ok um i found a pidgeon while walking home , and it seemed like it was hurt becuase it couldnt fly so i took it home , and i had a pretty big cage from my other birds i used to have, and so i put him there i am not sure if its the same pidgeon, and after a while of feeding him and what not, i tried to let him free and let him fly away. But he doesnt wanna fly away? and he sticks around the cage (roof and around and on top of cage) and he wants to stay, and i wanted to learn how to like tame him?
@TheSmilez1231 any suggestions on how i should try to get him to be more frendly and like have him as a pet because seems like he wants to stay, and i kinda need help(:
@TheSmilez1231 Sometimes handfeeding works, but the best thing to do is to just let him do as he likes around your house and the cage. Your his home now, whether he is hand tamed or not, you know? I got three adult pigeons and they arent tame because they werent raised to be. Avoid force handling, but try the hand feeding, look up bird training diet methods, but if you cant find what that means your welcome to ask me :)
I'm looking at rescuing and Indian Fantail Pigeon thats mated with a pretty female King Pigeon. I cant wait to talk to the adoption coordinator and see them! :D
To ppl that say pigeons are disgusting, or in the words of TheJDMsamuraiwarrior, unsanity (fail). Stop bugging us pij lovers. They actually aren't stupid. Did you know, pigeons are the only non-mammal out of six animals in the whole world that can recognize their own reflection? Or that they can differentiate over sixty paintings and artists, and remember the difference for over three years? They are highly intelligent, and pigeons such as Cher Ami and G.I. Joe saved hundreds of people in wars.
there's a huge king pigeon on my block that is surviving QUITE well- in fact he's sired many young as indicated by the many large white markings on many of the birds. he maintains two nests on one building and is now checking out the real estate on my building! i'd be happy to foster at any time. i just lost my pigeon whop lived free in my house for 5 plus years. AMAZINGLY smart and LOVING pets. they are missing out on knowing some truly loving creatures.

pigeons are stupid . I won a cat which goes after the pigeons that tries to land on my balcony . I hate it when pigeons shit on my balcony . its unsanity and gross . pigeons are so disrespectful of someones property .
I really like this video, it was very interesting, I would really like to adopt and save a few king pigeon. I have several roller pigeons and a few fantails and alot more room for more birds, I seen some @ a local pet shop in Los Angeles it made me feel sad for these poor king pigeons that were really cramped in a small cage and a couple had bloody heads and most of the others had bald heads from fight with each other. Can I report them and to who ? Does anyone know ?
where are there Rescue that have king pigeons when i first started my pigeon flock i had 8 pairs of them all colors they are very cool and i would like to find more can you let me know where ? thanks
i have a king pigeon, she's in this video & i can tell you firsthand, they do indeed make wonderful house pets. why anyone would think it was 'unethical' or harmful to the birds to live in a house has obviously never witnessed what NON.house birds go through. mine are fed clean food daily, clean water daily, live in a huge enclosure, are warm in the winter/cool in the summer, & receive INDIVIDUAL care & attention. much more than i bet some of 'those people' bestow on their birds!
I just adore all pigeons, AKA the Bird of Peace. I love what you do, and I myself have never walked past an injured pidge without taking it home and committing to its nursing care. They are wonderful birds who do nothing to deserve the hatred and harm so often bestowed upon them.
Oh, hey, I think I read a blog post about this too. This is valuable information to me, I'm having trouble convincing the pigeon clubs and hobbyists that it's not unethical or harmful to the pigeons to be kept as house pets. I'm hoping that when I move to a better place, I'll be able to get a couple of unwanted pigeons from someone. Or, if I'm incredibly lucky, I'll be able to get one from a shelter before it's put down.
I love pigeons!
