  • the control and amplitude of that death drop...that s # 1 in my book...Boitano had a great one too but this is extraordinary! Great program...so entertaining to watch, speed, power, control, and a lot of personality!

  • Presentation scores were definitley too high

  • @metsdudenj Compared to who? Hoffmann? Santee? Tickner? Robin had by FAR the best musical interpretation in the SP and by FAR the cleanest and highest quality elements. Considering this was back in total points and every tenth counted, you could argue that he should have been marked even higher!

  • @floskate The elements were excellent, I agree he was the best skater. The camel positions were perfect. I just thought a 6 for that program was unwarranted, and some of those 5.9s, when I think of someone like John Curry or Paul Wylie....but I guess they can be argued to be warranted in this case because compared to Hoffman and Tickner he was stronger in his presence and line.

  • @metsdudenj John was the past and Paul was the future. A 6.0 wasn't just about bodyline and position, hardly an area where Robin lacked anyway!

  • Best short program I've ever seen. Footwork, spins, jumps, choreography...OUTSTANDING!!!

  • That death drop is the most gorgeous thing I've ever seen.

  • @billyelement @billyelement

I agree with you 100% and would suggest that younger fans who are not familiar with Robin's skating also check out his Olympic exhibition program, Machinery, Blue Serenade and the programme he did for the BBC with Julian Lloyd Webber - splendid jumps but moreover fantastic inovative choreography and footwork plus he always seemed to be enjoying himself. All these programmes are available on You tube.

  • Does any1 know the title of the music used in this program as I really would love to use it in a routine I am planning now.

    Many Thanks xx

  • @jamie2007jai20 The music is from the 1970 movie The Railway Children.

  • @veruca47salt Thank You so much! :) x

  • @jamie2007jai20 Its soemthing with children and train in the title thats all i remember. I skated to this music years ago/

  • @jamie2007jai20

It's from the soundtrack for the British film The Railway Children (1970).

  • LOVE the footwork sequence!! LOVE it!

  • Now THAT starting at 1:30 is what you call a straight line step sequence. Not the wild waving of arms and often kitsch moves we see in so called step sequences today which sadly seem to be performed by most contemporary skaters.

  • As an American, I don't believe I'm a tad biased at all.... I believe John Curry is the best figure skater EVER. The likes of John will never be seen again (unfortunately) as today's skating is a jumping contest. Robin Cousins was the best in 1980. But IMHO, his skating was nowhere near that of Curry. Watching John Curry skate was like Callas or Pavarotti singing, Baryshnakov dancing, Picasso painting or Babe Ruth playing baseball (for Americans).... a once in a lifetime phenomenon.

  • Or having a sandwich made by Gordon Ramsay?? Yum!

  • As a proud Brit I find when it comes to Ice Skating the US can be a tad biast as they are seen as the dominant of the skating world. Robin Cousins and John Curry were one of the best of the Brits in this arena.

  • 'biased'

  • if that comment was ment 4 me saying speak properly i can ryt how i want to and all said i wish i could skate like that

  • That was fantastic! It's hard to believe the man sitting at the end of DOI judge's panel is the man who used to skate like that (don't really know why it's hard for me to believe it, but it just is). :-)

  • Would love to see Robin, Karen and Nicky put on their skates for dancing on ice.

  • i love dancin on ice and i wish i cud do all dat lol and ray quins jump last nite was amazin and wen they showed robin doin it lol i was amazed cause i wansnt round in dat tym and it was soooo cool jayne and cris rock love them both

  • Can you please learn to spell and type in English I might understand what you're trying to say!

  • Heard and seconded!

  • Gosh as much as i love Torvill & Dean in Dancing on ice the other skating judges should get more recognition. Unless Robin,Nicky,Karen have retired I would love for them to perform on the show. They may not be Olymic Gold but (thank god 4 utube) this performace & others r amazing.

  • Robin won the 1980 Olympics... but I agree... there are some amazing performances out there. Just not AS amazin IMO :)

  • U see. Has there ever been a mention of Robin's Olympics win on DOI. (maybe they have...i only started watching from Series 3). Thanks for the fact.

  • Is he gay? Not being funny just wondered. Sorry.

  • He is, yeah!

  • They should get more recognition. Before i saw it on the show, I didn't even know that Robin used to skate!!

Or any of them for that matter!

  • My God that step sequence was fantastic! Now, not to get all off topic, LOL, but I sure wish someone would show this to Johnny Weir because when he is truly ON his style is similar to this and I would love to see him do a step sequence with this kind of beauty, motion, grace and energy involved. I know he's capable; he just needs a choreographer who can bring his natural elegance out of him...

  • im gojg ot see him in a show tommoz

  • Wow!!! I have never seen a step sequence with such complexity performed with that level of tight, neat, clean execution.

Furthermore, the modern CoP be damn, being able to maintain exceptional upper body posture and carriage while some much is going on during a STEP sequence is worth so much more than gaudy arm flapping.

  • Such a unique style, they has not really been anyone like him, he and Curry were one of the best of all time. And I loev the steps from 1:31 onwards, fantastic!

  • amazing double axels that would start at one end of the rink and finish at the other side of the rink.... one of the best!

  • That's incredible. 6.0

  • Brilliant. Great Britain has had the best 2 male figures of all time.

  • WOW!!! This was fantastic! It was a shame he wasn't able to win the gold at that year's worlds.....such a beautiful skater!

  • Only a 5.8 from the US judge . . .I wonder why LOL

  • We know why. I was disappointed she didn't give him a 5.9 (a 6.0 was more deserved IMHO). As much as I adored Charlie Tickner, Robin was clearly the best. He has a great camel spin, second only to Paul Wylie's, and that death drop is amazing!

  • Yeah, he deserved a 5.9 . .I thought the routine was amazing!

  • Whatever happened to British figure skating....

  • American that I am, I was rooting for Charles Tickner. But when I saw this, I knew Robin would and should be Olympic champion. The death drop is absolutely incredible!

  • This was superb. The height he reaches with his jumps is brilliant! Remember this so well from Lake Placid. Just a shame he had too much ground to make up in the worlds in 1980 to win a deserved gold there!

  • Great to see Robin's sp again. I didn't own a video when he skated this, but it will live in my happy memories forever. Alan Week's commentary is incomparable too.

  • I actually prefer his skating and program to John Curry's in '76. The choreography was so much better and it had more energy.

  • Robin's brilliant "Railway Children" short. Have you ever seen a better straight line step sequence?
