  • OH YES! :) It does not get any better!

  • RIP ZEKE. YOU DID A FANTASTIC JOB ON THIS SONG.

  • Priceless to see these guys still performing...today's groups could only dream of lasting 50 years...

  • best song i have heard watch the movie a bronx tale this song is in

  • And Bibier and the other came along and spoil everything, what a bummer. Good music, thank you Wakatjo for the upload.

  • Who gives a crap about moldy voices??? This cannot be replaced

  • Homeboys! Smooooth...

  • Sorry but the title spinning around is too distracting.

  • These relic send ups of old songs are painful to experience. The voices are mostly gone and they have more than a foot in the grave. I hope they at least make some money off this mouldy goop.

  • To show such disrespec t to these classic greats who pave the way for the new talent out Shrame on your lack of hometraining

  • As great as was the original recording--50--fifty--five-oh--years before this performance, I'm wondering not only how they the heck they ever did it--i.e., made THE most hauntingly beautiful harmony of all time with minimal but perfectly-scored instrumentation, the voices doing not all the haunting--but how the heck could they still perform it so well live? Brings style and grace to 'Doo-wop' [or 'dubopshoobop', or whatever they backups are singing--more perfect words nonexistent] like no other.

  • @dslomer I think they are singing "shebopshebop".

  • Wait. They're not.... they can't be. Are they... singing live?

  • 4 have no eyes

  • This is the real & original lead singer of this incredible song. There is another " Flamingoes" group , but they are fakes--this is the real deal, & what a timeless performance this was! One of the most romantic songs ever--EVER--recorded. EVER. I know, I was there in the late 50's. Wolfsky9, 64 y/o

  • @Wolfsky9

Yes, Zeke is an original, but this recording in '59 was lead by Nate Nelson as were most of the later Flamingos hits. The earlier ones were generally lead by Sollie McElroy.

  • GABRIELLE from the UK

if You read this, I've been looking for you long time, I'm the guy from Holland.

Remember when we had that nice conversation on CR, the 2nd of January? And this was the song you learned me about, because you like the 60's and 70's music so much, just like I do. Do you still remember that?

But then you wanted to tell me your msn, and at that moment the connection failed, but I'm still waiting for it.

Gabrielle, if you read this, I still remember our conversation, PM Me

  • As Outkast said:

"I met a critic, I made her shit her drawers, she said I thought hip hop was only guns and alcohol. I said Aw hell no, but yet it's that too. You can't discrimihate cause you done read a book or two!"

  • Why compare this to Hip Hop? Your talking about two different lifestyles, living conditions and ways of thinking..... Yes this is GREAT music but there are also great Hip Hop songs as well.... Still can't compare the two unless you count each ones movement in music!...

  • @Oleschool619

cuz this is da shizzle by the dashboard light duh!

  • Thanks for posting such a great song for us all

  • Sandra dedicates this love song to her husband Gary Indio Calac, with all my love and affection. We are so in love. Forever we are one !

  • @mytaylorsnana may you keep your love and affection private

  • Sorry but this doesn't hold a candle to the performance by Terry Johnson's Flamingos. He is now credited as the song's arranger & entirely responsible for taking the group in a totally new direction after they had floundered for some time. He created that distinct sound they are remembered for & Terry can sing rings around this singer. I've seen Terry's group twice within the past year & he and his group will knock the socks off you!! This version doesn't pack the emotional punch of Terry's.

  • @wally1435 Most oldie lovers are nostalgic, they love the "antique" that has the history, the part that walked the walk.. You can improve anything but then it's not an antique anymore, just a improved reproduction. You are fortunate to appreciate a great musical performance - something the general oldies crowd doesn't put high on their list. The memories are 1st.

  • @wally1435 -try the punch of Garfunkle !

  • WOW, Johnnie Carter is truly a legend; to be twice inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of Fame: first with the Flamingos and the second time with the Dells, this is truly a blessing and shows his commitment to his love of music.

    Peace,DUAL

  • love this song, but the rotating tittle is distracting and annoying

  • Yes, what's the point in the spinning graphic? irritating

  • Bronx Tale baby

  • i have loved thins song since i was little and heard it on an episode of buffy. makes me feel like falling in love.

  • The greatest of all songs to melt into your baby's arms. I fell in love with my girl

when I heard this for the first time. We were in my car, overlooking the lake, with the moon shining down on us. I knew then, that she'd be my wife forever. We've been married for 34 years, and we still fall for each other, whenever we hear this song. The Flamingo's are the greatest !

  • Oh! That's so nice to "hear"!!! You two are very blessed people...lol! All the best!!!

  • hat is great. @gwinnfreeland

  • @gwinnfreeland Sweet story bro'. Kids today won't be able to say things like that with the music that's doing the rounds right now. Hard to fall in love over a moonlit lake with Fiddy cranking on the MP3.

  • they still sound great, great song.i l,ike new rock but this is original no sound machines just real talent.

