I wondered if you were doing the other 3 games on the mac. And Shadowgate was my favorite. {Despite the Torch fucking rules} other then that, it deserves the best creepy Icom game here.
On another note wouldn't these games be perfect fits for the iPad and other tablets? :-)
Thanks for the video and I love this channel! I've been gaming on Macs since 1986 so I'm very familiar with that time period. Discovering this channel today is a real treat for me. Your presentation is top notch! Keep up the great work!
Those were the days! The MacVenture series were great games. I actually knew somebody that worked at ICOM Simulations back in the day and he told me they had actually planned a 5th "MacVenture" called "The Awakening" which centered around Jack the Ripper in modern day London. The game had been virtually completed but the plug got pulled on it at the last minute for some reason that I can't remember (Perhaps something happened to Mindscape, the publisher, or ICOM Simulations themselves?).
@Yor69 A 5th game!? Wow, what I'd give to get my hands on a copy of that! If I recall correctly Mindscape still published games throughout the 90's, into the 2000's, so my guess would be that something happened at ICOM. Perhaps they were too busy when they were developing games for the TurboGrafx-16? Who knows, but that stinks the 5th game never came out!
@killgruz Somebody once suggested elements of "The Awakening" were incorporated into ICOM's "Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective" series but I'm not so sure. In any case I lived near ICOM back then and use to call them frequently to try to get info about their upcoming stuff (They eventually knew me on a first name basis, heh). The last guy I spoke to claimed to have a playable copy of The Awakening on his desk! And yes I asked and no he couldn't! Ah well. :- (
Always get a smile on my face when I see there's a new vid from you mate, and its another excellent one as always. Although I never played this on the mac, I did play it for the NES, and its by far one of the scariest games I can remember from back then.
@TanukiKGA Johnny I miss YOUR videos. You so need to get on that and put some out. The NES version of Uninvited was a weird play for me, since I grew up with this version. I remember not liking it very much, but I don't totally remember it. It's been a really long time, I need to give it a shot again.
@killgruz Thanks man. It feels good to know that someone liked them. Its been a really rough year, but I still haven't given up totally on the show, there are still some ideas kicking around :)
Yeah, I guess the experience is gonna differ a lot depending on the version I play. I just remember getting freaked out a lot from that cursed ruby. It took forever until I figured out what was happening and even why!
@TanukiKGA Sorry to hear it's been a rough year for ya. Good thing it's almost over! :) Thank goodness you haven't given up on the show, my entire household really enjoyed it! Hope to see something new from you sometime. Take care dude.
Great to see another video from you man! This was way more than I ever expected, too. You clearly put a LOT of work into it. It was helpful, entertaining, and an all-around good watch. Nicely done, nicely done. :)
As far as this game goes, the Mac version looks great, even if in black & white. I only played the NES version, and admittedly I had to use a walkthrough in order to get anywhere in it. It was OK on the NES, but I preferred Shadowgate over it. This Mac version though looks better!
@austinmackert Auuuuustin! Thanks dude, this video is the start of my 'Season 2', which will be 20 videos.
You're totally right about the NES version of Shadowgate over the NES version of Uninvited. Uninvited for NES almost feels like a totally different game than this Mac version, and I really didn't like it. I did enjoy Shadowgate for NES though, that was pretty ok.
Oh man, this game! The detail of the ways you die in this game were always so terrifying! I played the nes version when i was 8, which despite the slight nerfing of the text, still scared the crap out of me. While I still like this great classic, Deja vu 1&2 will always be near my heart :D
speaking of Deja vu wasn't there an easter egg in the labyrinth where Ace's tombstone layed?
@CompakNess The deaths are really creepy, exactly. Haven't revisited Deja Vu 1 or 2 yet, haven't even played it since my younger days. I'm still holding out playing through it, looking for a reasonably priced boxed copy...
@MaximumRD Thanks a bunch Rob. Yeah, the already BS price of Apple stuff went even higher now that Steve Jobs passed away. It's hard to justify spending over $100 on a single boxed Mac game, it sucks. =/
@leileilol lol, definitely. It's also a lot creepier on real hardware than emulation. IMO emulation damages the external atmosphere of this game, if that makes any sense.

I'm not a big fan of Mac stuff at all, but I love Uninvited and it's nice to see other versions than DOS and NES ones.
Subscribed because your videos are entertaining and informative.

the b/w 2 color palette somehow gives it a scarier noir feeling with the 80s'era hi res pixelation
