My partner of 14 years and I got our doctoral titles due to our committed realtion. Why do the hets hate us so much? We both volunteer and give.

You're absolutely right in that religious values can inspire law -- but "inspire" is the key word. A law can be based upon religious principle, as many are, but still must have a bona fide legal basis in order for it to satisfy the Due Process clause of the 14th Amendment. One must prove that permitting gay marriage will damage our society. No such proof exists. That's where laws like this go wrong, and unfortunately, nobody has taken that argument to the US Supreme Court yet.
