Hey Nullsquared, you lookin' for a job at a game company?
I'm a big fan of you work and I'm interested in making a puzzle game with portals in Unity for the iPhone. If you wanted a job doing this stuff full time just let me know, alright?
Well, if they did, they would have to create a whole other engine, because the source engine can't do that... and they didn't do that, so obviously......
Uhmm could ya post me a comment on why this must be great i got the portal game and its not so crapy as this lol .. i dont understand why this is so great
wctje77, i guess your are not a programmer so you don't understand how many hours nullsquared had put on this project, and how hard its to make a good functioning and cool portal system on a scenegraph. And it's made by just one guy.
I've haven't touch Ogre in while but this make want to use it again and finish my project.
@wctje777 yes i know I'm responding to a 3 year old comment and you may not even see this... the point is portal was made by a professional company with many college educated and trained professionals working on the project for years. this on the other hand was made by a SINGLE amateur person
Explode? Portals move fine through portals. If the portals in question are linked, then the first one will fly out of itself. A bit buggy and not 100% correct, but I'll fix it up.
The shorter it is, the better, I guess. There was a first comment, but it never got through. Add me as a friend so I can PM you instead, that always works.
*more than a single pair of portals active simultaneously (so you could make stuff like a crate that has portals on each of its sides (perhaps with some "frame" if the pandimensional cubic distortion look isn't what the artist is going for) for example, aswell making it easier to make it multiplayer, and I believe it would open tons of other possibilities besides this two I mentioned)
(grrrr, still to big, second thing on another comment then)
*I would like to know the oficial site for this project (if there isn't one, please create it, even if it is at first in some lame free webhosting service), and I would like to subscribe to a mailing list to hear about your advancements aswell as being notified of new vids, this kind of teasing is the good kind ;)
(ok, if this does thru all that is left to show is the first one, the one before I started sticking my nose into your stuff Xp
(this is the first one, I think the first attempt didn't got thru cause the second and third showed up so fast, worst case scenario there will be two copies of the first one (I changed one word to make it better in my opinion)
you guys rock big time! :D
/me mumbles somthing that sounds like some sort of prayer for the Second Life engine becomming as good as these guys are doing with this one
this is probably going to be the best game I'll play, EVAH!!
Yup, NewtonGD. This sort of literally proves that you don't need a share-ware ultra-pricey physics library for "cool stuff". In fact, after listening to Portal's commentaries, Havok was literally a _bad_ choice for portals. They originally took 100ms to be created, and now 10ms in a "simplified" environment.
The Disorder Engine's portals are all real-time, there is no "generation" of anything. That's why they are so completely flexible. Wait for the 0.5 public release.
Looks fantastic so far, though when the box finally managed to go all the way through, it was a bit.. offset. But it could be a trick of the light not going through portals. Great Job, keep it up.
These are both on my TODO list. Light traveling through portals (and being soft shadowed by the portal's shape) will make it in by version 0.4 (only for high end machines, however!). Forces moving through portals (like gravity) was implemented with my broken portal simulator, so I took it out to refactor it. Never got around to doing that, but no worries, it'll make it in by 0.4 as well.
:o Can't wait to see 0.4, and also you should improve the stick figure dude model :P and the portal frame is to big. But still this looks like awesome and win.
don't make lemonade

I'm sure if valve wanted to make their own portal engine to allow for all sorts of bricker brash they could have.

So is this lieka Portal mod or did you reverse-engineer it?
cyborgtroy 4 years ago
Neither. Being built from the ground up. Source (Portal's engine) wouldn't be able to accomplish movable or resizeable portals.

hey, can i beta test this ? also i make maps for q3 and if you need a mapper, ill make bsp's for you

Really nice stuff, make a video showing you putting a portal in another portal. Then make the universe explode.

Also, the whole "team" is just me (programmer) and Jaanus (modeler). Your comment is motivative, thanks :)
Wait for the 0.5 public release, its where everyone will get to play Portalized.

I might be wrong, but unless I got it wrong, only the continuation got thru, the first part of your msg to me doesn't seem to be here :/

You should make it so the light travels threw the portal + the gravity so you can get sucked in like a small little force