  • Greetings from Budapest/Hungary. This is one of the smoothest song what I ever heard. I like it. You can hear it in the Bronx Tale (Robert de Niro), too.

  • I first heard this song while in 94 while working at an oldies radio station, I thought it was and still is the smoothest song ever

  • whateverhappentojacksontag,vickvaughn,earlnesmith,bumpyjohnsonwhoplayabigrollintheyrebuildingthegroupincludingfrankayersandjerome78/80s

  • It was '59. I was in the back seat of my folk's car. Heard this and said to myself "Whoa!!!! This will go to No. 1!" And it did. And I melt every time I hear it. Imagine this song at the Sr. Ball and "Mr. Of The Moment. . ." while we swayed around the floor . . . . I'm 66 and STILL melt whenever I hear it. Ahh - where is Patrick??!

  • @caiatransplant mustve been an amazing time to be alive. peace to you.

  • Damn, these guys nails this song.

  • IMHO, The Sexiest song of the Doo wop ear, maybe of all-time. If this didn't work, nothing would! Just a true classic; I remember seeing these guys do this on " AB", in '59. What memories, & what a time it was. Wolfsky9

  • Sollie McElroy was the lead on their earliest recordings, which were for Chance records, until he left in 1955, to sing lead for The Moroccos.

  • nate is the lead singer on the recording eyes

  • i thought the flamingos where an italian doo wop group lol

  • Have loved this song since I heard it in a Kenneth Anger underground movie... Chicago needs a Soul music festival! That was just as big here as the blues.

  • no, but I really love this song and have since the 50's.

  • Wo was the original singer of this song for the Flamingos? Was it Nate Nelson or Terry Johnson?

Wikipedia kind of skirts the issue.

  • Terry Johnson wrote this song; but the original singer was Jake Carey.....

  • I might have this song by this group played at my wake!!!

  • We had these kinds of musics. How do we end up with Lil Wayne and TI? I ask myself.

  • Totally agree with you....

  • @ManUtdiszbest Take it easy this was an old song when the Flamingo's did it , took an old standard and doo wop'd it , it and they are great but it was not really your music it was music people were feeling romantic about before you and may well have commented what is this sha bup sha bup stuff, something to consider , yes I was in a doo wop group, but this whole music was only good in my day ,get's a bit old and stuffy!,

  • @rakeuiff

I am 27 years old. I am just comparing the oldies with the so called music i.e. Hip-hop. Music is devolving rapidly. If you pay attention to the lyrics in these Rap musics, it will disgust you.

  • @ManUtdiszbest right on the money there mate...seems that they have to swear etc.throughout their music to sell records..

  • @ManUtdiszbest

There's still good music out there, you just gotta dig a little. It makes it more fun when you do find something great!

  • @ManUtdiszbest

This lead singer is Zeke Carey. He founded the group with his "cousin" Jake Carey in the early '50's. He kept the group going through the years until his death in Dec 1999. We became very close as he and his group performed in my shows in Atlantic City. He was a true gentleman. I'm sorry the induction of THE FLAMINGOS into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame happened after his death.

  • Does anyone know that this song was written in the 1930's?

  • Yes, it was. It was written in 1934 for a film called "Dames," according to Wikipedia.

  • Yes , in the Busby Berkley film.

It was a popular song , but in the late 50's became the classic as we now know it.

  • ..and the dance routine is mind-blowing. Ruby Keeler's face appears everywhere... before they had CGI, there was Busby Berkeley.

BUT - this singer on this video is nowhere as good as Terry Johnson, the genius who took this uptempo Harry Warren 1930's dance number and turned it into the greatest romantic nocturne of all time.

  • hands down best love song of all time!!!

  • I agree, osyris!

    Memphis "Piano" Joe

  • Tiwa Tiwa , the sound of star wink that the blind elder daurghter listened, Maeterlink!

  • Still sounds good.

  • The is the best 'weed song' of all time. I love this...

  • lmfao how is this a weed song??

unless you a ill pothead gettin off w mary jane

  • It's the mood of the song. What a classic.

  • Haunting background, delicious chords throughout, one of the greatest love songs ever. Sung magnificently of course by those guys.

  • the most romantic song of all time

  • He is not the original lead, but that's Zeke Carey, one of the founding and original members of the flamingos. He doesn' t have to be the "original" because he had been singing that song with the group from the very beginning and sings it very well. Unfortunately, this was one of his last performances

  • @gargadow you hit the nail on the head, that was Zeke Casrey's last apperance!

  • It doesn't matter, original or not, it's still one of the all time greatest love songs and it still gives me chills!!!

  • That's not even the original singer.

  • Are you sure? Because he likes the other guy in the other Flamingos video here on YouTube.

  • Nate Nelson was the original and he died in 84

  • It's so great they still have that cool groove...so he doesn't hit the high notes so much, the mellow timbre of his voice almost makes up for it. Thanks for posting!
