Ok, I didn't do any of the sidequests when I first ran through DP. And I fought all 3 crawling shadows with the machine gun and the pistol. That took me about half an hour.

Just one thing about the "blue" apple:

In Japanese, the words for "blue" and "green" are both "青" (ao/i), so its sometimes hard to translate.. maybe the translator had a dumb moment there. ;)

The Japanese language normally doesn't distinguish between the words for "blue" and "green", so that's probably why they described the apple as blue.

If Zack is right about the red seed being connected to the murder of young women, then the only people left in town that have names that could be a victim to the raincoat killer are the girl in the hospital and possibly Emily or I guess one of the "vegetables". I'm not sure what constitutes as young to York since I figured Diane was at least in her late twenties, so maybe the wife of the owner of the milk barn (even though she's at least in her 30) could also be a potential future victim.
