceiling.
I have lived close to Manchester Airport in the UK for a few years back in the 80's and in my experience, the only commercial airplanes that could match or even exceed the noise decibels generated by the 727s upon takeoff are the BAC 1-11s and Vickers VC-10s.
BAC 1-11s and the VC-10s could wake up the dead for miles around. Just kidding, but you know what I mean...
@mmarl2k1 they dropped the #2 engine in the tail and lower the tail to be a fuselage mounted tail and not a T-tail plus they had to add 4 wheel units for the main landing gear oh ana fyi the third engine is actually known as the #2 engine not #3
Flew many many times and whenever scheduled flights always checked for the 727, only plane wanted to fly (747 second). Favored Continental, their pilots flew the plane! Take off and climb...no pussyfooting around. A truly great, or should I say, outstanding aircraft...really miss it.
at 0:16 if no one has noticed, the plane has a retractable tail skid to prevent dangerous tailstrikes for over rotation especially with a 727 because when they takeoff they always look like they want to strike the tail
727 engine sounds are loud. i was going on a cruise on port everglades which is by ft.lauderdale-hollywood intl airport. i saw a capital cargo 727 taking off. plane is loud as hell but it was amazing
noob question...if the plane has a narrower body is it prone to less stability than wide bodies?
Just a thought, I've been on tons of Embraer 190's and they are not the best in stability...on the other hand, the A319 and A320 you barely even feel it taking off or touching down at similar weather conditions and such....
the 777 will never be replaced it has the longest range of any commercial aircraft and will just be renewed. the 737 will most likely be replaced by a new narrow body, yes i understand that, but the 787 will eventually be the main fleet for a shorter range company. transat for instance, you don't hear about them much where i live but they fly 330 and under. whats stopping them from replacing there smaller aircraft with a quieter more fuel and environmentally friendly jet?
fine but a thing of the past. you gotta look forward to more fuel and economy efficient planes the b737 and a320 are still around for a reason. pretty soon those will be on their way our and the b787 and a350 will take there place
@scaremenga a no? in 20 years what will be around? the dc9 is on its way out after 20 years, add 20 more and the 738 will be obsolete, with the dreamliner at the bottom. in the last couple years with the a380 and the new 747-8, airbus and boeing are gonna stride to put those in the same position and bring in the future of aviation. aviation is never finished. my point was merely look to the future never dwell on the past or present
@crazyshanerboy What the hell? The A380 is in it's own market. And the 747-8 and 787 are "replacing" the 747-400 and 767/777, respectively. Boeing will either make a new 737NG or create an entirely new narrowbody short-medium range aircraft.
Your original comment seems to imply that the 787 will replace the 737. If that's now what you meant, never mind.
I have a lot of ass time in both the Boeing 727 and the McDonald Douglas dc-9,md-88 both fine air[lanes to bad they are almost all retired there better plane than the smaller ones used today.
BAC 1-11s and the VC-10s were the loudest. The 727s are just a notch below those two.
It should be interesting to find out how the residents who lived close to major airports during the 60's, 70's and 80's managed put up with all the noise generated by those aircraft.
In my experience, the 727s are NOT the loudest during takeoffs, although they're certainly among the loudest..
BAC 1-11s, in my view, are the loudest. A plane like that taking off over a congested freeway can surely cause a lot of annoyance and complaints among drivers and, possibly, loosen up the traffic. You wouldn't even hear a Harley Davidson coming behind you in full throttle. It's that loud..
neighborhoodballers, they stopped making 727's back in the early '80's if I remember correctly. The reason the airlines don't use them anymore is mainly due to operating costs. That and it was easier to add the newer turbofans to the 737. The 727 lives on as a freighter.
I've flown on 727s many, many times on TWA, Braniff, and Continental. Fantastic airplane. A retired 727 captain I know who flew for American said they were the best planes Boeing every built. I agree!
They are low-bypass turbojets. What books call the fan is actually the low pressure compressor. Engines like the GE CFM56 series like on the 737-300 and newer are turbofans with a true fan up front.
@maousn75 "low bypass turbojets" What? There's low-bypass turboFANS and high-bypass turbofans but no low-bypass turbojets. Bypass ratio didn't matter in turbojets since basically ALL of them had the SAME bypass ratio.
I know this comment is over 7 months old and you probably realized your mistake since then but still.
@xTomcatsForeverVF84x It means nosier, less fuel efficient and also means capable of taking amounts of abuse far in excess of modern engines... Those JT-8s could gobble birds all day long and not even hiccup, on modern engines that usually results in a shutdown.
I grew up hearing these every day going in and out of Philly International. Also heard (and saw) them when I attended Embry-Riddle in Daytona Beach in 1981. Nothing like having a math class next to the end of an active runway.
Looked up the history of this bird. It was originally delivered to Delta Air Lines as N456DA...it is a Boeing 727-232 Advanced model. It was then bought by People Express and registered as N515PE. It became a Continental bird after the People Express buyout...re-registered N27783.
Gotta love the 727! Wow! I saw 727's here in the Philippines whn I was a kid in NAIA but the name "Continental" was named "Continental Micronesia" but it bears the same logo and lettering.
If Boeing kept the 727-line running to compete with the DC-9 (somehow hurdling over the 2-jets better than 3-jets dilemma) these might have been stretched and equipped with IAE V2500's! How godly would that be.. lol!
@XBoeingCapt Skipper, the Boeing 727 is gonna go down in history as the best jet the Seattle folks ever made! I've flown in 'em many, many times and NEVER had a bad trip!
@vargas37 hi there; yes the #2 engine was not bled for takeoff so it was what we used to call, "three cents higher" than nos. 1 &3 ...hope this helps.
@wizzair1313 no skyflite had it right i would say because 99% of the people i heard them say "If it's not a Boeing I ain't going!" and well you that 1% other. Plus its fucken stupid Airbus is better, had less crashes and the same as boeing so why the fuck should any one care?
there are no other jets. there are all wannabe planes. 727 is the best and all the rest are simply bullshit. ueah yeah..loud and crap fucking airports and their nearby residents.. i hope everyone who had a hand in killing it burns in hell.LONG LIVE FEDEX
Most of my families vacation flights out of YVR in the '70's were in 727's. I'll always have really fond memories of these old birds. They were hot rods too, no other airliner pushed you back into the seat like these did.
@neighborhoodballers yes, because the tri-jet design isn't efficient and the 757 replaced the 727. Also, this is during the peak of air travel now airlines are carrying slightly less passengers meaning they need lower capacity jets.
@littlebitch231 Boeing was thinking of launching the 727-300, but the Oil Embargo of 1973 caused boeing to come out with more efficient designs. The 757 was initially designed to replace the 727, but it carved out a new niche of its own. The true 727 successors are The A320 and 737-800.
Love it. 727 was my favorite AC of all time. They were designed for takeoff on shorter and medium runways with that wing design, yet they seem to love the ground. What a beautiful climb!
The only thing that I like that whines are those engines :]

