sorry I haven`t some tutorials for rhino. maybe I can help you to search if you wanna... for learn like these I learn "just Rhinocering" is rare but some imagination for make cross section and watch pictures of a rel model.

How did you get the transparent image to appear in the background?

well.. it´s easy.. just make an surface (rectangular) where the size is same than your image in pixels..."for example an suface in 800x600 inches for image 800x600 pixel.." ... finally aply to this surface material type.../basic/texture/ select your image... ... and use rendered display to see the picture in your surface like material
