As said in the title this beautifull piece of music was made famous by it's use in the film but what is not well known is that it was writen by Dougie MacLean from Dunkeld in the Highlands and the correct title is 'The Gael'. If you would like another fantastic song from this great Scottish artist try ' Caledonia' it is truly great too.
This is so hauntingly beautiful. It chokes me up when I hear it. I hope the dislike person accidently hit the wrong button, that's the only excuse you could have for doing that!
I'm a bagpiper of several different kinds of bagpipes including the great highland pipes, so I'm quite aware of the temperament issues of historical instruments.. BUT... !?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? JUST listen at the difference of pich when the pipes enter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL at 1:30 minutes My god!!!!!!!
Thanks for posting. I've seen the Tattoo, and also the Argyle & Sutherland Highlanders, and the Royal Scots Guards here in the US. The British Army has the finest military bands in the world.
@keithbowen100 yea they werent they didnt identify them selves as celtic yet they wer the same genetic stock as all the celts in the britanic isles many choose to adopted celticism the picts were the only ones that didnt. there is no proof they spoke a celtic language. before the romans indo european culture had less nad less influence as u wnet furthere west in europe and almost non existant geneticly past germany
@keithbowen100 i think first to use the pipes were the Ancient Greeks and then a form of bag pipe, The Romans claimed that their pipes had come to them from the Greeks, Greeks also the first to inhabit ancient Alba.
this song reminds me of the indigenous peoples of the world, people who love our mother earth and take care of the environment that we still have they´re a humble people, people who no sell their ancestral heritage to the exploitation of white men
This was my first tattoo I saw it was epic and now I go every year from belgium to scotland just for the tattoo because its just such a wonderful show!
@nolicnotrut I have had the same response to my music (mandolin,) but I don't think it was tears of joy. LOL This is a great piece and very enjoyable.
You know if you were approaching or could see scottish troops and then you heard a band palying a piece and a shit load of pipers started you d shit your pants thinking "what the fuck is that!?"
Ha yeah who are those mental looking skirt wearing madmen coming at us with a swords axes and a bag with pipes in it making some loud ass tunes! epic!
Brings back memories of the massed bands at the 1998 Royal Remembrance Service at the Royal Albert Hall playing the same piece! Simply outstanding, so to be there and enthralled by the special atmosphere is awesome, great work!
Do I loose my man card if I cry to this song?

They did use bagpipes going in to battle quite often. Serves the same purpose as a wardance or an epic speech =)