Most of my families vacation flights out of YVR in the '70's were in 727's. I'll always have really fond memories of these old birds. They were hot rods too, no other airliner pushed you back into the seat like these did.

they just dont make them like this anymore. its almost as if 737's and
a320's have taken over narrowbody fleets
neighborhoodballers 2 years ago 27
now the A319's are taking over what used to be northwests DC-9 fleet :(
91Snyder 2 years ago 4
@neighborhoodballers If only Boeing didn't acquire Mcdonnell Douglas my friend :(
sixxgunxquota 1 year ago
@neighborhoodballers - because 737s and a320's are cheap, safe, new, and reliable. and the 727 is OLD AS HELL!!!!!! :)
Hobinator17 1 year ago
@neighborhoodballers yes, because the tri-jet design isn't efficient and the 757 replaced the 727. Also, this is during the peak of air travel now airlines are carrying slightly less passengers meaning they need lower capacity jets.

@neighborhoodballers so true
vounman 1 year ago
@neighborhoodballers They have, because they're more efficient than 727's.

best plane boeing ever made....need the 727-300!
littlebitch231 2 years ago
@littlebitch231 Boeing was thinking of launching the 727-300, but the Oil Embargo of 1973 caused boeing to come out with more efficient designs. The 757 was initially designed to replace the 727, but it carved out a new niche of its own. The true 727 successors are The A320 and 737-800.

Now that is what an airplane should sound like, give me a screaming jet like this, an old DC-9, or a BAC 1-11 anyday.

tubeyou443 2 years ago
i think a 727 is louder than a dc-9 but dc-9s are qlose 727 has 3 dc-9 engines
muthatrukka24 2 years ago
Love it. 727 was my favorite AC of all time. They were designed for takeoff on shorter and medium runways with that wing design, yet they seem to love the ground. What a beautiful climb!

aerogal and syrian air fly passengers on them these days
