Anthony Jones is currently my co-worker at Ford Motor Company at The Dearborn Truck Plant, he's a very humble guy he wont mention that at one time he was among the best lightweights in boxing at one time.
Pernell Whitaker is the best lightweight since a prime Roberto Duran. One of the top 5 lightweights of all time. The lightweight version would whip any jr. lightweight and lightweight today, without question. Imagine Whitaker vs. Duran 135, wow!!
If he no-mas Sugar ray what would he do against a Sweet P??? i do say that duran is p4p one of the best to do it..so was Sweet P despite being robbed against Rameriz, Chavez, de La Hoya he still fought who's who along with Duran Hagler, Hearns,Leonard, Barkly..both would clean out the division now
The No Mas fight against Leonard has nothing to do with how a motivated Duran turns up at LW against Sweet Pea. He was sevrely weight drained and not at his best for that fight, and quit because Leonard was clowning, not because he was getting beaten up. The Duran of the first fight was the real Duran. However, I do think the movement that Leonard used was always a bit of a stylistic dilemma for Duran, and that Whitaker would be able to Decision him at LW, but it wouldn't be a "No Mas" deal.

jajaja bro he most b ur fam lol because if you like real boxing whitaker is the most mediocre or ordinary boxer ever to put his feet in a ring. to you boxing is about run, duck, clown, survive and the end said i win b,cois they not KO ME c,mon whith hoya chavez or amirez he think if i not get nocout im the winer lol thats boxin 2 u????
Whittaker outboxed Chavez so badly that in the middle of throwing a uppercut he stopped paused and hit him witha straight left for every 1 punch he hit P with P would hit him with 5-6 that says outboxed and as much as DLH flurried if you dont hit the target than you aint do nuthin..and as tall and long as he is against Whittaker Whittaker stepped in popped him and spun out and the most mediocre was Rameriz who Sweet P beat twice #1 win he got robbed and #2 to correct the judges mistake
and even with that he still a hall of famer rackin up wins over the who's who in boxing even being robbed against DeLa Hoya, Chavez, and Ramirez we know he beat them and tech he should only have 2 losses 1 to Trinidad(via cocaine not training properly) and 2 to borjorquez a broken clavical in a fight he was shutting out his opponant....

shut up fool, best way to play in the ring against stronger opponents is to use defensive style. Get off your ass and achieve what whittaker did if your so big
He was a GREAT fighter, what do you mean he would've been if not for cocaine? The cocaine took over later in his career when he was already on the downslide, it just sped it up a bit, but even on it he put on great performances like against DLH.
He beat the better guy's that's not to take away what Roy did. Roy didn't have the top fighter's to fight in his prime. He beat the two top guy's at 160 and 168 at the time Hopkins and Toney. He should have fought Chris Eubank instead of Vinny Paz though.
well the paz fight was way more exciting than the eubank fight would have been, plus roy looked non human in that fight, his best ever performance, like tyson vs spinks and ali vs cleveland williams
hey, that looked like Judge Mills Lane was referree, I wonder what happened to him? Have not seen him in quite a while. He still had some rather fancy foot-work himself there!
Yea, I knew about the stroke. I just wondered if he had any success with the recovery efforts. Guess his return to the lime-light is not expected huh?
I agree Roy Jones Jr is the most Talented Fighter that ever lived. I just wished he had Sweet Pea's Fearlessness and Confidence. Sweet Pea went after the best & most dangerous opponents all the time. Roy seemed scared earning the Nickname RELUCTANT ROY. Whitaker would've fought Hopkins again and Michalcheswki in Germany & Jirov. Pernell had the Guts, MeanStreak (like James Toney) and the proper skill to go with the talent Awesome.
I can't think of another great fighter that was ever treated as poorly by the sport. How he could have been robbed so blatantly on so many occasions is understandable given boxing, but thoroughly inexcusable.
Your right it is inexcusable. Whitaker wasn't as Handsome Ali or as cute as Sugar Ray. He didn't hit like Tyson. He simply was the Greatest Boxer on the Planet for a Decade Schooling everybody he fought (CHAVEZ INCLUDED!) This is why Floyd Mayweather JR is making a spectacle of himself he doesn't want to be like Whitaker in terms lack fame and recognition he wants be Famous even if it's as a Villain. It make little cents but it makes a whole allota DOLLAR$ too bad.
The scientist gets the job done again. Anthony Jones has a KO win over julian jackson and he has beat a few other decent fighters. Pernell is better than benny leonard and I stand by my views.
Ditto! The RODNEY DANGERFIELD of All-time Greats gets absolutely NO RESPECT! Utterly Fearless and Confident Sweetpea ducked nobody and fought everybody Supernatural Talent Superb Skill and an Iron will. Whitaker did not need 100+ wins to be one of the Real Pound for Pound All-time Greats. He did it in less than 50.
no a great performance by Pea
